okay so i've watched Aftersun a couple more times after making this video and... I think it might be my new #1. I just can't stop thinking about it (and crying all over again when i do). My number #1 from this video is still great and I love it for other reasons but yeah, Aftersun, wow. 💜
I wait every year for movie focused channels to make this list and I'm happy yours is here Monika ☺️ Need to check a lot of the movies you mentioned, most I had my eye on but didn't had the time to watch them yet 🥲 Very excited for aftersun! 💕
Hope you enioy it! 💗 i feel like sooo many movies came out these past few months i haven’t had time to catch up either 🥲
I love your list!! Thank you, it’s exactly what I’m looking for. Can’t wait to see your recommendations for 2023 :)
Great video! Gonna be adding some (most) movies to my TBW. Thank you Monika!
Yay hope u enjoy them!
Great list ! My favourite is Decision to leave from 2022, but EEAAO was also phenomenal, still a few I need to check out for sure ❤️
I know I can always count on monika’s recommendations! Honestly the best
🥺💜
For me, nothing has even come close to Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Batman this year. ❤️
It’s incredible
Saamee
everything all at once was boring, Batman is good but Top Gun is masterpiece
where can I watch it? what site
My top three would be:
1. Close
2. Aftersun
3. Marcel The Shell With Shoes On
I guess I really liked crying this year lol
you all year: 🤧😭
I have watched quite a few of your videos and I am very happy to have found someone who has a similar taste in movies as me, I know whatever you recommend I will definitely enjoy!! I agree on everything except #1, the film just didn't impact me much for some reason, can't really explain... It was good for sure but it wasn't engraved into my mind, anyone else feel this way?
I LOVE THIS LIST WOW!! I need to watch your #1
You will love it!💜
tbh this year I haven’t watched many movies but among my favorites are:
Elvis, Puss in Boots, and Black Panther (was slow at first but the ending was AMAZING)
Definitely adding Decision to Leave to my watch list!
hope you enjoy it!
I am right there with you and Bones and All. It's been a long time since I have felt the way I did after I finished watching it in the cinema. And it's a movie, that absolutely deserves to be seen on a big screen, it's so gorgeous.
I also know, it won't be many people's cup of tea. The same way Call Me By Your Name wasn't. Luca's style is very much European art cinema and that's not something majority of people watch because it's "too slow" for them. Their loss:p
If Bones and All did not exist, then my movie of the year would probably be The Banshees of Inisherin.
agree 100% i know it may not be some people's cup of tea but i found it SO beautiful
Your choices are as interesting as I expected. 👍
Not a whole lot showed up in theaters in my city, that at least overlapped with my desire to go see it AND the timing of having the money to go see it. In terms of a full 5-star rating for what I saw, only two make the cut: "The Northman" (Robert Eggers continuing to prove himself a total beast of a filmmaker) and "Nope" (Jordan Peele's third film is his greatest, not even a contest). Honorable mentions go to "Death on the Nile", "The Batman", "X", "One Piece Red" and "Babylon". My absolute frustration is that "Everything Everywhere All to Once" never showed up here ... and the hype that now surrounds it makes it impossible to go into it as blind as I intended.
Oh yes the northman was great!
Was waiting for this video
💜💜💜
Your video comes right when I was wondering what to watch
perfect😁
I totally agree with this list, Inu oh is for me too, one of the best movies of this year, same for the menu or decision to leave. Also, I just saw Boy from heaven and I recommend it to everyone, it is so good
I gotta watch it!
Very interesting list!
My favorite movies of the year:
1. Everything Everywhere All at Once
2. Marcel the Shell With Shoes On
3. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
4. Prey
5. Matilda the Musical
6. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio
7. Turning Red
8. The Fabelmans
9. The Northman
These aren't necessarily the "best" from an objective standpoint, but rather the movies I enjoyed most. I haven't seen a number of the films you mentioned; since I enjoy interesting and complex female leads, I suspect that "Tar" and "Aftersun" would especially hit my sweet spot. (2022 has been a better than average year for women in film.)
matilda the musical was amazing!!
I’ve never seen after sun but I just started crying while you described it haha
oh buckle up! it's a sad one
I’m rooting for Everything Everywhere all at once at the Oscars!
My favorite movie of 2022!
My favorite movies this year that I’ve watched are Everything Everywhere all at Once, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, The Menu, Puss in Boots, and Nope
I really need to give some of your recommendations a watch!
those are all great!
I signed up for mubi with your link. I want to watch Decision to Leave. I loved Old Boy and the Handmaiden.
Amazing! They have so many good film selections, hope you enjoy!
Maybe it's RUclips not pushing your videos, maybe it's me not being observant, but I literally thought you had taken a three month break! I guess I'm turning on all notifications.
Omg noo 🥲 but to be fair i haven’t uploaded that many videos lately. But that will change this year for sure!
awesome video 😊
Finally someone else who has seen Decision To Leave! I loved it, I might even love it more than Parasite!
Oh wow more than parasite! Both are incredible
Top 5:
1. Close
2. Aftersun
3. Tar
4. Everything Everywhere All at Once
5. Bones & All
Bones and all definately swooped me away this year
I didn’t expect it but it took me by surprise
dude i avoided #2 for soo long cause i thought i was being ad targeted. but yea you nailed the review and i had the same reaction to her name hahah
I loved the video! ♡ The School for Good and Evil is my favorite movie from 2022!!!
you should add the title on the video as you talk about it so we always see the title name when you are describing it
Can anyone tell me where to watch "Inu-oh"?
Im here to say I am now subscribing and following you because you specificly know how to give movie suggestions and how to narrate them. (y)
I recommend a french film called forever young it's not very famous but it was incredible, for sûre my favourite of the year with bones and all!
i'll check it out!
I love watching top 10 lists and I gotta say yours is a lot more original than most, no superhero movies, no blockbusters, no Top Gun maverick or Avatar 2. I haven't seen any of these movies and I won't for a very long time still but I like the unique taste.
A😮99😮😮9
❤❤❤pqq 10:26
You should see Cha Cha Real Smooth, one of my faves this year.
Oh i loved it!
Everything everywhere all at once made me cry too LOL
It’s so emotional 🥲🪨
It's so weird how the algorithms work cause I was trying to find a movie to watch.
perfect!
I know it came out last year but I saw it in January of 2022 so ''Drive My Car'' was my movie of the year
I loved drive my car last year 💜
I am so happy someone who isnt a movie bro made a video like this
Monika, I have a question. Have you seen Jujutsu Kaisen 0? Because that has been a personal favorite of mines. Nice movie picks btw…
No i haven’t!
Okay. That’s alright. I would recommend it though.
I need to put all these on my watch list. These movies all seem so unique. I've watched Nope and Bones and All, really liked them both.
I haven't watched many movies this year (and that came out this year). I really like Bullet Train and Orphan: First Kill.
Oh i haven’t watched bullet train yet! Is it good?
@@cinemoni Yes, I thought it was really funny. It's basically an action comedy.
"Everything Everywhere All At Once" made no fcking sense but at the same time- it made sense.
Thank you Monika for all these Awsome recommendations 📽️
and I hope you will have an Awsome 2023

Depends where you are based I am currently back in Croatia and there is no decision to leave here on mubi but I was able to watch it in the UK
Are going to be in Oklahoma?
You look like Twice's Momo 👀
Great list!! I still need to watch The Menu. I’ve also been hearing great things about the new Puss in Boots. Apparently it’s up there with Into the Spider-Verse.

10. Nope
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Girl Picture, Moonage Daydream, Thirteen Lives, Till, The Batman, Pearl, Glass Onion, Top Gun: Maverick
Wait really? I’m gonna have to watch the new puss in boots then!
I feel absolutely insane, how did people like bones and all ?! I hated it so so so much. It wasn't even funny bad, it was baaad baaad
Yes I didn’t like it either! I nearly walked out of the cinema bc it was so gross & disturbing, kind of in a tasteless way.
I get your point but the thing that makes the movie so fucking good is the romance and the acting, they're relationship is so fragile and real and the struggles Taylor Russell's character is going through. The cinematography is also genius since it makes you feel close to them and the also improves that feeling of weirdness, sure the movie is discussing but isn't the thought of cannibalism and the act of doing it also? the director and the actors and all the team involved just worked together to make the movie that way
@@guilhermeneves8116 yes the romance was really great, the only redeeming feature for me personally.
@@charliethecinefile I just hate the ending, I hate open endings but yeah it's not a movie for everyone and everyone is entitled to have a opinion so yeah
Aftersun, Nope, and Decision to Leave no doubt.
Omg I'm early
rise and shineee☀️
No TOP GUN no Party
If your looking for a horrifying experience within a movie,
Here are my recommendations for you :
- smile
- the platform
- dont turn off the light
Smile:
Smile is a creepy unsettling based movie,
It is made to upset or make the audience feel uncomfortable.
A woman, living an amazing life feels incomplete due to past parental issues so she, as a therapist, encounters a patient that claims the existence of some evil creepy entity that is always smiling and following her.
The therapist ignores her claims and tries to calm the patient but little did she know, shes inherited the illness or curse
My Favorites of 2022 are:
1. Everything, Everywhere all at once
2. Puss in Boots 2
3. Nope
4. The batman
5. Pinocchio( Guillermo del Toro)
6. Turning Red
7. Us
8. American Psycho
9. Shazam
10. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
11. Smile

Triangle of Sadness
The Northman
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

Barbarian
Vengeance
The Black Phone
Honorable mentions:
Tár
Pearl

5 Worst of 2022:
Orphan: First Kill
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Ambulance
Elvis
Everything Everywhere All At Once (hot take I know)
great list!! and omg it is a hot take yes lol
@@cinemoni I actually just rewatched EEAAO and oh my god, what the hell was I thinking. I absolutely loved it on a rewatch. I must have been in a bad mood the first time lol. The drama between Michelle Yeoh and her daughter resonated with me so much after getting over some of the humor that I initially disliked on the first viewing
#1 banshees of inisherin
Watching it tonight 🙌🏼
@@cinemoni great stuff, you should watch an Cailin ciuin (the quiet girl) as well if it’s out in the us yet
Does anybody know if there is SA in any of the movies? I want to avoid watching that. Thanks
EEAAO was so chaotic and messy i had to turn it off
i decided to watch everything everywhere all at once because people around me wouldn't stop gushing about it, and tbh..... no matter how hard i try to like it, i just don't. i was sooo disappointed with the whole messaging of the movie. it was all over the place and not in way that's messy but makes sense but in a the-studio-had-a-lot-of-money-and-no-direction way. idk i just didn't enjoy it. the asian stereotypes being mentioned every 5 seconds did not sit right with me, there were too many plot holes that could be justified with "it's up to your interpretation" like i loved the premise and the uniqueness of the universe presented but just didn't understand what was so great about it. would love to know other people's opinion on it!
Wow I haven’t seen any of these movies😢 NOPE is definitely on my radar because I love Keke Palmer. My fave 2022 movies were -
1. The Adam Project,
2. Purple Hearts,
3. Anatomy of a scandal,
4. The gray man
5. Wednesday
6. Firefly lane S1
7. Anikulapo
omg i haven't seen almost all of yours lol!
NO HATE but bones and all so discussing made me feel really uncomfortable but on the other hand I liked the Cinematography, their relationship, acting and the fact that timothee was the producer but other than that nah just no .....
the batman was snubbed
You're the first person to not include top gun Maverick on his/her list. You should definitely check it out if you haven't seen it.
damn man... she a 10
Timeline provide.
first!
🤩
Tar triangle
Decision to leave
Are you trying to copy Karsten?
How so?
@@cinemoni just very similar in style. And mubi sponsoring etc
@@milesburton3109 mubi contacted me for sponsoring and i love them so of course i agreed. there’s so many film youtubers and they all do videos about their top movies of the year (i’ve been doing these since like 2017 too) so yeah idk how i would be copying anyone here 😅 karsten does voice over as well and i don’t so i don’t see the similar styles
You were kind of spoiling the twists of the movies 😕
@@cupofkeyshae the triangle of sadness was definitely spoiled for me lol
I tried to say only what was in the trailers/synopsis but i’ll try to do a better job for the next video 😅
@@cinemoni it was a good video though 👍
I got so irritated when i watched decision to leave... everyone r sayingbits good.
But i didn't find the ending satisfying 🥲
the ending definitely hurts
why no one is talking about the puss in boots movie 🥲 it effected my life sm I love it and keep thinking about it
i loved it so much!
I agree! The movie is simply amazing, in terms of the script, the animation, the fight scenes and how it perfectly touches on raw subjects like anxiety attacks (something I've experienced) and death.
Edit: It was not long ago that I saw it, and it has helped me a lot because I recently had to make a difficult decision in my life and the movie not only managed to destress me for a moment, but also managed to reconsider aspects due to its message. 🐱💕
