    8:00 It's not unlucky. It's bad QA/QC. You are not a high volume company, you don't sell ten's of thousands of units a week. It's not that hard to check and make sure everything is properly seated and connected before shipping.

      Saying it’s unlucky, only DIY consumers would care about cables, how he wouldn’t of even noticed the power button light issue himself….. just constantly making excuses and being defensive. I liked Asmongolds reaction better, he acknowledged the criticisms adamantly and was very humble. Didn’t spend a single second excusing or defending it. You can always judge someone’s maturity levels by how they handle criticism.

    the thing is, the cables are a part of the PSU when you buy it. So, if we are paying for the parts (along with your building prices and other markups), we should be receiving all of them. We get to decide what we want to do with those parts. The SI should not be making that decision on our behalf. Also, there comes another question of cable compatibility. Plugging in the wrong cable in the PSU, even one that looks identical to the original cable, can sometimes cause the whole PSU to short, or even worse, cause a power surge to the actual PC components bricking them forever, which is a very costly thing to just forgive. Please include the cables, and let the customer figure out what to do with them.

    • @boburanus69
      @boburanus69 2 года назад +1

      Gonna go ahead and recommend you build your own PC if you want to get the most value for your money. In this case, getting all the stuff you pay for isn't gonna be straightforward. They might be getting retail boxes for PSUs or they may not be. They might be ordering only the specific cables they need with the extras not even being provided, like they would to a consumer buying a retail packaged PSU.
      One can't always assume things function the same for everyone. If I was an SI I'd be making a deal with PSU vendor to bring that cost as low as possible, which would include not having them send extra cables (saves them on production for me, since batch-style is likely how things will be done anyway). I could be wrong, they could be getting them off the shelf at Best Buy, but if they are running a business trying to sell prebuilt computers, I doubt it.

    • @rybee3

      @@boburanus69 cope i paid for the fucking cables give me the cables. for 3500 dollars why are they skimping out on a 10c part(this cheap because its in bulk) makes you wonder what else they are skimping out on..

    • @smososoms
      @smososoms 2 года назад +8

      @@boburanus69 See, the thing is, whenever and SI orders a PC component(s), they get the same component(s) that as the retail model, there are no separate "packaging" for SI. This is because of the point I already made in my comment above. CABLES are MATCHED to the PSU. If you wanted to have external cables, sure, you can do them, but that takes a lot more effort on the end user's side to make sure of the compatibility, effort which could have been EASILY saved had the SI included the cables. If the end user already knows about such compatibilities, they will not go to an SI to buy a pre-built PC. The cables come in the box, regardless of whether you are a normal individual ordering the parts, or having an SI do it on your behalf (including the rest of the build).

    • @boburanus69
      @boburanus69 2 года назад +1

      Let's assume for a moment they really do build every PC from retail boxed parts. This means they aren't getting as good a deal on parts. This means they are going to be less profitable.
      Any time you want to have a conversation about what a company does or how process works, you need to switch your brain to think in terms of 'scale.'
      What you're saying would make sense if they only built one PC. But they are building PCs in quantity for resale... for profit. It makes more sense not to order extra packaging/accessories in the first place. Those things cost money, and at scale, can be profits down the drain for what amounts to: ewaste.
      All PC manufacturers and SI have a mission to be profitable. That only happens if they aren't doing this the way an end user would do it themselves. Thinking about it from a retail perspective is entirely the wrong way. I promise you they would never ever pay retail pricing, and would do whatever it takes to avoid that (including not getting extra cables with your PSU).
      If I'm wrong, these guys won't last long. Unless no one is getting paid to build these, they have already eaten their margins by the time the PC is built.

    • @smososoms
      @smososoms 2 года назад +8

      @@boburanus69 so, basically, Puget Systems, Origin PC, iBuyPower, MainGear, etc should have all gone bankrupt according to what you are saying. They never skimp on such a small detail. Even Linus was confused as to why they would keep the cables for themselves.
      As for the retail prices, I'm pretty sure the SI will rarely pay the retail price of the unit. They buy in bulk, so naturally, they should be getting a discounted price. (I am not sure if this is true, feel free to enlighten me).
      As for the inclusion of cables, they are a part of PSU. They will be included in the box, no matter who is buying them. What are the SI going to do with collecting all the "unused" cables that come included with the PSU? (even Linus said this last sentence)

      Nah this is pretty rough when the company is mostly made up of people with experience in the field via Artesian. The kinds of people who buy pre-built computers aren't going to be able to correct these issues nearly as easily as someone who has built many themselves. You spend 3500 on a computer and it arrives with the cables not plugged in and some plugged in wrong (especially the power led cables which can be very difficult to walk a layman through correcting), they are going to have a heart attack.

  • @ImJustKo
    @ImJustKo Год назад

    Let's look at the problem of extra cables.
    When buying a complete team you are receiving new components, which you paid for, and which when buying them individually come in some cases with cables, extra accessories.
    Now when you receive the equipment you realize (as linus said), that there should be extra cables that come with that particular component.
    It is not the same to pay 60 dollars (even more, depending on the seller), and receive the source with all its cables, than to pay 60 dollars (even more, depending on the seller) and receive a power source with only 3 of 8 cables.
    Now what do you do to those extra cables? Do you reuse them? And if so, then they are not brand new components.
    It is my opinion; Also some of the twitch chat said the same.

  • @kenrosenberg6778

    That food critic analogy isn't it chief (8:00). it's so easy to secure a tab onto a pin for a mobo. Once the pins are latched it's going to stay in. a better comparison could be you order something off the menu @ a restaurant but the chef decided not to incorporate an important ingredient that's ALWAYS there so it tastes bad. Point is, if the pins aren't in correctly then the power hungry CPU won't boot the computer causing the customer problems straight out of the box.

  • @TheEthiopian1987
    @TheEthiopian1987 Год назад

    I suggest having a quality control team, their job would be to inspect the PC prior to shipping.
    As for the extra modular cables, as much as you may hate extra cables as a consumer, it is better than the company having over 1000 cables just laying about.
    For setting up windows, I suggest adding the EULA to the terms and conditions for buying the PC. Also add the COA to the PC, just put it in the accessory box or put it inside the back panel.
    Edit: I did forget to mention that the Streamers being a part of the company, they are going to have customers jump in because of the fans of each streamer.
    And while the COO runs things, you streamers are literally the voice of the company.
    As for the price comparison, being within a couple hundred dollars of a custom PC builder, you guys actually are worth the money to those who don't know/want to build their own computer.

    So basically restricting an upgrade path for 0 reason is because the person buying a prebuilt doesn't know shit is what you're saying.
    They SHOULD go to the costumer, it provides an UPGRADE PATH which minimizes EWASTE..
    Just because the majority of your customers aren't tech savvy doesn't mean that they cant have someone help them upgrade their system. What are you even going to be doing with the rest of the modular cables anyway? The PSU comes with a full set of them.

If you own a company, own it. Dont pass responsibility on to someone else to know the things you should not only know but be a part in creating. Yes, this will mean you will have to give up game time for work time. And its not one bad dish. The chance that a critic and a bad product come together is so slim, that you cant afford to look at it as "one bad dish". This should sound an alarm to the building team to have a pass / fail program in place.

    just a few points.
    1. people buying these pre builts may be because they like the srteamers. but also because they may not be savy enough to understand to check power connectors , and may think their pc is broken. that's a minor thing.
    2. the cables being missing is not cool as it limits exandability, and technically the buyer owns the cables. yet another minor thing.
    3. and this is the one i don't think you get, he is not saying because streamers own it it will fail, hes saying that because your name is on the company if the company fails, it may backfire on the streamer, essentially hurting the bottom line.
    for me tho there is just a few last details that i would like to know, 1 is there choice in aio, if no then i would hope you see that as a change in the future, and also is there an option to change that side plate for fans. i mean i get it some people like the branding, but i would just be wanting the pc. you know with maybe a corsair h110 or a krazen z. maybe some corsair rgb fans on the plate with starforge colors.

    Everyone talking about the PSU cables, yes absolutely they need to be in the package, BUT the power connectors for the Motherboard is a biiig problem. Who ever assembles the PC, make sure to plug in the cable, this can and will burn your PC if not plugged all the way in. It can create an Arc, which will kill the PC. Also add the fans on the back, it looks stupid and scammy to be empty for this price point.

    In regards to those PSU cables, they are matched to the brand+model of the PSU. They may seem modular but even within the same manufacturer they may not be truly compatible because there is no standard on the PSU side of the house. Just because the cables fit, it does not necessarily mean they are wired the same way. If you use the wrong cables, you could potentially be swapping pins and sending power to ground or vice versa and before you know it, your graphics card or whatever device you have connected to could be fried/bricked or worse. Very dangerous.

    Linus did a good job reviewing Starforge!!!

  • @fastfireguy1234

    Yeah you keeping the cables is sort of stealing from the customer. Doesn’t matter if you as a business are assuming oh well if they know what those are they will build the system. That’s not entirely true. There are times where it is cheaper especially during GPU shortages to buy from an assembler than buying parts separately as we see during new GPU launches and during COVID. there is no excuse to not send the customer cables they paid for in a power supply especially in a system that’s $3500 like Linus is reviewing. That’s quite scummy of starforge to do.
    Also the banning critics is a perfect way to alienate a customer base of a new business that may have ligit concerns or critics of the way you do things especially since your just starting out.

    Compared to meta pcs they are way better. Meta has 3050's in their $1500 computers. Starforge has 3070's in their cheaper $1200 computers. So they are already better than many pc building companies as far as price goes.

    The unused cables SHOULD be put in the accessory box, any future add on will need it, especially if the user wants to add higher end RGB, which is likely in a build like this, it's showy and a bit understated, AND your gonna need sata/molex cables for sure.....and t custom cables are EXPENSIVE, and you cant just use any cables......you HAVE to have cables meant for your specific PSU make and model......you can find many cables that fit the plugs, but bad things WILL happen playing mix and match......I have NEVER seen a SI using off the shelf components, NOT include the unused cables, and I've been building, configuring and repairing computers for going on 35 years

    nevermind that CPUs, GPUs, RAM, hard drives, motherboards, etc always have a 3 year warranty minimum to RMA them but obviously the 2 year warranty is because they hold parts on shelves for months lowering their ability to RMA within the 3 year period themselves thus 2 year warranty. Starforge should partner with affirm or something to offer an extended warranty just so people 2-3 years on from buying can't say shit if they opted not to have the extended.

    • @paulmitchell2005
      @paulmitchell2005 2 года назад

      But it's a system warrantee, not just on the individual parts. So, if you don't get video out, is it a faulty PCI slot on the motherboard? a video card problem? power supply cable? the processor? You only need to work with the SI, not the individual component vendors to get things sorted..

    • @SKRUBL0RD
      @SKRUBL0RD 2 года назад +2

      @@paulmitchell2005 yea i didn't go into that depth but that's obviously a nice part about it total system protection and not having to figure it out yourself but the point remains that they should at least have some kind of extended warranty because fully tested parts are not likely to fail within 2 years but are in 3-5 and beyond.

    • @1WithTheDark
      @1WithTheDark 2 года назад

      @@SKRUBL0RD 3-5 years the manufacture warranty is gone and there's a reason for that, they don't want to be giving away a bunch of GPUS. Also ever try and RMA a gpu threw most venders lol good luck at even getting another card. 2 years any issue send your computer in and they'll look at it or over the phone support is decent. No company can offer warranty beyond 3-5 unless they want to take risk on their own profits of replacing components that even the venders wouldn't warranty.

    Linus is always going to be skeptical just because building your own PC is always significantly cheaper. But by the end of his review, it was actually glowingly positive. I think he was completely fair, and he basically said that it's one of the best pre-built PC you can get at the price range (especially when factoring in the custom elements + the warranty + if you are a fan of the streamers).
    Basically, pre-built computers will always be dinged for their pricing. Just is what it is. But the reality is, most mainstream consumers are not going to learn how to build a PC, or won't put the time in to do it. So it's not a bad option. Considering how many pre-built stuff gets destroyed by Linus (rightfully so), I think OTK should be proud.
