      Have to agree. Not the locations we watch for, your personality and advice is key. I learned so much from you over the years raising points I hadn't thought of, resulting in the additional jobs list 😁

    Good luck and health for your mom ❤. Would love to see you sail your local area and projects! Love hearing about the 6 used joker valves. Yes, I like saving some old or used stuff but used Joker valves? There’s no use for them! The diesel bug, very scary! We used a Baja filter when filling up the diesel tanks in Mexico. Their fuel in Mexico was dirty and buggy- lol.
    Don’t stop taping please!

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  7 месяцев назад +1

      The used joker valves were the "highlight" 😄😄😄 of our discoveries. Luckily UK diesel is of good quality but some skippers let the stuff decay into jelly. We never thought to look.
      Thanks for the kind wishes, we do appreciate them 👍

    My elderly relatives all have Captains orders not to get ill during the sailing season, but life is like the weather.. unpredictable!
    Found your video very relevant as completing the purchase of my Westerly Storm OOD in 4 weeks and almost immediately heading up to Anglesey. I will be away later in the summer for a couple of months up to Orkney so keep in touch if you want to borrow my mooring again. 👍

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  7 месяцев назад

      Our relatives had the "do not get ill" order as well and obeyed it for many years but it seems that they can no longer do so. Such is life. We will see how our "support systems" work out but I think it is unlikely we will see the Menai this year, but thank you so much for the offer and we hope to take you up on it in later years. If you come up this year, we would love to see the new boat.

    To get to know your electric wireing- make a circuit diagram and mark switches, fuses, relays etc. same goes for the navigation system. By the way, remember you two from the diesel pontoon at Kerrera marina some years ago, we were there with our Bavarian 38 Ocean (Norwegians) We gave one of you a short tour of our boat. Hi there! Great to hear from you and I hope all is going well. It has been a while since we were last in Kerrara. I think that, these days, we have our electrical system under control and we understand it a lot better than we did back when we got the boat. There are a few connectors that I intend to replace this summer as they are getting brittle with age but at least we now have a much better knowledge of what we are doing. Thanks for getting in touch again 👍

    Thanks for the video... When I started out, I had always thought diesel bug was for those people living in hot countries until my engine stopped going through narrows in the kyles of Bute! lol... Being singlehanded, I got quite paranoid afterwards and built a twin filter system so that I could quickly switch to a clean filter with a pull of a lever! 😀... Also, after 7 years I still have a switch which I don't quite know what it does! One day, I will have the courage to push it! lol

    I feel your pain. Our first boat Ava Grace had a survey, waste of time and money, all the critical issues missed. Same as you main issues were wiring, fuel, systems not set up right. Also feel your pain Bev for your mom. We went through the same with Janet's mother, then Janet was diagnosed with Cancer, life just gets in the way. That's why when you have the chance you have to get on and live life. We both wish you well.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  7 месяцев назад +2

      I would not say our survey was a waste of time - the list of "things that need attention" proved very useful. However we were naive in what we expected the surveyor to find. 😄 Thanks for the good wishes and we hope that Janet is doing well (we know that not everything makes it to YT)

    • @MyAvaGrace
      @MyAvaGrace 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@SailingYachtSaltyLass Janet's doing good. There were good days and bad ones. Mostly good now. We find when an illness strikes her it takes longer to throw it off these days. That may be the after effects of the radiation.
      I wasn't happy with any of my surveys. I found more issues than the surveyors. I keep trying different ones, one day one will turn up something I didn't know about.

    Family always comes first.
    Great video, I crewed on many different boats and you can get a quick assessment of it by looking at the wiring.
    Even in the high end boats like Oysters you find some strange placement of electrical stuff although production boats are even worse, like junction boxes that can't be reached.
    I'm a electrician in the entertainment industry so my OCD is very high when it comes to wires 'n stuff.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  7 месяцев назад +1

      The factory installed stuff is good but some of the add-ons....

    • @dutchglobetrotter4513
      @dutchglobetrotter4513 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@SailingYachtSaltyLass Don't get me started on add-ons, I helped out a friend on his boat, the forward shower sump pump stopped working. For some reason a previous owner placed a circuit breaker somewhere halfway the wires in a cupboard that had trip[ped. Took us 2 days. to find the problem.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  7 месяцев назад +2

      Just like our anchor trip. Who hides an anchor trip under the chart table? Just to complete the problem, it is dark under the chart table so they installed a black plate with a black switch 😃

  • @jimmyjohnstone5878
    @jimmyjohnstone5878 7 месяцев назад +2

    Why did you take the boat out before you had sussed out the main systems?
    Was there some pressing reason to head out so soon ?
    A friend is a private pilot and he is shocked at the (low) quality level of wiring and electrics on many sailing yachts he has been on. Many owners seem happy to bodge fixes with all sorts of crap, and hope for the best.

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  7 месяцев назад +2

      We took it out because we were trusting, optimistic, excited and believed we could cope.
      We agree about the wiring and such. These days we are far more particular and we have upgraded almost every systm on the boat to far higher standards

    • @SailingYachtSaltyLass
      @SailingYachtSaltyLass  7 месяцев назад +1

      There's a reverse polarity switch?? 😮
      Having said that Bavaria wired one AC socket with the live and neutral reversed. It is, of course, the most difficult one to fix ...

    • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@SailingYachtSaltyLass There is a reverse polarity lamp that goes red if the supply has the live and neutral crossed. We discovered it on our 2003 B32 by accident. Same control panels as you have. There is a big clue...... Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
