1:47 Solanum xanti. This isn't on the plant lists done for this section, but I guess it should be. The one that is listed is Solanum parishii, but that has very narrow lance-shaped leaves. The spinach-like leaves give this one away. • 3:27 Bush Poppy (Dendromecon rigida). They're along the PCT all the way to Mount Shasta. • 3:32 Big Berry Manzanita (Arctostaphylos glauca), common in the Peninsular, Transverse, and Southern Coast mountain ranges. • 6:05 California Bluebells (Phacelia minor). But yeah... they're purple. • 6:14 California Chia (Salvia columbariae), an annual sage. • Ground Pink (Linanthus dianthiflorus). • 7:28 Purple Owl's Clover (Castilleja exserta ssp. exserta). • 12:35 Chaparral Yucca (Hesperoyucca whipplei). • 14:47 Brown Spined Prickly Pear (Opuntia phaeacantha). • 14:51 This is another section of the older California Riding and Hiking Trail. It joins the PCT on the left then heads north along the trail past the spring. It goes straight north to the Paradise Valley Cafe. • 15:06 That's Red Shanks behind you (Adenostoma sparsifolium), the only close relative of the ubiquitous Chamise. This section is characterized as "Red Shanks chaparral" habitat. • 16:00 Pink-bracted Manzanita (Arctostaphylos pringlei ssp drupacea). A beauty. At your camp site also. •
You came charging out of the gate this year and your body isn’t complaining. Funny how it works out. When you’re doing a section hike everything works but attempting a through hike injuries are prevalent. Love your positive attitude. Especially after those sneaky mice got in.
Thank you! There were a combination of things that made this section hike feel better. Although I think did really well physically last year during my thru hike attempt, except for acid reflux from my diet. I now have over 2000 backpacking miles and 6 years under my belt and have learned to pace really well and take more strategic breaks, I had just completed the Lone Star Hiking Trail(152 miles) in April, I have been eating a higher protein diet which has really helped my recovery time, my attitude has changed a lot with each year as I gain confidence and experience, and I am focusing more on the positive things and not focusing on the aches and pains. I still have a bad knee and hip and an array of menopause symptoms, they will always be there and I am learning to work with what I have during this next chapter. It was nice to do the section hike and I learned even more in just these two weeks. I want to hike the rest of my life for as long as I can and am always evolving with each new adventure! 🌻🤗
Beautiful, everything is just so beautiful, the views, the wildlife, the flora and let’s not forget about the cows. Super good timing on the weather, a little sad though that you had to spend the night with little mice, I’m sure they appreciated being out of the weather. So, nearing the end of this adventure and on to the next. Love it. Thank you. 🙏🏻🥰
Thank you Anita 💞 Those little boogers…I refused to let the mice ruin my trip so glad I did the work to rid of them. It worked!! I had my truck inspected too and luckily no damage other than chewing on my insulation to nest. Ugh! I do miss the trail already. I’ll be back! ⛰️🌼🌷🐄🌳🐀🐍🦎🐦⬛⛺️🌲
Sure enjoyed this section! Yes the mice/pack rats can do a lot of damage quickly. Here in the high desert of Calif we keep hoods up in garage & lights on in garage. That works for us. Glad you didn’t have wires chewed… that happened to my little Miata in Tucson overnight. Expensive repair 🙃 thanks again for beautiful views of your hikes!
@Jimbo-pm1dp Yes! I hope to make an update video here soon to let you know my plans. I have a busy couple of weeks then should be about to work on that. Enjoy the Summer 🤗🌻

So you’re planning on coming back next year?
I’ll update on my hiking plans after this series. Stay tuned! 😃🤗
How are you shuttling your car around?
We both parked at the Warner Springs Comm. Center. You can call them to get permission. Ghost picked us up there and drove us to Campo.
