Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast 😂😂 that’s pretty good never seen one in person. Definitely gonna have to try that out for sure though. Can you tag me in the video I’m having trouble finding it for some reason.
Jason, thanks for all the videos. When setting up the shoulder straps on a stand, does it matter if the seat is up by my shoulders or down by my tailbone?
Personal preference. I like the seat down so that nothing sticks up above my shoulders for snagging on branches etc. But it's just Personal preference. Also the way I carry my sticks on the stand its best if I run it seat down.
Instead of using the pool noodles, have you ever tried the stick quiver that lone wolf makes for these stands? I don’t see many people using them and I’m just curious as to why. It’s two simple brackets and hold the sticks closer to the stand than anything else while still remaining quiet.
great question. I never used the lw stick quiver but did see it in person at a local store. to me did not look like it would be as stable or as quiet or as durable as my noodles. So I never bothered with it. It might be great. I just was never interested as my noodles work so good.
Would there be a way for me to attach my crossbow on the back of lone wolf stands? Would love a way to pack it in and not have to carry it since I will have stand on my back.
Because its set up with the sticks mounted on it like I do and the stand sits low on my back. Its narrow enough that if my shoulders fit the stand does and there is nothing to hang up. Even wne sticks do get wedged in the pop right out as I dont jave double rung steps and my v brackets are not exposed to snag. Its a pretty streamline set up as far as stands go.
I just leave them at the bottom of the tree have had does and bucks walk by them with in 5 feet and not smell them. Actually the thing they always bring thier nose to first if they walk right up to the tree is my first tree stick and the aider. very rarely do they smell or put their nose to my noodles.
Great video! What do you do with the noodles and bungees when you’re hunting? Do you bring a pack also and put them in there? Or leave them on the ground under you?
I have a question is that easy hanger hook that you can purchase for lone wolf stand to hang it by in place of bat wing or just to hold it temporarily until you get both straps on it? Thanks, just bought all lone wolf stuff trying to find best way to hang it! Thanks!
That video was called how to quiet a tree stand. Those were Berkley sunglass holders. Worked really well. I dont use them anymore as I never had an issue with my boots squeeking on a cable. I wear size 10 and never had a problem. If I were to do it again I would probably just use stealth steips.
I bought the 1" tubing and a piece of Pex pipe that's 5/8ths od (listed as 1/2"). I can just barely get the pipe started in the tubing, should I get the next size smaller?
Have you ever tried gun hunting from a hang on tree stand? I just got a stand and I have an archery hunt and a gun one this season. Archery hunting from the stand seems to be a walk in the park but Im having trouble processing how I would hunt with a gun out of the stand and still be accurate. Is my only option shooting freehanded? I say that because it seems impossible to have shooting sticks up there and having them stable and not go through the holes of the stand. I plan on shooting 100-200 yards out and I do not want to take a shot that isn't stable and possibly wounding the animal. If you have any tips or advice I would greatly appreciate it!!
Most gun hunters use stands with a shooting rail or buy a shooting rail that attaches to the stand ot tree. This will help stabilize you. You can also close off one of the holes in the tree stand platform to put a mono pod on. There are probably other ideas out there but I have never hunted deer or any big game with a gun yet. So I'm just expressing what I see alot of others do.
The ropes are lighter in weight and you can make them longer to fit around bigger trees with out having to add extensions. I personally have never done a rope mod and I still use the buckle straps. For me the speed is everything and the ropes take longer to use. But I know a few people that love using the ropes instead. Its worth testing and seeing what you like best.
Have a saddle! It's great but I dont like hunting out of them. Just personal preference but I'd rather carry the extra couple pounds and be in a stand. But no denying a saddle is the lightest set yp.
@@SamkoTradBow I've wanted to try saddle hunting but I cant possibly afford the cost to get started. Was it worth it considering you still prefer normal stands?
@@reecephillips5463 I have never bought a saddle. My best friend john is the owner of tactisaddle.com so he just makes me one when I need one. Great video ,I’ve used some of your tips on customizing my LW stands and sticks . Just curious as to what you think of the step on the stick being so small . They are kind of hard to see in the dark too . I do use a head lamp when climbing but those steps are small !
And they are thin and black making them very hard to see in the dark. A good trick is to put reflective fishing lure tape around the ends of the steps so your head lamp will light them up. You can also paint glow in the dark or white paint on the step. It will wear off the edge but be left in between the treads and light up well.
@@SamkoTradBow , I’m a fellow Michigan hunter! Traverse city, I have used almost every fab your podcast has shown!!! Yes I use 2 packs. In michigan where I'm not packing out deer on my back I use a kuiu venture 2300. And out of state hunts where I'm packing boned out deer and my stand and sticks all in one trip I use a exo mtn k2000. On both packs I put the stand sticks on the packs compression straps. I have 3 or 4 videos that show this set up in full detail if you want to learn more about it. Those vids show both the exo and kuiu rigs with stand and sticks on them.
Good stuff man. Been watching your vids on lone wolf sticks and your setup. Can't wait to get a setup after Christmas for late season! If you get a chance check out of videos we got a couple good hunts from this year in PA and Ohio. Thanks again and God bless!
@@SamkoTradBow Awesome. I'll look it up. Thanks man. I wrapped mine in felt and sewed each end and the middle, but even though it worked to silence any clanks, they only lasted me like half of last season and I had to redo them. Hoping this method is easier and more durable.
The lone wolf climbing sticks, need dual sided standing. You need to be able to put both feet at the same level. You can do that by getting the additional duel step and putting it in the middle step and it makes them 100% nicer.
I have dual steps sticks. They are nice. But the light weight simple folding design on the lone wolf sticks like they are make them my personal favorite. They go thru brush really easy and the single steps still do thier job perfectly. Now if they could make a light weight folding double rung that would be great.
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast do you have these on one of your Lonewolf sets? doublesteps.com/product/doublestep-angled/ Putting these in the middle step, allows you to stand with both feet together while you’re setting the step above it.

Great video as usual. My sticks are set up identical to yours. Other than mine are stealth stripped.Curious why you don’t use stealth strips or something similar on the sticks themselves. PS, got my saddle from John. Haven’t had much time to mess with it yet. But it sure is a quality product.

Nothing wrong with that! You have to be comfortable on stand so you can stay on stand. Honestly I believe the day where I give up stands all together and go mobile on the ground is not too many years away for me.
good viedo. although i always find it comical when guys find the need to say "Im a traditional bowhunter" but hunt with other very modern equipment such as a cast aluminum stand from modern metal and modern machining. very contradictory, but to each their own.

Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast I would love to hear the arguments.
Do you have a video on using the seat in a 90 degree fashion to pack out meat or gear? Thought u mentioned it but I haven't found it, thanks!
I do not. I have never used the seat as a meat shelf but you could. my buddy joe does it all the time. Just uses rope to hold the seat at 90 degrees.
A j-hook through the seat and batwing with a big washer and wingnut is the best way to do that!!!
@@shanerussell5448 great idea. Thanks for sharing that. Will help people that want to pack meat on the stand
Did you use the Slip on YakGrips or the SUP style (Velcro) to cover all your buckles?
Slip on. I have a couple videos on how to set them up
Just curious, Do you leave the swim noodles and black straps on the ground or carry them up the tree with you? For the scent factor.
I leave them right at the base of the tree. never had a problem. did have to yell at a porcupine once to keep him from shewing on the noddles..lol
I have a question is that easy hanger hook that you can purchase for lone wolf stand to hang it by in place of bat wing or just to hold it temporarily until you get both straps on it? Thanks, just bought all lone wolf stuff trying to find best way to hang it! Thanks!
Great question and hopefully someone will chime in that has used that easy hanger. I have never used it so I can not help there.
In another video. You had a cotton sleeve that went over the cables? What video was that? Or who made those sleeves?
That video was called how to quiet a tree stand. Those were Berkley sunglass holders. Worked really well. I dont use them anymore as I never had an issue with my boots squeeking on a cable. I wear size 10 and never had a problem. If I were to do it again I would probably just use stealth steips.
You ought to try the daisy chain versa straps...worth the investment
will check them out. very happy with the straps and yak grips. but will take a look at the daisy chains.
@@SamkoTradBow it drops the buckles, but unlike rope mods, no knots to tie. Lighter, quieter, and longer for bigger trees.
@@williammocaby sounds great. Will check them out. Got some free time tomorrow and might watch a video or 2 and see. Thanks again
I bought the 1" tubing and a piece of Pex pipe that's 5/8ths od (listed as 1/2"). I can just barely get the pipe started in the tubing, should I get the next size smaller?
I would go a size smaller you have to get the pipe all the way down to the middle of the loop. All you need is something to hold the step open.
@@SamkoTradBow thanks for the advice. I’m going to look into that now
Nice job. One thought, you should camouflage the ends of your pool noodles.
Good idea, thanks!
Hi again jason! Have you ever weighed the whole set up,for me it's loggy stand 14lbs,hawk steps 3 each 9lbs I think, backpack is 20lbs
@rickk4483 I did weight mine before can't remeber. But think my pack with water is 16 pounds, stand 10 and 7.5 for sticks
Good info thanks.
Headed to the hardware store now. What size tubing for the contact points on the stand?
I just wash machine tubing as it was super cheap and I cut it in half. Any tubing will work fine so but the cheapest
Great content!
Thank you
Quick question. What do you do with the shoulder straps when you are in the stand?
They just dangle below your feet
leave them hang on the stand. never had a problem with them being there and dont think I have ever been busted because of them.
Yep that what mine do. I dont stuff them or anything. Just leave them where they are.
I see a lot of people using ropes instead of the buckle straps. What are your thoughts in that?
The ropes are lighter in weight and you can make them longer to fit around bigger trees with out having to add extensions. I personally have never done a rope mod and I still use the buckle straps. For me the speed is everything and the ropes take longer to use. But I know a few people that love using the ropes instead. Its worth testing and seeing what you like best.
You should try a saddle. 12lbs lighter and less bulk with way more efficiency. You’ll never wanna hunt out of a stand again lol
I would call john and talk to him and he can walk you thru the cost and options. Hes a straight up good guy and will answer your questions and steer you in the right direction based on your budget.
What is the real world weight of the Assault ll? I know XOP lists weight without straps, etc. I am looking for a weight on the LW Assault ll, ready to hunt. Straps included
dont know. I dont have a scale that I could use to hang it from to be sure. hopefully someone that has weighed it will chime in. Great Question!
Amazon says 11 pounds, but not sure if that is with the straps?
Stealth strips sells buckle silencers very similar to those. $11-$12 for 5. No cutting or sewing.
Did not know that! I love stealth strips and know alot of people that use them. I will check those out. Would love to support that company. Just personally dont have any need for the actual stealth strips with my set up. But if they have buckle covers I'm all over it. Thanks!
Glad to help! Got some showing up tomorrow hopefully. Good luck this year!
@@trob205 keep me in the loop as to how you like them. The nice thing about the yak grips is they are super tough and last 2 or 3 seasons even with me climbing 50 trees a year. Hope the stealth strips ones are tough and durable.
@@SamkoTradBow but the yak grips sold out! I've been using bicycle inner tubes to silence the buckles. Stole the idea from DIY sportsman, but I like your idea better.
@@samp3087 if yak grips are sold out on amazon (cant believe they would be as there are so many sellers selling them in different colors) you can find them at every sporting goods store.
You mentioned getting a plummer tube or something to put in the 1' tubing so the step stays open??( Aider)
Pex pipe. Its flexible plastic water line for houses. Red or blue. Super cheap at any hardware store
@@SamkoTradBow Thank you..
Do you think the 9 inch bungee will be long enough if your going to do this with a 4 stick set?
I think i ise a 9 inch for my 3 sticks. You will probably need longer
@@SamkoTradBow , I’m a fellow Michigan hunter! Traverse city, I have used almost every fab your podcast has shown!!! Do you know why the assault 2 is out of stock seems everywhere I was going to order off of your affiliate link but unavailable .
They are always out of stock November and December. Usually the only place you can find them this time of year is at lone wolfs site. And They might be out as well as they just ran a huge black Friday sale.
Do you have a segment on painting your stand?
Yep did it about 2 months ago called why I paint my stands. Should be easy to find
Do you have a backpack in your setup? If it's not attached to your stand then how do you do it?
Yes I use 2 packs. In michigan where I'm not packing out deer on my back I use a kuiu venture 2300. And out of state hunts where I'm packing boned out deer and my stand and sticks all in one trip I use a exo mtn k2000. On both packs I put the stand sticks on the packs compression straps. I have 3 or 4 videos that show this set up in full detail if you want to learn more about it. Those vids show both the exo and kuiu rigs with stand and sticks on them.
Awesome Video!
Wheres the link for the yak grip mod?
In the text description below the video
Geees,,,,, OMG........I'm tired just watching this!
Thank GOD for my Old Man Climber........!!!
Glad you have a system that works for you.
Good stuff man. Been watching your vids on lone wolf sticks and your setup. Can't wait to get a setup after Christmas for late season! If you get a chance check out of videos we got a couple good hunts from this year in PA and Ohio. Thanks again and God bless!
Thanks! Will check out the vids this weekend!
do you use one yak grip per buckle, or do you cut them in half?
Cut them in half and sew the end. I have a video on how I cut and sew them on my channel if you search yak grip. Driving so I can't find it right now.
@@SamkoTradBow Awesome. I'll look it up. Thanks man. I wrapped mine in felt and sewed each end and the middle, but even though it worked to silence any clanks, they only lasted me like half of last season and I had to redo them. Hoping this method is easier and more durable.
@@aaronsabin8868 yep tried many things. The yak grip work great and I can get 2-3 seasons out of them and I am hanging the stand 80 plus times a year.
Alot of good mods and I will def be using some of these ideas.thanks man
Your welcome. Glad you found it helpful.
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast do you have these on one of your Lonewolf sets? doublesteps.com/product/doublestep-angled/
Putting these in the middle step, allows you to stand with both feet together while you’re setting the step above it.
Nice video, but how do you strap your sticks back on when coming down?
Not quite sure what you mean as I dont leave the stick on the stand and climb. I did a video about a year ago called how to get your climbing sticks up the tree. That video will probably answer your question and shows how I do it.
@@SamkoTradBow My bad..
@@potshot23 no "bads" ever on this channel. No question is a bad question! Hopefully the other video showed you what you were looking for. If not let me know and I can explain better for ya.
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast what about a video of how you take your stand and sticks down after each hunt. I’d love to see how to do that quietly
@@onpointbackyardbbq6230 I have a couple vids showing how I hang and come down. I dont come down quietly as I'm not coming back to the spot for atleast a month if at all that season.
Have you ever had any problems with running only one strap on your stand?
I have never had a problem. Never had a stand with 2 straps, even back 25 years ago. So when I started using lonewolf 15 years ago just figured I would not need a second strap and never felt I did or do. Bit again I use a lineman belt and am connected to the tree every second
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast I gotcha so you use the top strap right?
@@jakegilly6438 yep I only use the top strap.
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast id like to do that cause it’s one less strap to worry about
@@jakegilly6438 that's why I do it. Simple and fast. But test it out and make sure you are comfortable and always wear harness and lineman belt
Great video as usual. My sticks are set up identical to yours. Other than mine are stealth stripped.Curious why you don’t use stealth strips or something similar on the sticks themselves. PS, got my saddle from John. Haven’t had much time to mess with it yet. But it sure is a quality product.
Stealth strips are an amazing product. But since my sticks never touch each other with my set up I dont need them. Maybe one day I will get some to try. But in my situation they are not a must have. You will really like that saddle! Feedback I'm getting on it is awesome!
Did you paint your pool noodles?
nope, I put ducktape on them to prevent the foam ripping on branches etc. A protection layer sort of.
Don’t apologize for your attention to detail. I use the millennium stand instead of the Lonewolf way more comfortable.
I think I’m going to use a couple of your mods thanks!
Thanks!
Instead of using those fish tubes and electric tape you can use flex seal
Interesting. Wonder how durable it would be to the abuse. Greatly appreciate the idea and suggestion. Might try that next season and see how it works. Been very happy with the tubing and tape. But always open to suggestions.
I just can’t use the lone wolf sticks because of the single steps per side
Look at xop or dan infault beast sticks. They are double rung.
Cool! But, I hate Amazon... Also, check out XOP treestands. Pretty much the same as lonewolf, but a little cheaper. I use the XOP climber.
Xop makes a good stand.
Hi,Jason tried to contact you on your site message not working?l have a chance to get LWCG .5 stand for 400 on sail with gift card what your opinion on this stand Thanks
Sorry about the email. Will look into it. This internet crap is analysis updating and causing me trouble!
I jave never seen or used a lwcg stand so I dont have any advise there. I know that its pretty small in size and light weight. But without ever using it I dont know much.
Also my email is jason at tbwpodcast.com if you need to email me.
As much as I hated it had to get away from lone wolf stands and go to millennium with full seat have a bad back and can’t hardly sit against the tree at all anynore
Nothing wrong with that! You have to be comfortable on stand so you can stay on stand. Honestly I believe the day where I give up stands all together and go mobile on the ground is not too many years away for me.
I love the anal retentive nature geared towards keeping it quiet, I will most likely do the same setup
Awesome review! check out my sit and climb combo 2 review with tips.
good viedo. although i always find it comical when guys find the need to say "Im a traditional bowhunter" but hunt with other very modern equipment such as a cast aluminum stand from modern metal and modern machining. very contradictory, but to each their own.
so many ways I could argue that. But as you said to each their own. I am glad you enjoyed the video. And if you have any questions on any of the sticks or stand mods dont hesitate to ask.
Traditional Bowhunting And Wilderness Podcast I would love to hear the arguments. I have been to traditional banquets where they rag on compound hunters but use an inReach and gps and modern boots, clothes, etc..... oh and carbon arrows with a wood grain film over it like pffffft that’s the most contradictory thing there is!
Look I respect guys that use a traditional bow, I have a recurve myself but just don’t feel the need to spout off about it, we are a long ways from being traditional hunters
@@rippingbugles6091 not worth my breath to talk about it. And no matter anyway. You already formed your opinion. No need to waste the time. We are all entitled to what we think (at least until the dems get back in office). So no worries. I expect this sort of reaction from those that dont hunt with a trad bow. It's all good. Have a great season! Be safe and have fun regardless of what weapon you use.
Beast Sticks are lighter and technically better.
Not really. Do the math. 4 short sticks vs 3 normal length sticks. Not at all knocking the beast sticks, I love the design and concept and everything about them. But I prefer to only have to have 3 sticks and carry 3 sticks and wrap up 3 sticks, rather tha 4 shorter ones.
Just FYi Your Yak Grip link is no good anymore.
