I appreciate the time and effort you put into the VVE tuning for gen 4 GM PCMs - thank you! Question for you. It looks like you are a fan of changing the zone boundaries. If that is true, why do you believe it is beneficial to do so. I do not have an opinion on the matter just yet, but I just did a detailed review of a stock gm LS2, LS3 and LS7 tune & I noticed GM kept the zones identical for each of these. The engines are different displacement and I believe the engineers likely tried harder to get the most out of the ls7 tune. Looking forward to your response! Thanks in advance!

When you install an aggressive cam (lots of overlap and reversion), you are going to need to alter your zones. This allows for a better approximation of the final VE shape in the idle and mid range area. Sometimes you want to use a large zone to exploit unreachable areas so the math works out in other areas.
Can you tell me what years you did this detailed analysis? When I looked at the stock LS3 tune for my car and an 06 LS7 vette, the zones were indeed different. And the E40 tune I looked at for an LS2 GTO were different too.
Regardless, the OEM cams are EPA friendly and thus the zones are less critical in order to get the correct shape.
