Thank you Gerald! As you may have observed, you are the first person (out of 815) to comment on this video since I posted it in 2007. If you're interested in the back-story, read on... Speaking as a baby-boomer raised on 50's & 60's rock-n-roll, and all that followed (till about the mid-80's) -- and of course in my opinion only -- this song was one of the first bonafide, legitimately 'great' pop-songs to come along in decades -- then and now. I believe it came out in '04/'05, and I stumbled on it in '06 -- I think he performed it on SNL, but not sure. The moment I heard it I decided I wanted to make a video out of it, drawing on some photos I took while visiting a friend in the SW corner of France back in '05, who lived just outside of DAX. The opening image is the actual DAX bullet-train station I boarded en-route to Paris, where I planned to hang out for a few days, then catch my flight back home to the States. I arrived late at night at the Place d' Italie metro station, then spent a few days wandering around Paris, visiting Jim Morrison's grave, spent a full day at the Louvre, taking pictures all the while. So it was pretty easy to make a stylized series of visuals to go with the music. When I finished that part, I thought it was a pretty decent treatment of a really great song, but nothing really special. Then, literally the same afternoon I was getting ready to upload the video to RUclips -- I got a voice message from an ex-girlfriend, who happened to be 'living with another man' at the time. We had gotten back in touch, she had said she wanted to break it off with the guy, and I had encouraged her to do it. On this particular day, I had left her a message telling her I was heading down to the coast (Pacific) to meet some mutual friends the next morning, and suggested she 'tag along'. I'm assuming you caught the voice-track that bookends the music, but its easy to miss, because she's whispering in this very fetching 'conspiratorial' voice, not wanting to be overheard. When I listened to the voice-message, I immediately knew it had to be a part of the video. I split it into two pieces, opening and closing the video. Came out great. It was just dumb luck on my part, but I think this little snippet of non-linear 'vocal veritas', takes the video from 'ho-hum' to 'way-cool!'. I wish more people had picked it up. I've never been interested in the 'Likes' or 'Subscribes', never even considered trying to make money off other people's artistic achievements. I do enjoy it when someone enjoys the stuff I put up enough to comment on it, so thanks again for yours. I gotta admit, the one thing I'd enjoy most: if James Blunt gave it a listen, and maybe even a thumbs-up. (Not holding my breath on that however.)
