- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Moscow for the first bilateral visit of his third term. He will hold talks with President Vladimir Putin, in a bid to shore up ties with Russia and -- as some analysts speculate -- to offset China's sway. The Kremlin said Mr Modi's agenda over the next two days will be "extensive". It will reportedly include discussions on New Delhi's trade imbalance with Moscow, as well as defence cooperation. This is also Mr Modi's first trip to Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine. Ishan Garg and Dasha Chernyshova report from New Delhi and Moscow respectively.

First 2 points absolutely correct ! but you downplayed the China issue !...We can't downplay that our inevitable neighbor China wants to occupy Indian territory and has no plans of peace with India rather due to its immense economic size it thinks that it can easily bully India and that's exactly what it has been doing in recent years.....and to counter that Western support is also necessary although recognizing that they are very transactional and not as genuine as our most trusted partner which is indeed Russia !

Putin hasnt much choice in choosing his first destination to visit whereas Modi has plenty. In that sense, this visit send a clear signal to the west & the rest that the lndia🇮🇳-Russia🇷🇺 friendship is timeless, time-tested over centuries & cannot be dictated or influenced by others. Both need each other in many areas of cooperation like trade, defence, space, cultural link, P2P contacts, joint-ventures & production & so on. India is the only balancer between the two military super powers, USA & Russia. As the world see future in lndia, Russia too do not want to be left out as the rest rush to lndia to be part of it's growth story.

No need to convince, Russia is already trading with India in Rupees. There was a minor hiccup when Russia didn't know how to spend the Rupees it had accumulated, but that was resolved after a while as Russia found things to buy from India. Things like Ships built in Indian shipyards.
