Just now realizing that, at current, there’s still no real reason to go sailing. The Archives are part pf the caves and, at current, nothing’s fully implemented on the Lunar Island. Wow. But soon, at least.
if there were more things to find out in the sea and the boat items weren't so expensive, people would have been more interested in sailing. now if we can get glass shards from the cave, we would not even need to waste materials for a boat bridge

I can only hope that whatever comes next will demand that you have all 3 altars placed, so we have a real reason to go sailing and to the moon island.

Have you tried it out? I have pretty much a potato laptop but it does allow me to play with caves. Only gives me a bit of a lagspike at the moment the game saves.

Sure, but finishing the event isn't really the issue - it's the timing of it all. Again, you need to find the Moon Stone, locate the ruins, get the materials needed to craft two staffs, set up the event arena and be all ready by day 11 all the while still surviving and playing the game. That's tough no matter who you are.

Well, if the game retrofitted all the rest of The Archives and not the Fountains then that sounds like a done-goof on the game's part. Sorry there, friend, looks like you need a new world to get it all.
We don't know for certain but potentially, yes. I've heard that possibility of a special wormhole leading folk to them in older worlds however nothing has been confirmed.
Interesting that we have to destroy the gift we get from the moon with the help of dark magic to even get INTO the new moon dungeons. Wonder what the implications are there.

How about make it so the Full moon is guaranteed when the star staff is socketed in the moon pedistal? or better yet just make it not require full moon.
We don't know much about Them yet, but from what we know of them, they seem to be the main villain(s) of Don't Starve, as according to Maxwell in the OG Don't Starve, whoever is sitting on the Nightmare Throne is just a pawn of Them. "Even a king is bound to the board" he says.

Well, Hollowed Nights is around the corner here! Lots of DST, October content it seems!

Stalagmites in the caves have a chance to give fossils while spilagmites (the things that spawn cave spiders) drop guaranteed fossils.
