"Im from Daegu, I don't say anything twice" These words actually came out of Min Yoongi's mouth after he said he was from Daegu at least 5 times I can not believe
I like how Yoongi and Hoseok are argumenting bc of the accents and then Namjoon says "Why keep fighting, in the end, it’s all the same Korean. Look up, we are all looking at the same sky". It's funny, I mean, it's like he's saying "Guys, you are so stupid, stop with this childish discussion" xD

J-Hope: "That's not it. No~" Suga: "That's right." J-Hope: "That's not it! Ah~!" Suga: "I'm saying that I'm right!" J-Hope: "Just be quiet! (Shut up!)"

@@victoria883 or it's just about their internal fights based on the (insert province name) people looking down on (insert province name) just 'cuz of their certain dialect... Kinda reminds me of my country...

Lol I used to think he was the only one from Daegu until I read v was from Daegu as well and I looked into his younger days and listened and found he had a Daegu accent so yeah.

I really want to learn the difference so I can understand why everyone's freaking out and I'm definitely not new to kpop, but I just can't hear it T^T;;
Aya Scratch most of the big differences are parts of end of words and accents. and some(or many) words. but you don't need to know that, i think...^^; cause every countries have their satooris.
Aya Scratch The Kyunsangdo satoori that Suga is rapping in is distinguishable by foreigners and Koreans because it sounds a lot like Japanese. You can tell because during the break in the middle when they starting talking to each other, the first one to talk is Suga and I nearly mistook it for Japanese.
Aya Scratch it is not like american and british accent in english only...in korea, diff states have a diff way of expressing or speaking..for example, to expresss happiness, mayb ppl of seoul(which is the standard way of speaking korean) will say "I am happy"..but ppl of jeju island, kwangju.etc will say it in their own slang...some words is the same jz the way they pronounce it is diff or they hv their own word to express that meaning...
For those who are confused, the biggest difference to the ear between Jeollado (J-Hope) accent and the Kyungsangdo (Suga) accent is the heavy use of either the"Eh" (nasal) or the "Ah" (throaty) sounds. This combined with the fact that the Seoul accent is very proper (the pronunciation of each syllable is clear; there is little to no actual slang used) makes the accents stand out more, and like Rapmon said, those who have the "country" accents have a harder time adjusting their speech patterns/pronunciation to english, so even when speaking english with someone from a different state in South Korea, you can still pick up their accent most of the time.
Hyejin Park XD I can feel ya. My best friend was from Daegu and she literally felt like crying because she moved from Daegu and it made her proud. Then she said if I were to ever marry a korean guy he'd have to be from Daegu. Or else she'll hunt every worthy daegu guy for me XD
BTS Trash (Suga Infires Me) Omg really? Thats so cute :-) If I had to marry a Korean guy, he'd probably be from Kwangju, that way, we actually know what we're saying to each other lol
Suga's lisp (it's not as noticeable now as before, you can really hear it in Cypher pt 3) is because he tries to speak/rap in a Seoul accent so people can understand him better. He's gotten much better at it with practice. J Hope kind of had the same lisp in the beginning before the debut but he's gotten better at it as well. I kind of miss Suga's lisp.
i have to say i am a bit biased to suga because my dad is from daegu as well xD my mom makes fun of me because she says i have a bit of a daegu accent when i speak korean lol >_>
Lol I have a korean friend who's f romantic Daegu (her whole family is) and I learned korean while her family taught me and this other korean family said I have a slight Daegu accent when I try because I've been learning since a young age with the Daegu family.
1:02 hopi’s satoori accent is SUPER heavy right here! Oml I love it so much!!! Yoongi does a good job concealing his satoori these days but in this it really comes out huh? 😂 Then there’s RM, dude his satoori is almost undetectable.
Funny how I can only understand 75% of what Rap-Monster is saying in this song (learned korean for 1 year) yet I barely even understand what Suga and Jhope are saying because they are using satoori lol I feel like I understood like 5% of what they were saying because I barely saw familiar words. Can't blame myself since I only know the seoul dialect
Satoori is hard; it's a lot like English where there are just some idioms, phrases, and ways of saying things that you just have to memorize. I personally have all three because I lived in Seoul for three years and my parents are from Pusan (Gyeonsangdo) and Junju (Jeollado) respectively. But even people from different regions in Korea have a hard time understanding satoori. When I first moved to Seoul people didn't understand my Gyeonsangdo satoori.
Yes, the intonation is surprisingly similar to Japanese. I heard when people from Gyeongsang-do speak Japanese, their intonation is better compared to people from other regions because of that.
+1Dudette4Ever yeah but I only understand 50-75% of what Rapmonster is saying. I learned korean and studied very hard but there are still some grammar concepts and vocabulary that are really hard to recognize tbh
Still listening to this in 2015....well it's only the beginning of 2015 but still. Suga conversation with Jhope lmao apparently those to hate each other
I had 34 shot of vodka in this challenge: Drink a shot of alchohol everytime: Hobie drags his vowels MinSuga mentions he's from Daegu Namjoon speaks English Your turn fellow A.R.M.Ys :)
To anyone who still can't hear the difference, watch Reply 1997 (AKA: Answer Me 1997). It will increase your understanding greatly. I just watched it and got unreasonably excited the first time someone said, "Mworakano" (and then it was said like a million times more lol). The whole thing takes place in Busan, so you'll get really familiar with kyeongsangdo. There's also a character that transfers from Seoul, so you get to see the difference. It's also a fantastic drama, so y'all should see it anyway ^_^
Guys if you're wondering what Yoongi and Hoseok are saying at 1:58 here's a rough translation I found. Suga: You know, honestly, I've been thinking... J-Hope: Hyung-nim. S: I think men from Gyeongsang Province are good looking. J: That's not true~ Hyung-nim S: I say it is J: I say it isn't~ S: It's true! J: Ah~! Just be quite!
Jeolla and gyeongsan people have a long history, where jeollado was pretty much the loser province in korea in the time of the three kingdoms, and they were upset that gyeongsan didn't help them when they had to struggle while gyeongsan people were dominant. The rivalry is still definitely here today, and that's probably the history for this song ;) sorry it was long...
Blair Laurens but i heard that many rape victims are gyungsando women when korea was japan's colony. and what i know is GSD vs JLD stared since less then 100 years ago not that long long time ago.
Tv show being made because of this song .. I think its amazing because they’re bringing every accent together and making everyone feel special.. even if some ppl see it as weird or strange .. at the end of the day.. a Korean is a Korean no matter what accent he speaks with and they should be proud of that. I love it
Rapmon's lyrics, about 2:30 minutes into this song, reflect my thoughts on the accents. Suga sounds tougher, some would say manlier, when rapping in his satoori, while J-Hope sounds cuter, friendlier, happier than when he normally raps. I was actually listening to this song on my phone before I came here but I couldn't figure out which parts belonged to whom, with the exception of RMs bits. Suga sounded so different and my Korean is by no means good enough for me to distinguish the lyrics when they go this fast. So bless you for making this video. I love this song so much.
A professor asked this question about dialects. And the professor watched/heard this song. His was amazed because he’d never heard such a good answer before, BTS is right it’s all the same, *all Korean*
addition: 0:45 : V 0:50 : Jungkook 1:08 (the ''meorake sanno" part) and the part "ma ma morakano" mainly : Jimin and jin, he's probably there somewhere.. lol he so underrated.. :')
rickieflower Originally yes it was only these three in the song, but this particular version of the song has everyone in it (even though the others only have a few lines) so Leinarina is right with her additions c:
"hasyeotjiraaa" , "geot ttiyaaa" maaaan ,i love every word that ends with that tone in the song so much, his parts are my fav in this one,j-hope makes this so joyful, that's amazing😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
okay not to over-analyze a perfectly cute song but the message in this song is hella. in Korea for a long time there's a stigma regarding accents. People with accents are regarded as uneducated country bumpkins and encouraged to suppress dialects. Seoul dialect is considered the "standard" (which is reasonable considering the population distribution among the regions) but the whole assimilation ideology that a lot of Seoul people adhere to threatens the diverse Korean culture. As more people opt to hide their accents, various subcultures/regional flares are being erased as well. Im so glad that these boys made this song cuz it showcases various types of Korean speech.
Honestly, this is one of my favorite BTS songs... it's so unique the way they rap in different dialects, and also the message that RM gives in the end that even though people are from different places and speak differently, we're all looking up at the same sky... so meaningful. I love BTS so much.
if i got this right.. do the tree of them rap in different accents here? :o and if.. what's the dialect called that J-Hope speak? it's sounds so cute :3
it's actually more than suga, rap mon, and J-Hope :) Jimin, Taehyung, and I believe Jungkook&Jin also sings in this song... but honestly good job I love this song&video :)
this bring me to memoriesssssss. how i get into Bangtan world and how Im obsessed to this song and listen to it countless time! i miss these kiddos! please dont grow old Bangtan boys!
Jin - Gwacheon (Gyeong-gi-do) Suga - Daegu (Gyeong-sang-do) RM - ilsan (Gyeong-gi-do) J Hope - Gwangju (Jeolla-do) Jimin - Busan (Gyeong-sang-do) V - Geochang (Gyeong-sang-do) {V was born in Geochang and he moved to Daegu later.} Jungkook - Busan (Gyeong-sang-do) So, BTS members were born in different cities, except JK&JM(Busan). And now BTS lives in Seoul (capital of Korea.) +) dialect(satoori in Korean) ☆ Gyeong-sang-do dialect(JM,JK,V usually use dialect and 60% of their accent is dialect. Suga uses standard lauguage at normal times.) ☆ Jeolla-do dialect (Hobi always uses jeolla-do dialect. His accent is 100% jeolla-do dialect>< My city is Gwangju too, so that's why I love J hope so much) ☆ Gyeong-gi-do people don't use dialect. They use standard language. Do RM&Jin use dialect? Don't be confused. They usually copy other members dialect:) from Korea-ARMY:)
"Im from Daegu, I don't say anything twice"
These words actually came out of Min Yoongi's mouth after he said he was from Daegu at least 5 times I can not believe
I'm laughing so hard right now at your comment! hahaha
Jinsang Park well he didn't say it twice though he said it five times so he's still genius for that loophole
Jinsang Park "...Don't forget from whence you came..." -Hamilton
Jinsang Park Lmao
well ppl from Daegu and Busan tend to say their phrases much more shorter and they don't really say it twice.
I like how Yoongi and Hoseok are argumenting bc of the accents and then Namjoon says "Why keep fighting, in the end, it’s all the same Korean. Look up, we are all looking at the same sky". It's funny, I mean, it's like he's saying "Guys, you are so stupid, stop with this childish discussion" xD
well he is the dad of the group lol
+bueaty3656 yup and Seokjin is the dad so yes I agree
They also argue in Can You Turn Off Your Phone, ..the three of them are so cute arguing with rap
RedRose ARMY we don't need any rap battles with these three because they argue in their songs anyway lol
+bueaty3656 I didnt mean they battle with each other, the arguement in their song is so cute..reflecting their true relationship ^^
So here's a (rough) translation of the dialogue in the middle:
Suga: "Just think about honestly..."
J-Hope: "Hnngyah" (?)
Suga: "Men from Kyeongsang seem a little more handsome."
J-Hope: "That's not it. No~"
Suga: "That's right."
J-Hope: "That's not it! Ah~!"
Suga: "I'm saying that I'm right!"
J-Hope: "Just be quiet! (Shut up!)"
+Needsmoreglitter BTW J-hope says "Hyungnim" not "Hnngyah"
+Needsmoreglitter the Hnngyah is the formal version of Hyung
+Olivia D I realize that it says "Hyungnim-ah" now, but it was just so... Gargled...
+Olivia D well, I don't know about the "ah" part...
Needsmoreglitter yeah he says it weirdly lol

3: When Rapmonster speaks English.

Yoongi does a good job concealing his satoori these days but in this it really comes out huh? 😂
Then there’s RM, dude his satoori is almost undetectable.
+Minjee Kim gyeongsang-do dialect sounds the most unique one (besides jeju) it sounds a little bit like japanese for some reason lol
Yes, the intonation is surprisingly similar to Japanese. I heard when people from Gyeongsang-do speak Japanese, their intonation is better compared to people from other regions because of that.
you're telling me you learned korean for *ONE YEAR* and you understand it? omg goals.
+1Dudette4Ever yeah but I only understand 50-75% of what Rapmonster is saying. I learned korean and studied very hard but there are still some grammar concepts and vocabulary that are really hard to recognize tbh
Have you noticed that that part of "ma ma mworakano" it's jimin
Probably because he has a strong busan accent😊
Agust D Of course
yea😁
Still listening to this in 2015....well it's only the beginning of 2015 but still.
Suga conversation with Jhope lmao apparently those to hate each other
I had 34 shot of vodka in this challenge:
Drink a shot of alchohol everytime:
Hobie drags his vowels
MinSuga mentions he's from Daegu
Namjoon speaks English
Your turn fellow A.R.M.Ys :)
Rip everyone who tried it
I think theyre too drunk to type a reply
When you can actually differentiate satoori and proper korean (seoul dialect) this song is really fun hahaha :))
I wish I could hear the difference more, but I really like this song!
hana kim im not a korean but i can differentiate them basing on the...what is that called like the sound or pitch? something like that. 😀
THEY CALLED HWARANG I
i screamed
THEY CALLED THE *RISE OF BTS* ALSO. I SOMETIMES FEEL LIKE THEY REALLY DO TIME-TRAVEL.
Lol I just started that drama
아...;;사투리 매력있다 증말...♥♥

DIDNT I FIND THIS EARLIER?!
I heard Hwarang......
/TRIGGERED/
TAEHYUNG-AHHHHHHHHHH YEYYY
same
Ade rollers Hwarang is a group of soldiers of beautiful men in Korea.
J: Ah~! Just be quite!
lol when suga rapped 'hamohamo', was i the only who thought of the guy from 'fated to love you'? LOL Hamo Hamo~
.... i did not think of that lol
+Victoria Aquino I did ahahahahah xDDDD
Omg yes I’ve seen that show. Sorry I’m soooo late. 😂
Hamohamo is mean yes
I'm in love with their accents
That is so cool I can distinguish the satori!! I'm so proud of myself hehe! I love this song 😍
왠지 듣기좋다
방탄 파이팅
이 노래 듣고 방탄 더 좋아졌다.
아휴. 아 놔.
진짜 다른 아이돌이었네.
방탄스타일로 계속 가 주세요.
섞어 만드는 노래 아닌, 방탄만의 색으로.
Came back to read the lyrics of this rap again and I just now realized that the beginning is literally just Yoongi and Hoseok arguing over food
Namjoon's part made me sooo happy ♥ I love the song xx
Jeolla and gyeongsan people have a long history, where jeollado was pretty much the loser province in korea in the time of the three kingdoms, and they were upset that gyeongsan didn't help them when they had to struggle while gyeongsan people were dominant. The rivalry is still definitely here today, and that's probably the history for this song ;) sorry it was long...
Blair Laurens but i heard that many rape victims are gyungsando women when korea was japan's colony. and what i know is GSD vs JLD stared since less then 100 years ago not that long long time ago.
+Blair Laurens Baekje Kingdom (Jeolla) vs Silla Kingdom (Gyeongsang)
Tv show being made because of this song .. I think its amazing because they’re bringing every accent together and making everyone feel special.. even if some ppl see it as weird or strange .. at the end of the day.. a Korean is a Korean no matter what accent he speaks with and they should be proud of that. I love it
This song will never get old.. who's with me?
Rapmon's lyrics, about 2:30 minutes into this song, reflect my thoughts on the accents. Suga sounds tougher, some would say manlier, when rapping in his satoori, while J-Hope sounds cuter, friendlier, happier than when he normally raps. I was actually listening to this song on my phone before I came here but I couldn't figure out which parts belonged to whom, with the exception of RMs bits. Suga sounded so different and my Korean is by no means good enough for me to distinguish the lyrics when they go this fast. So bless you for making this video. I love this song so much.
역시 방탄아입니꺼방탄이 최고인기라
A professor asked this question about dialects. And the professor watched/heard this song. His was amazed because he’d never heard such a good answer before, BTS is right it’s all the same, *all Korean*
Hwarang is mentioned, and now Taehyung is in a drama called 'Hwarang,' that is so cool!
Satoori accent has to be the most sexiest dialect for me and I love love this song
addition:
0:45 : V
0:50 : Jungkook
1:08 (the ''meorake sanno" part) and the part "ma ma morakano" mainly : Jimin
and jin, he's probably there somewhere.. lol he so underrated.. :')
Actually originally it was only these three. They added in the other members for the lives on like ShowCham and stuff :)
rickieflower Originally yes it was only these three in the song, but this particular version of the song has everyone in it (even though the others only have a few lines) so Leinarina is right with her additions c:
"hasyeotjiraaa" , "geot ttiyaaa" maaaan ,i love every word that ends with that tone in the song so much, his parts are my fav in this one,j-hope makes this so joyful, that's amazing😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love all of Hoseoks parts soooo much
wuoh!! they're just so amazing!!! ♥
Jhope's accent sounds so cute, it suits his personality!
I love suga the way always his from Daegu he was really proud his born town love it💜💜💜💪💪💪🥰🥰🥰
oh my god everyone hold on. imagine if suga and nicki did a track together. oh my god. the mix of voices and characters, oh my god.
This is the real BTS content I love since 7 years
Suga's rap is so sexy. Igaf
right
I've been tryna find this song for a minute!! Thanks for posting it!
I never get sick of this song. It's everything👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
every time i listen to this i just think wow the effort here, to make these punchlines and to get all their accents on beat, i just love this so much
okay not to over-analyze a perfectly cute song but the message in this song is hella. in Korea for a long time there's a stigma regarding accents.
J-Hope speaks Jeolla satoori.
It does sound realllly friendly doesn't it
Casey. Smith although, j-hope makes eVERYTHING sound friendly haha he's a lil sunshine :)
I can't describe how talented and unique these guys are. We need to treasure these kids.
I remember blasting this on my speakers together with Spine Breaker back in 2014. Forever iconic!
Spine Breaker is one of the most epic tracks IMO, love it too
it's actually more than suga, rap mon, and J-Hope :) Jimin, Taehyung, and I believe Jungkook&Jin also sings in this song... but honestly good job I love this song&video :)
I believe It was originally three but for the lives they added all the members in
Yea^ Originally these three wrote it i believe before debut? But for the performance aspect they added Jimin, V, Jungkook, and Jin (:
BAPsAngel the last hook though. Suga's and J-hope's parts are replaced by Jimin and Jungkook. You can hear it if your listen closely
xBlackEternity oh yeah. You can hear v, and jungguk at about 00:47, and jimin doing the mamamorakano.
I knew it! Even when it was my first time listening to this, I knew I heard Jimin's and kook's Busan satoori
ㅋㅋ노래 쩐다 완전중독
this bring me to memoriesssssss. how i get into Bangtan world and how Im obsessed to this song and listen to it countless time! i miss these kiddos! please dont grow old Bangtan boys!
J-hope's Heumiiiiii!!!! at 1:23 gets me every single time XD
와 이걸 번역해내시다니 대단합니다....!!! 진짜 팔도강산 들으면서 도대체 이건 어케 영어로 옮기냐 했는데 여기 하시는분이 계시네요 짱짱
Jin - Gwacheon (Gyeong-gi-do)
Suga - Daegu (Gyeong-sang-do)
RM - ilsan (Gyeong-gi-do)
J Hope - Gwangju (Jeolla-do)
Jimin - Busan (Gyeong-sang-do)
V - Geochang (Gyeong-sang-do)
{V was born in Geochang and he moved to Daegu later.}
Jungkook - Busan (Gyeong-sang-do)
So, BTS members were born in different cities, except JK&JM(Busan).
And now BTS lives in Seoul (capital of Korea.)
+) dialect(satoori in Korean)
☆ Gyeong-sang-do dialect(JM,JK,V usually use dialect and 60% of their accent is dialect. Suga uses standard lauguage at normal times.)
☆ Jeolla-do dialect (Hobi always uses jeolla-do dialect. His accent is 100% jeolla-do dialect>< My city is Gwangju too, so that's why I love J hope so much)
☆ Gyeong-gi-do people don't use dialect. They use standard language. Do RM&Jin use dialect? Don't be confused. They usually copy other members dialect:)
from Korea-ARMY:)
ahh, thanks alot for the short but very understandable explanation!
It would be great if I could hear the difference between the accents, I would enjoy the song so much
