@gapple * In most normal scenarios, Greenland is very VERY hard to infect. Even when you finally do get your virus over there it takes ages to spread to the entire populace. In this scenario, it was consumed almost instantly. So David is saying maybe the devs just did that to take the piss out of the game's usual programming.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in this scenario what you want is to get a lot of early game plausibility, so when people hear about the fake news they are more inclined to believe it, rather than becoming informed, and then ramp up vitality so loads of people hear about, instead of trying to ramp up vitality and gain plausibility later.
Lol fact checkers sometimes spread fake news themselves.

Here's an interesting question:
In a world where you can't know the truth, and you know that you can't know the truth, what is the purpuse of a news outlet?
Followup question (though no doubt more contervertial, and harder answer):
In such a world, what benefits does garanteeing free speech have?
It is an utopian goal to strive for. The question really is what you would be without people trying to uncover truth. I wouldn't be able to survive without it.
The purpose of a news outlet in a world of absolute uncertainty for a given topic is information that is culturally useful, or as a control mechanism set upon those who both do not accept the idea of unknowable truth for the given topic and trust the news to tell the truth that is knowable on that topic.
in such a world, guaranteeing free speech on that topic has the benefit of liberty (not being fined or imprisoned, and being secure in your personal belongings) for those who hold any opinions on that topic, with the side affect of the news institutions having less control of the public perception of that topic, and therefore less excuse to manufacture a movement based on institutionalized opinion on that topic.

Why not start with the idea that many journalists try to do their job through a good deontologic code, whatever the wet dreams of those in power (or those who want that power) of controlling the narrative? If you look at reality: it is not that the alternative of dog eat dog trolling and pushing whatever hoax or gaslighting whichever opponent wherever, is any more perfect or would bring us any more truth.

@@zachsoto7621 That code is like the scientific method: you subject something to tests and then you accept it temporarily, until proven otherwise. Still a whole lot better than just 'anything goes'. Concerning your second point, stating that the news outlets don't value ethics, that's mere conjecture, your own bias. Even if some news outlets don't value ethics, there are still many journalists who do, who work within those outlets, and also, you can investigate their sources and their names and such, I cannot investigate you and what you defend (for instance). Why would I distrust media outlets whose job it is to seek and uncover an utopian point of truth, based on the echo chamber of random people on the internet whose identity, background, ideology and political agenda I don't even know and am unable to disclose?
I beat this in Casual, Normal and Brutal but i couldn't beat in Mega Brutal and this will help me a lot, apreciate Pravus :)

I am have a actual degree in Welding Engineering Technology, which means I am an actual expert in this subject.
The World Trade Center collapse was not faked, it was taken down by terrorists.
When heated to high enough temperatures steel will become soft and malleable before it melts. This is called the forging temperature of the metal as in the temperature range blacksmiths use to shape and work with metal. The steel beams don't need to melt they just need to become soft enough to give way on one of the floors. Then when those steel beams give way you have a situation where otherwise uncompromised steel beams are now overloaded and fail and the floors below the fire fail because instead of being under a normal semi-static load they are suddenly under the impact load of an entire building falling on them. Think of placing a 5 lbs weight on a glass table vs dropping the 5 lbs weight on a glass table.
Never forget the burning temperature of wood and many other substances that would have been present in the building is much hotter than the burning temperature of jet fuel. Ancient civilizations fueled forges with wood or coal, they were not doing it with jet fuel.
Jackson Davis ok the fact that steel losses strength before reaching melting point I am well aware of. What I am also aware of is fire is not equal, controlled or targeted. This means the expected structural failure would be un even and the building topples not fall on its own foundations. That is a result hoped for during a demolition not a aircraft crashing into one side of a building. Like chopping a tree remove material from one side it will likely fall on that side. Removing material in this case heating the support columns. No disrespect just like a good debate have a good day.
@@AceDan-gc9po Two problems with that theory, the heating was caused at the upper layers of the building, when the supports failed, the building started to fall downwards, second, unlike a tree, a building has a lot of hollow space inside of it, that allows materials to fall inwards, not just outwards. Secondly, conversation of energy is a bit of a bitch, so when the upper levels supports gave out, and fell downwards, a bunch of ectra energy was added upon the supports below it at roughly or nearly roughly the same time, allowing the building to more or less crumple, instead of folding.
Next perform an experiment for me, take a can, carefully add weight onto the can till the can gives out.....Take another can, take a pen, quickly poke a dent or hold int the can, then repeat the experiment, you will notice something. Second experiment, take a steel bar, hit something with it, see how much damage you do to the steel bar....Take that same steel bar, and heat it 650 degrees C, hit something with that same steel bar, and see how much damage you do to that steel bar....Repeat the experiment as many times as you want.

This is really good, and I’m glad Plague made something like this. Just this scenario’s existence sort of spreads awareness of this issue. In my opinion, fake news is more of an issue than many even give it credit for.

I don't think we should *have* official fact checkers. People should not be in charge of determining fact in matters which are or can be easily construed as a matter of opinion or technicality.

I agree. I think the problem with fact checkers is they tend to try to sum everything up in a simple answer when the actual facts are far more complicated. And often, they actually distract from the question itself or get hung up on a single word in the question.
For example:
Opinion 1: Islam is peace.
Opinion 2: Islam is violent.
Fact checker: According to polls, an overwhelming majority of Muslims say they want peace.
Facts: Read the Quran, learn about Mohammed's career as a "prophet", observe the behaviour of your local Muslim neighbors but also the general state of things in predomionantly Muslim countries, and you will find your own facts.

The most reallistic scenario if you think about it, and that has happened a "couple" times before.
The thing that the main mode needs is a recovered percentage. There isn't a plauge that has a 100% fatality rate. Even the bubonic plauge had 10 people out of every 1000 survive
Followed this guide and finally beat this scenario on Mega Brutal. Even got a score of 83947. Thank you.

One thing ive found to work is just focus entirely on plausability as much as you can before going for virality. Tons of virality but little plausability means a lot of people will be getting tricked sure, but a fuckton more will get informed. If you focus on plausability however, before long your tricked people will start to outnumber the informed, and this only gets better as you focus harder on your plausability
So many new mechanics added to the game engine...none of which are available in the scenario creator. It's a shame, that allied-neutral-enemy dynamic looks like it would be a lot of fun to play with :(
