Super video, Dave, and your weathering on the gasometer kit is most excellent. The WHWW OHLE looks just the part for modern era layouts especially, as you say, with the proliferation of some excellent models - I was delighted to learn from them at Model Rail Scotland that us 'N' gauge folk won't be left out and that they'll introduce the same items in N once the 'OO' has undergone its full launch.
Another interesting and fantastic video Dave. Really enjoy your layout updates and love a general running session video just to see about the layout and seeing your different rolling stock and locos running.
Thanks for another great video. The Accurascale coaches look excellent and nice weathering on the 45. That gas storage tank is very interesting, I really like the weathering paint job you've done, Cheers, all the best.
Thanks. Yeah I’m pretty pleased at how the tank has turned out if I’m honest. The peak is a lovely loco and the weathering really brings it to life. Glad you enjoyed watching, thanks for supporting the channel and getting in touch. Cheers. Dave
Great video once again, the new Accurascale Mk2s look ace, and makes me more excited about mine, when they get released in Trans Pennine livery! Also, whilst not a steam fan, 60009 sounds great, and John Cameron would be very proud of your efforts in modelling his engine!
Those catenary look spot on shall keep an eye on those from west hill, only thing i have left to do, thanks for uploading atb phil @ charlemont parkway
@@DeanPark keep an eye on my next upload Dave im collecting finished weathered container rake tomorrow (friday), ive already seen the photos they are something else 😀
Gas tower looks ace. Very reminiscent of the ones at the M80 / M8 junction in Glasgow, throw back to my childhood. 😁 I think it would look good if the other one is at a different level. Great video as always. Cheers, John.
Great video as always Dave, love the gas cylinders (the weathering in particular) and the OHLE, this looks like it'll be a superb range once it is in stock James
Thanks so much Dave for this great update and the amazing news regarding OHLE and the links! I've just ordered all the track for my first layout in 36 years, it will be based on the WCML south of Birmingham circa early 80s. Nearly all the motive power is now available, I have even ordered an essential Britannia Pacific Class 310. My biggest concern has always been the correct knitting so this is very positive news. Now my only concern is the post as I'm doing it all in Thailand!
As always a very enjoyable and informative video Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing the full range of WHWW portals as I model the west coast mainline and will soon be at the point of fitting OHLE. Thanks again Steve
Because of you Dave I've got sound in my Hornby A4 which is amazing so thank you for sending me what you got. I saw the OHLE prototypes at WHWW the week before Glasgow and although it's not something I'll ever model the attention to detail on them is amazing.
The gas holders look really good. I have used a few Walthers kits and fond them good value they have been well designed to go together easily too. A friend said to look on the Mech modals stand at Glasgow show who have a good range of Walthers kits and I did find one I was looking for there. I will look up the OHL those masts look real good and a great idea fitting them with magnetic bases.
Hi Dave, a good update on the layout, as a youth (50 something years ago), I worked with a uncle on a milk round (the canteen & offices were delivered to), we delivered to Romford Gas Works, I was first surprised at the number of brick buildings and number of pipes with walls around them! some 30 year later I worked for Yara delivering furtizer, at two of the storage plants Bristol & Dagenham docks they had riveted storage tanks (these were pre WW2, after which they were all welded). Also when Omex took the oil depot at Ipswich over they had to change all the valves, screw shut off points, from brass/alloy to steel as the fertilizer dissolved the metals, brass or alloy was used due no sparks. On naming the Peak, its your railway it looks right so what is wrong? I can remember seeing a exhibition layout were all the locos, wagons & carriages were painted by hand using Humbrol oil paint by brush in lates say very original colours.
Cheers! I’ll have some pipes going in their direction. And perhaps going underground before reaching them. I’ll have to see. I really like my Peak depot pet loco. Wanted to name one after the layout for years. So I decided to give that honour to a dirty old peak.:-)
Awesome build thought it was O gauge its that good. Handy tip for weathering use a childs water colour set but add a bit of washing up liquid to the water and you get a robust matt finish.
"Traffic westbound on the LIE is backed up to the Elmhurst gas tanks" was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thumbnail. Your gasometer looks really neat with the weathering! Wasn't there one of these at the end of the block that the Huggets lived on?
I have a few Walthers kits on my layout. Some of them are very good for filling your spares box with parts to make something else scratch built later. When are you adding the Glasgow' Smiles Better signage Dave? Impressive looking structure. Really like your personalised Peak. I don't have a Class 45 as yet, but it's on the shopping list. I do, however, have a block of flats called Dean Park! ;-) Having just repurposed an old Dapol signal gantry I'm blown away with the fineness of these OHLE masts. Cheers
That slogan takes me back! New OHLE has been a long time coming. I have worked with WHWW to get this released. Its looking very promising and goes beyond what I thought was possible.
The paintwork on the gasometer looks great. I'm old enough to remember we had 2 near where we lived but they seemed much larger than the one you have. Maybe there are different sizes based on usage volumes or perhaps it's that I was a kid and everything seemed larger.😊 Excellent update. Cheers!
Looking forward to your future video on fitting the brass snow ploughs to your Bachmann 37s. I feel this is something I should attempt for my two, but worry that I would exceed my weekly sweary word quota in minutes!
Dave it’s always great to catch up on all the new developments at Dean Park. No9 really sounds good. Really takes the model to the next level. If I hadn’t already gone down the Hornby HM7000 sound route for my Dublo A4 & A3 this would definitely be my choice too. The Mk2 coaches really are the dog’s pyjamas. I’ve got the WCRC liveried coaches which look great behind Scotsman & No9. I can highly recommend them to you. You’re right to highlight the improvement in the magnetic couplings & the onboard lighting. Having had a demo of the WHWW catenary at Model Rail Scotland I’m now really looking forward to seeing the final product. Interestingly, the WHWW guys were keen to know if I would use wires. They know their stuff and highlighted the difficulty in producing a correct scale wire. I think I’m likely to not bother with the wire and trust my failing eyesight to trick me into thinking they’re there.
nice video. That gas tower looks really nice. If you are going to put it in a tight spot, and still want more of them, you could take a photo of the finished kit, in the correct lighting and print it. Put the cutout behind or next to the gas tower and voila you got an impressive industrial site. I have done that with walters cementsilos and could double that building without using mores space. Thanks for the video !
That's gasometer looks fantastic with the weathering. The ohl looks the part, had a quick look at Glasgow but didn't get chance speak to them. Is the a rough due date for them
Overall good update here Dave, some great things covered, the new accurascale mk2s look quite nice, might be something I add in the future though as currently I made more than enough mk2 coaches plus I’m currently on the lookout for other models right now, mainly wagons, that overhead catenary looks quite good, maybe something I will try in the future also as I would like to try doing an overhead line when I can start building a layout, overall a good job on the 45, while I will admit I’m not a huge fan of fictional locomotives in OO gauge I can overlook something that relates to the layout and having a loco named after your layout is certanly a good idea, overall some great things in this update Dave, keep up the great work.
The new overhead wires look great and really robust…however I do think you should keep the ones you made yourself in somewhere given the amount of time you probably spent on them. Look forward to seeing more of no9 running around your layout

Personally I think you should keep the headspan style OHLE as that’s more prototypical of the ECML electrification. Loved the weathering on the 45, great model.
I like the work on the gas tank especially the rusting effect. A question though - you say (rightly) that the bits exposed to the air and weather would be more affected, but by that argument the bottom layer would be horrible. Perhaps the answer is that the bottom layer is easier to maintain. Whatever, it adds to the whole atmosphere of the layout.
Darrenbury Central HI love the gas holder. Just a thought on over head lines you could get a spool of Pike fishing wire trace line it's metal v thin . Enjoy the shows. Tatty bi
Yeah I do like the gas holder too :-) Nice idea about the pike wire. I’ve got some really thin wires I could also use if the peco ones don’t do the job. :-)
When you mount the 1/2 Gas Storage Tank it may well look better if the other i/2 of the lattice could be represented behind the low relief. Great video, particularly like those ploughs you've fitted to the Class 37, miles better than the Bachmann stock ones. What make are they? I'm having no luck finding etched ploughs on Google!

Instead of taking the whole wall out to accommodate the masts, why not cut the wall where the masts are going to be placed and build a bay wall around them. just an idea.
