If Brushy really was Billy, why would he want to come out to try and get a pardon that was promised to him by a dead governor? Obviously, he wouldn't get it. Why would he care about a pardon anyway? It wasn't like anyone was looking for him. "Oh yea, and while you're at it, charge me with the murder of Olinger and Bell?"

Absolutely. That’s far from a “devastating stroke,” however. I believe Brushy did have high blood pressure. I think due to nerves and how “real” the situation became (he went from telling tall tales on street corners to meeting a governor and police and news reporters) that he most likely had an anxiety attack of some sort, and probably sabotaged the meeting intentionally. He recovered quickly however, and does not seem to have needed medical attention. (According to Morrison’s notes, Brushy seemed in a better mood than Morrison later back in El Paso).
The point of this discussion is to call attention to just one instance where Dan and others (who constantly accuse those of us who sincerely pursue history of doing this very thing) shape the narrative to their liking without any grounds for doing so. In this case: “Poor Brushy was taken advantage of by the evil executive office and suffered a ‘devastating stroke’ and that’s why he performed so poorly.’” Not so. We know it. And Dan knows it. The best he can do is accuse those of us asking honest questions of being part of some conspiracy and telling his followers not to engage in dialogue. He blocks us all from his platforms etc. He must control the narrative and the flow of information. Because open inquiry leads to exposing the whole charade.

From what I heard, he was evaluated by some physician upon getting back to Hico. And it was the opinion of that doctor he had a stroke or heart attack. However, I think the true story was when he got back he did see a doctor and was told he had a nervous breakdown. Because after all he wrote Ola Everhard he had a nervous breakdown and was in bed for two weeks after meeting Mabry. But I also think the nervous breakdown might have been unrelated to Mabry. Why? Apparently Lizzie and the entire Roberts family never knew about Mabry until they saw it in the papers and I'm sure he was confronted about it upon coming home, etc. and that might've triggered his nervous breakdown. We'll never know unless we saw the complete writings of Morrison and Cline's letters from the Roberts family and from Brushy's in-laws and stepchildren to get a complete picture.
