It's strange, my school music teachers literally taught me nothing, compared to what I've taught myself using the internet.
      Especially these videos.
It's a good job that my clarinet teacher taught me basic music and breathing.
I don't remember hearing the term "circle of 5ths" 20 years ago though.

@@1Flyingfist I remember a teacher showing me a little cardboard wheel diagram of the circle of 5ths that you could spin the middle around showing the corresponding 5th notes and said this is all you'll ever need to know for writhing chord progressions, then he handed it to me and didn't give any further instruction as if it was all I would need. I played around with it a few times until I realised it was actually a killer frisby and after that I only used it to throw around the house. It really was amazing to throw I wish I still had it.

You are a fantastic communicator. Teaching complex things in a complex way = Insecurity. The teacher doesn’t understand it well, and is parroting what others said. Or they need to ‘impress’ people to have their ego stroked. You teach complex things simply because you know it so well, and are confident in your skills. What a pleasure to learn from you, Gracie!

Years ago I bought a book called The Elementary Rudiments of Music, by Barbara Warham. Learning music theory was and is the single greatest thing that has improved my playing. I know many people scoff at this but the ability is in the head, not the hands. Somewhere along the line I lost this book just when I was getting into the section on intervals.
This teaching is immensely helpful in my continuing quest toward musical improvement. Again the improvement comes with the understanding, why before how.

Loving your videos! I’m a “play by ear, never had the self discipline to read music “ kind of guy, but have always realized the limitations of not having the music theory under my belt. Your circle of 5ths vids have changed everything for me!

I like how you explain why it could be confusing, then explain why it makes sense. It really helps to make sense out of things. You’re a great teacher. Thank you!!

Play guitar for more than 30 years. Watching your films for half an afternoon now, already helpfull. Was always so intimidated by music theory, completely not necessary!

Thank you for awesome explanation of intervals. I am a music hobbyist for many years and causal learning about topics like this easily trip me up. This video sorted out my confusion. You are a great teacher and my hero. I hope you are well compensated for your teaching skill as you must have spent many hours learning these topics. Keep up the great work! I watched a music video of yours and you are an amazing performer as well. I am continually impressed by all your endeavors

I love the way you explain intervals. I’ve had 5 different teachers in LA attempt to teach this to me (adult piano student of 6 years) and no one explains it as clear and easy like you do. Thank you thank you very much for clearing up how to determine the degrees because the other teachers only confused me more.
