I've used tomato powder in recipes for years. Doctor it up a bit with Italian seasoning, Worstershire sauce, dried onion and garlic. Makes a great spaghetti sauce. I usually just repack extra powder in mylar bags to store the remainder after opening.

@@allthinghomewithlynn You can also use it as a tomato paste, say for Sloppy Joes. the powder will harden up like a brick, but no worries, still good to go, just pound it out like you would brown sugar gone solid. Our nearest grocery store is a 40 mile round trip, we live out in the desert, so you learn to stock well or you're going for a long ride for a forgotten item! 😁

I used to make mixes frequently when I fed more people. Homemade "rice a roni" and "hamburger helper" were popular. Also pancakes, biscuits, basic cake.
I found I didn't use the mixes once it was just me or me and my friend.
I do have my favorite seasoning blends that I've been making for years.

Lynn, freeze your pasta for 2 or 3 days, then let it sit a few days to get rid of any moisture before storing. Freezing kills any eggs of those nasty critters that are in most grains.

Fall / autumn is MY FAVORITE time of year. 🍁
I used to cook for 10 to 20 adults almost every night. That slowly changed until eventually it was just 5 to 7. And then my children started getting married ... now I'm by myself except I feed a friend almost daily. I'm still not adjusted from all the changes, but I think I'm getting closer?!
A few years ago I started vacuum sealing dry goods like crackers and pastas into mason jars ... this keeps bulk purchases fresh since it take a while to get through them.
I actually own a freeze dryer ... some things I like to FD and other things I don't. This was my first year NOT growing a large garden (I'm focusing on slowing down but want yo still have a manageable garden ... whatever that is!), so no big tomato harvests. I usually pressure can homemade tomato sauce, but your FD sauce reminded me that I can buy the organic sauce at Aldis in bulk and FD it :) Thanks!

I think this is my first time here, so I'll subscribe. I hope to have a pantry video posted soon... probably within a day in the life video ... if you're interested!
God bless, Joanne in SW MO

@@allthinghomewithlynn the freeze dryer is a luxury for sure. It was on my wish list for several years before I actually got one. Since I don't use it every day, I make sure to remind my daughter and daughters-in-law to give me things to FD for them. :)
Anyway - have a great day!

🍁fall. It’s good to see you back again I have missed your videos. Regarding your question about dry mixes for the pantry. I keep cream of soup base for any cream soup, plus cream of chicken, mushroom, celery, cheddar cheese, potato and loaded potato, broccoli and cheddar. I also have the brown gravy, chicken gravy mix, I make the like Lipton onion soup mix, ranch seasoning mix, Italian dressing mix, and lot of dry rubs, marinade mixes, brownies, biscuit, pancake & waffle mix, a base muffin mix, cakes, cookies. They are so much cheaper and better for you when you leave out those large amounts of salt, preservatives, coloring etc. I also dehydrate rice for quick rice a roni and other uses, I keep dehydrated pinto beans after they have been cooked to make up quick refried beans instead of paying over $1 a can. I make my own sweetened condensed milk with powdered nonfat milk , sugar, butter, boiling water a smidgen of vanilla. I’m always experimenting with recipes so I don’t have to buy them from stores. I dehydrate vegetables, fruits etc, make soup mixes, pasta salad mixes. I’m wanting to get some of the freeze dried butter, eggs, vegetables and meats also. Those would really come in handy for meals in jars. Hope that gives you an idea. Be happy to share recipes.

    HAVE MISSED YOU 😊
I'M DOING THE SAME THING AS YOU ARE REGARDING LONG TERM STORAGE. MY PANTRY IS ABOUT EXHAUSTED OUT, GAVE MOST OF IT AWAY, AND I'M REPLACING WITH FREEZE DRIED STUFF, ALONG WITH CANNED MEATS & FISH, SOME RICE. KEEPING A FEW CANS OF BEANS & VEGGIES FOR SHORT TERM EMERGENCIES ( LONG POWER OUTAGES). BUT THAT'S IT. MY SON AND I HAVE BEEN EATING A PHD. WE GOT OFF THE STANDARD AMERICAN DIET 19 MONTHS AGO. LIFE CHANGING...SO NO NEED FOR ME TO KEEP A BUNCH OF TYPICAL PANTRY STAPLES/ FOODS.
ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS VERY MUCH LYNN. LOOKING FORWARD FOR THE NEXT ONE ❤

    Hi Lynn, 😊
I’m wondering what is it about Fall that attracts you and makes you want to transition into another season a month and half early.?
I want to hold on to summer and it’s long daylight hours as long as possible. The horrid heat and humidity, I can do without. 😂
I love Autumn though; leaves falling and turning into warm golden and reddish colours. Crisp weather, slightly bundled up, sitting outdoors feeling the wind on my face, listening to its sound blowing on the trees, while watching the squirrels collect their food and jumping from tree to tree.
It’s a wonderful and beautiful changing cozy time of year.
    Hope al is well.
    Take care. 😊

Powder butter is really not good for you. Most freeze dried are highly nutritious. Even though I own a freeze drier I still purchase commercial such as onions, broccoli, cabbage and the reason is those make the house stink while processing. Cannot freeze dry the carrots turn white so I still pressure can, freeze and dehydrate carrots.
