You should've kept doing what you did with the first guy, something reasonable to buy (food or whatever) and if they bought it for you, pay whatever they got for themselves and maybe $100 for their next groceries. It always warms my heart to see good and kind people being helped out. I'd much rather help and take care of the ones who deserve it.

I was in Lowe's last week trying to buy $400. worth of stuff. I had a 20% discount code. My code, and temporary shopping pass were both declined. I told the clerk I'm putting the stuff back. The guy next in line behind me stepped up and offered to pay for all my stuff. I was blown away by the generosity but the whole point of me being there was to get the 20% discount. The guy kept insisting and then he said, Oh I thought this was one of those RUclips things where I would get rewarded for helping you out.
I still don't know what to think about it. I ended up getting it straightened out and got my things the next day. It amazed me that someone was willing to put my $400. worth of items on their credit card

It's really inspiring how he even pays for the items for the people who are rude and not generous. For those people, maybe the act of generosity towards them, even when they don't "deserve" it will be enlightening on some level.
Probably some of the 'don't deserve it people' are just really struggling. I remember when money was really tough..like seriously rice every day...I was busking on the street and someone asked for $5 for a coffee. I gave it to him..but not without tears later on. Sometimes you just don't see the absolute desperation in people that are struggling.
