    I'm 90% positive it was called Vampyr instead of Vampire due to branding purposes. Googling, "Vampire" will bring up thousands of unrelated things. Branding it, "Vampyr," was strictly for search result purposes.
    Edit: lot of people pointing out that the spelling of vampire has changed over the years. I will agree that language is fluid, and constantly changing with those who speak it. That said, I think you're giving them too much credit.

    At 3:42 he actually is correct. Maybe not Wolverhampton, but the Guard of Priwen is doing massive recruitment drives all over the country and some of the collectibles show they’re having a marked success in doing so (somehow). I think all the recruits are just being funnelled into London by the Guard’s leaders because that’s where the Skal plague is centred.
    Also, another counterpoint: feeding on hostiles doesn’t give you much xp because you don’t kill them through feeding (although you can, if dedicated enough, kill a hostile exclusively with the bite attack, it only gives the xp of a regular kill) you kill them with regular attacks. I think the whole thing about macking on citizens is they give so much xp precisely because you’re taking all their blood (and possibly their soul/essence along with it). Of course they’d normally take issue with this, hence the added requirement that you need to mesmerise them in order to make sure they won’t fight back after the first bite. You don’t mesmerise the Guard’s recruits, hence the fighting back and the less xp gained (a human will typically lose consciousness at around 30-40% blood loss and die in that state without urgent medical treatment, so you’re definitely not taking all the blood the recruits have when you kill them with bites)

    it's supposed to be a wordplay on "la noire", as in the female version of le noir... i know english doesn't care about those, but just saying it's wrong before having an idea is not ideal ^^

      Yeah, except you usually would never say "la noire" in French. If you want to say "black" or even "the Black" as in "the concept of blackness" you will put it in its masculine form (le noir) and if you use it as an adjective, you would have to add what you're refferring to, as in "la chose noire" (the black thing). The only context where you would just say "la noire" would be when talking in a pretty derodatory manner about a black lady, but I seriously doubt that's what they were going for.
      Now this is all incredibly nitpicky and nobody cares about it, but it's always fun to learn about language.

    Magic is often spelled with a "k" to differentiate it from stage magic. Where "magic" is about illusion and misdirection, "magick" is the actual practice of the occult. If I recall correctly, Alistair Crowley was the first to propose this distinction.

      Video Game Close Up Then why not call it “Ekon”. If that’s the stupid name they were going to give their vampires, why not commit, and be consistent.
      Not only does it look stupid because they spelled it funny, but because they try not to refer to their vampires as vampires, so it’s pointless.

    • @tommerker8063
      @tommerker8063 6 лет назад +74

      they actualy refer to vampires as vampires, it's that ekon is a subspecies of vampire, you can call a golden retriever a dog and thats not wrong but calling him a golden retriever is not wrong either

      Its because there are many vampire species: Ekons ("higher vampire"), Skals ("lesser vampire" and failed offspirngs of ekons), Vulkod ("brutes" which share an ancient common ancestor with ekons) and apparently also Nemrods (essentially vampire-hunting vampires).

    You forgot to bring up the fact that there's no manual saves. It even tries to justify this by saying you must take responsibility for your choices. But when the dialog options are vague and misleading, which leads to a serious plot related outcome you may not have wanted and you can't load your game...well, let's just say Dr. Reid won't need to add any salt to his meals on this playthrough. And let's not forget that some people have lives and have to be places, like work or other appointments. Yeah, no manual saves is an inexcusable flaw in a game like this.

    • @BlazeBluetm35
      @BlazeBluetm35 6 лет назад +12

      Bartosz
      Understanding other people can be vague and misleading, but if you are controlling the character, you should know what you are going to say when you pick a dialogue option, word for word.

    • @Medytacjusz
      @Medytacjusz 6 лет назад +4

      Yeah you're right actually, I had the same complaint in Mass Effect and other games that compress longer statements into a single word / few words in the UI because they don't believe a player can read whole sentences. But then again I stopped caring because I realised that even if you know exactly what your char is going to say roleplaying in video games is an illusion, when it comes to dialogue systems at least.

    • @edisontrent618
      @edisontrent618 6 лет назад +3

      >roleplaying in video games is an illusion, when it comes to dialogue systems at least
      Have you ever played Fallout: New Vegas? Your dialogue options come from your characters stats (which you pick) and your characters past experiences in the game (which you are in control of as you write your own backstory, with the only detail the game forces being robbed and shot and left for dead).

    "Vampyr" is an archaic English spelling. It was more popular than the modern spelling at one time, "vampire" was an exceedingly rare word prior to modern pop-culture though so this is somewhat difficult to track. It's also how vampire is spelled in most Scandinavian languages.
    Trust me, I would know about this subject.

  • @lorcostridge2811
    @lorcostridge2811 5 лет назад +2

    I've seen quite a few critics of vampyr so far and something that they always seem to forget to mention is that you can't actually go full evil and start eating NPCs. Victims are locked behind hypnosis levels and you can only eat those that are at your level or lower. And these levels are unlocked by story progression so most of the possible victims are actually locked until you're close to finishing the game. And the few victims that are available in the first chapters give so few XP rewards that aren't really worth the effort. So playing an evil vampire is basically an impossibility.

    Vampyr is a term derived from the Greek word "vrykolakas", which is the archaic and original spelling of "Vampire", in the John Polidori story, in 1819, titled "The Vampyre". It's almost as if you could research this stuff with Google or something. Hmmmm odd, eh?
