Dear Lisa, I have followed your lessons for 7 months and you’ve made me believe that an old dog (can) learn new tricks. I’ve told you before in a previous comment that I’ve always wanted to learn to play piano. I was apprehensive because I have Shrapnel damage to my Left hand and some of my fingers aren’t able to be as flexible as I would like. It was so hard at first but you once said that I could use the finger position that works for me. So I did and it worked. Through constant practice and believing in myself I’ve not only learned to play basic melodies but my understanding of chords, notes, arpeggios and so much more is becoming second nature to me. I am so proud of my progress that as a birthday present to myself I plan to signup for your full course. I’ve just turned 61 Yrs old this month. I’m playing not for fame or to impress others, but for me and me only and I couldn’t be happier. Your enthusiasm, energy and infectious smile has made me believe in myself. Thank you so much. Kevin M. Thompson, Cincinnati, Ohio
Not sure if this helps anyone but I wrote it down: Step 1: Left hand arpeggios: - D, F#, A, D (2nd time stop at F#) - B, D, F#, B - A, C#, E, A - G, B, D, G Step 2: Right hand triad (inversions): - D major: root (D, F#, A); 1st inversion (F#, A, D): finger 2 instead of 3 and move hand forward; 2nd inversion (A, D, F#); root and back - B minor: root (B, D, F#): hand slightly forward; 1st (D, F#, B); 2nd (F#, B, D); root and back - A major: root (A, C#, E): use C# as landmark for hand movement; 1st (C#, E, A), 2nd (E, A, C#); root and back - G major: root (G, B, D), 1st (B, D, G); 2nd (D, G, B); root and back Step 3: Line up arpeggio notes with chords (first with one note per chord and finally with two notes for every chord!) Bonus: end with A and D (left) and D major (right) I’m waiting for my piano delivery (haven’t played for like 8 years) so I’m preparing my practice exercises! Thanks for the great video!
I am so glad I put so much practice in on those G inversions. Everytime I play an inversion I remember you saying how important they were going to be.... Thanks Ms.Lisa....

I played piano as a kid. Did not touch it in 15 years. This is sooo hard it is unbelievable. You are such an amazing teacher and your voice makes me not wanna give up and relearn it all ❤
An extension to this would be to reverse the hand patterns, so the right is playing the arpeggio while the left is playing the chords. Both hands should improve at various techniques.
@Matthew Philip I find I'm more commonly playing block chords in the right hand, and bass figures in the left. I just use different inversions to also reach the melody notes. That said, you always want to practice what you don't play as much. You get a lot of practice in what you do normally play. Plus, what you say is far more true of certain other styles, like jazz. My jazz chops suck because I'm so used to chording in my right hand, and being my own bass player.

I am a beginner and have tried many you tube videos. I have to say that you are the best. You explain it so good and you don't show off like some of the others. Thank you. You have made such a difference. 🎉😊
Love your explanations! You take it slow, and provide levels of practice for beginners like me, and for more advanced students. That’s what great teachers do 👌
How important is are the right-hand finger positions you show? (1-3-5, 1-2-5, 1-3-5, 1-3-5)? Is there a reason to play it like that, or can one adjust the right hand to what is comfortable for oneself?
Great Question! I was wondering the same for playing the right-hand inversions. I see why starting off with the I chord, D Maj. ( Because when doing the 1st inversion of the D chord, the F# and A are so close in proximity. But was wondering if we're to use the same position pattern for the rest of the chords vi, V, and the IV?

OK - I'll practice this every single day as soon as I work out the notes. I was given a 88 note Keyboard for Christmas and have been taking lessons on Utube, mainly your's, every day for a least an hour. You are a super teacher and make it such fun. Thank you so much Lisa & Co.. Swan
The ONE thing to practice each day... is (1) being appreciative for a teacher as wonderful as you and (2) appreciating the music that heals all who hear. A real big 💗 (........................ and one more 💗)
Really Love. Had to watch about 8 times and to create a page notating what you said/did ! I am following another program for learning through the books/songs, but this feels like it will help put the theory into my fingers.
As Lisa says Little steps can be satisfying - Gospel is easier than Boogie Woogie so pick your pieces with care, some people make a fortune out of 4 chords others enjoy the journey to higher realms 😊 Lisa took us there in 8 minutes or 30 years depending on your point of view.
I thought the same thing 2 months ago! Leave it for now, sit on the concept for a while as you practice other stuff then come back and impress yourself!!
Lisa you have always presented me with practical, easy to follow, and musically appealing exercises to help me move forward in my piano journey. Thank you for your excellent teaching ability….. Robert …. San Jose CA
I am going to work on this everyday. What a great excercise and I don't see how I wouldn't improve so I will just practice it and see what happens. Also I learned so much in this video. I really enjoy learning. So much I don't know regarding piano and music in general. Again thank you, I look forward to becoming a better student of the piano..
Nice comment, and great idea. I've been playing for 8 months and started on this exercise 7 months ago. Even if progress is slow keep doing this and once it gets easier you'll feel an improvement.
So many people love your vids Lisa! You are such a skilled and generous teacher, thank you. I am a lifetime member of your Pianote site and I love it xxxx
I am 80 years old, my hands are damaged by a fire accident, and I need a skin graft octaves are painful and i enrolled in PIANOTE because Liza ,now i am trying to learn Blues , nothing is impossible.
I'm a beginner piano player and have only been "playing" songs thru RUclips videos but I decided to up my piano game by learning proper piano chords! So glad I found this and will be practicing this everyday!
Great lesson...wow it incorporates a lot so this will make us better. For inversions - the NOTE of the chord is always played with either the thumb (root of the chord) pinkie (1st inversion) or the middle finger (2nd inversion) This really will help, especially when you have to just use one inversion and not start with the root. Then the other fingers drop down.
Who are these 102 people giving this marvellous stuff a thumbs-down? Why even do that? If it's not your thing, just move on. Why be like that? It's not like there's anything offensive here. Puzzled.
Some people just want to see the world burn. This was maybe recommended and they disliked it because piano is not their thing and they hope it will go away. The majority of negativity about is not a reflection of the person or content we think it’s related to. The negativity is usually a reflection of the way the person giving the negativity feels about themselves or has failed to realise about themselves. 102 people either don’t want this content or need some help to be happier.
Liking *or* disliking a video is better for the content creator than moving on without a rating. The RUclips algorithm cares about engagement as a whole, so even an extremely disliked video will make money.
Just started learning and have got to say, this is a fantastic channel! All the rest seem intent on findings cheats around ACTUALLY playing and teaching beginners like me (super slow lol). This is now on my ‘to practice everyday’. Thank you
I’m a super beginner, and not the youngest in the bunch. And so, “THIS” Every Single Day Practice was awesome to find!!! Love the way you teach. Thank you kindly.
More PraCtice ahaha😂 Great video! Yep this is particularly useful when 95% of contemporary songs are based on chords I, IV, V and vi😀 Definitely getting the most bang for your buck with your exercise tips here
This is exactly what I need to practice and finally found a video to teach me this. I was playing basic chords like how you were playing in your worship songs. I think this will be a great building blocks step in learning to play more "fancy" ;)
Third time's a charm. I see that I need to pratice this every day. I'm starting on Bach and his C Major Prélude and would like to thank you for all you've done to help me on this journey.
I really liked the lesson and will begin applying it. Thank you for your engaging, enthusiastic, and joyful teaching. It was entertaining on many levels.
Hello. I’m new to your channel and I’m 10 but I’ve been playing piano since I was 6. I live piano, so to new beginners I really recommend one thing: Never give up if you fail; And always work hard to achieve your dreams. My dream is to become a pianist! Thank you Lisa for the lesson because I really enjoyed playing the arapeggios with you :D 😃 I will show this to my friends who also play piano 🎹:))))
Wow... this looks like this covers a lot of things .Look like I have homework. I like it because seems challenging, interesting and fun and once done I should be on another level of being a beginner.
I've had a Yamaha electronic keyboard for over twenty years (and never used?!). I keep it next to my desk and dust it off regularly, but just looked at it longigly. The other week I happened across your basic scales video and was inspired to give it a go - finally. Its only been about two weeks, but I've stuck to the mantra of "a little every day" and am encouraged by the progress I've made, so far (still working on smooth scales). Thank you for your very "approachable" style/nature. If I can get through a month, I think I'll be good to go.
Lisa!!!!! I just got my first breakthrough on hand independence by following this video's instructions! Just now. Thanks a lot! I just would remind my fellow learners not to jump to two hands right away. I am learning music theory from Andrew Furmanczyk's youtube videos but I get my piano practice pointers from Lisa from Pianote.
@@dmtripreport8542 I think your comment worths millions : why teachers coaches forget often to give time schedule to reach a certain level . I struggle to bring both hands together because my brain is not used to it : A / to make my hands work independently !!! B / capture 2 different melodies at the same time but I need to give my brain enough time to reach that level and that step varies for each of us but with persistence and motivation I should succeed !! Is that challenge which motivates me the most at the moment !! I studied many years at university to gains degrees .. I am impressed that does nt help me to play with my 2 hands but I know , learning piano enhances for sure my brain physiology and neurology !!! worth it 💯 % !!! Lets do it ! Thanks again ! 🙏🏾🙏🏾👨🏾⚕️
@@Kassiusday I give that time frame as the point where you will have less 'nervous fingers", and things start to move more smoothly. The best piece of advice I got when starting out was not to think of it as two hands working independently, but 10 fingers working together. The first two handed song I could do was the amalie song, and it will definitely give your left hand a workout. If I could go back in time I would probably just drill cannon in D with each hand and slowly put it together(also learn the right hand part with the left hand, great exercise for all the fingers), seems to be one of the songs that really breaks open the mind when trying to use both hands together, I still don't have it perfect.
@@dmtripreport8542 thank you very much is there any other instrument a part drum where hands should reach that coordinate independent skill Found teaches coaches do no insist enough about that challenge specially when starting as adult ! You always learned to do everything with your 2 hands synchronised closely !! Once I thought gosh ! is like playing my bass guitar one hand and the other one my guitar at the same time !! But is exactly that challenge which motivates me to hold on ! Despite frustration !! I should have started piano long time ago ... but bass has always been my beloved instrument ... but now older I am passionate by musical theory chords harmonic etc and piano is the greatest instrument to learn all of that .!! I planning to organise my life around that aim as hobby will wake up early to train ... travel with a 66 keys etc will see where I stand in 5 years and 10 years ! Cheers ! 🥂
I can finally do 8-key scales with both hands at 80bpm without screwing up! I've gone my entire life believing I simply can't play instruments. Been practicing a lot of the beginner stuff y'all recommend, and it's beginning to feel comfortable, I want to step outside those boundaries and push things, mix things up, and this is perfect. It's just the right amount of theory and practice. I busted out my notebook and am taking notes on what to practice day to day.
Just started playing ,do an hour a day, I'm up to old mac donald, wonder how long its gonna take to get to this level!? I'm figuring a couple of years.
Well finally another daily practice for me, I’m stuck n start to get bored with my daily routine lol will try em tomorrow I promise bcoz tonight I’m not feeling it 🤭😬

did you notice the additional pattern she slipped in there? Sounded really nice too. 0:25
Lisa, you're one of my favorite piano teacher on RUclips. I'm so glad I discovered this channel. 🥰
I love this practice routine!! I'm getting the hang of it. Thank you!
Same here 😀
I Absolutely Love this channel. Lisa is an Amazing teacher.
I love how every time you tell us about ways to improve, you also show us how to do it. Everything is explained very well. I have watched several videos now, each time I learn something new and you are so entertaining. I am actually excited to practice everyday.
A beautiful teacher with a beautiful attitude always happy and smiling❤
You’re so inspiring & delightfully joyous in the pursuit of piano/music magic. Thankyou 🙏
Yes SHAPES 1,3,5. 1,2,5. For all chords…….and inversions omg…..a lot of chord theory and great lesson. Thank you!
Thank you!! You're really helping me gain more discipline and control over my practice, I'm always excited to practice after watching your videos:))
You just pull it off like it’s nothing and I’m here sitting and thinking, “Yeah, this is gonna take an eternity and a half to actually do.”
As Lisa says Little steps can be satisfying - Gospel is easier than Boogie Woogie so pick your pieces with care, some people make a fortune out of 4 chords others enjoy the journey to higher realms 😊 Lisa took us there in 8 minutes or 30 years depending on your point of view.
same bro
Have a little faith in yourself and give it a try for a few minutes a day. You may surprise yourself!
Robert …. San Jose CA
Absolutely delightful presentation I am going to do this immediately,
You are so relatable. I honestly can’t wait to start working on this with you.
So appreciative of your tutorials. Thank you. Going to sign up for lesson program.
How are you getting on with it?
So many people love your vids Lisa! You are such a skilled and generous teacher, thank you. I am a lifetime member of your Pianote site and I love it xxxx
How can I get the piano sheet of this appergio?
*arpeggio
Thank you for this lovely piano exercises and easy to follow pieces. This truly boosts my confidence👏
Great exercise I love learning new exercises to include into practice that help focus on different techniques. Keep up the amazing work.
@@addictedfoolgamer1970 I suspect you're right.
I think most of the thumb down people are just jealous of this piano teacher because of her talent. It's just annoying.
Coz they can’t play
Liking *or* disliking a video is better for the content creator than moving on without a rating. The RUclips algorithm cares about engagement as a whole, so even an extremely disliked video will make money.
Just started learning and have got to say, this is a fantastic channel! All the rest seem intent on findings cheats around ACTUALLY playing and teaching beginners like me (super slow lol).
This is now on my ‘to practice everyday’.
Thank you
at 0:28 I felt like watching the UEFA Champions League lol
I’m a super beginner, and not the youngest in the bunch. And so, “THIS” Every Single Day Practice was awesome to find!!! Love the way you teach. Thank you kindly.
It’s like learning piano from Meg Ryan.
Spot on
Bless you lady. Love your love for music.
More PraCtice ahaha😂 Great video! Yep this is particularly useful when 95% of contemporary songs are based on chords I, IV, V and vi😀 Definitely getting the most bang for your buck with your exercise tips here
Glad its helping you out :)
So I can choose any note, make the progression and do the same exercise?
Love all you do and so happy to see Sangha Noona on your channel!
This is exactly what I need to practice and finally found a video to teach me this. I was playing basic chords like how you were playing in your worship songs. I think this will be a great building blocks step in learning to play more "fancy" ;)
This is so absolutely brilliant. I'm on this and will soon be attempting to transpose it. Thank you. From South Africa!!!
I just need ‘more pratice”. 😉 She’s a great piano teacher, who makes learning very interesting.
Don't you know pratice make pefect?
Bet that was on purpose!
I saw that right away!!
Good Idea Gbu.
There's an edit button 🤣
Third time's a charm. I see that I need to pratice this every day. I'm starting on Bach and his C Major Prélude and would like to thank you for all you've done to help me on this journey.
I really liked the lesson and will begin applying it. Thank you for your engaging, enthusiastic, and joyful teaching. It was entertaining on many levels.
Omg I love it ❤
This really make me realise about the song I love 😊
Hello. I’m new to your channel and I’m 10 but I’ve been playing piano since I was 6. I live piano, so to new beginners I really recommend one thing:
Never give up if you fail;
And always work hard to achieve your dreams. My dream is to become a pianist! Thank you Lisa for the lesson because I really enjoyed playing the arapeggios with you :D 😃 I will show this to my friends who also play piano 🎹:))))
Love the glasses Lisa and all your wonderful videos. You are my favorite instructor by far. Tysvm. ❤
Wow... this looks like this covers a lot of things .Look like I have homework.
I like it because seems challenging, interesting and fun and once done I
should be on another level of being a beginner.
You got this! 🧠🔨
If I can get through a month, I think I'll be good to go.
i can extend this to seventh chords and get a rhythm of 4/4. Very helpful!
I was thinking the same thing. Lol.
ooo good idea!
Lisa!!!!! I just got my first breakthrough on hand independence by following this video's instructions! Just now. Thanks a lot!
I just would remind my fellow learners not to jump to two hands right away.
I am learning music theory from Andrew Furmanczyk's youtube videos but I get my piano practice pointers from Lisa from Pianote.
me before i started to play piano: look so fun i will play so many songs!
me after 1 month : 95% do practice 5% play kids songs
TAOISM : “a journey of 1000 miles starts with the first step !!! “
Give it about 8-9 months and you'll be good
@@dmtripreport8542 I think your comment worths millions : why teachers coaches forget often to give time schedule to reach a certain level . I struggle to bring both hands together because my brain is not used to it :
A /
to make my hands work independently !!!
B / capture 2 different melodies at the same time
but I need to give my brain enough time to reach that level and that step varies for each of us but with persistence and motivation I should succeed !!
Cheers ! 🥂
I’m a new learner and can’t wait to master this!!
Thank you!
fact: This is the BEST piano channel on RUclips
oh wow thank you for the likes im flabbergasted
And the cutest Piano Mentor
You'd be surprised how quickly you get better when you dedicate one hour a day.
I’ve been playing 2 years. Love learning, playing and now finally performing. Thanks for sharing.
as a beginner, The practice is sooo good that makes my brain say ""yooo dude give me a break".
Thanks for these precious pieces of advice and for your lovely enthusiasm!
@Soulful Notes i'd love to, thanks 😉
Girl this is so much stuff to learn, and that never happens! THIS IS SO USEFUL!
My granddaughter loves your videos! You are teaching her a lot ! Thank you so much!
Well finally another daily practice for me, I’m stuck n start to get bored with my daily routine lol will try em tomorrow I promise bcoz tonight I’m not feeling it 🤭😬
Okay but I trust you will get right on this when you can :P!
LOL I have so many practices I don't get time to play!! Hmmmmm
Wow, LOVE THIS!!! Thanks, Lisa!! Best channel for piano by far!!!
