  • The Government of Fiji deployed a 33-member team to provide surge support to the New Zealand Government in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle in February last year.
The group was deployed to support the New Zealand National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Wellington, the NZ Defence Force (NZDF) and the NZ Fire Service with response and recovery works in the Hawkes Bay region.
In recognition of their contributions, the team which comprised 5 officials from the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), 26 from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), and 3 from the National Fire Authority (NFA) was presented with a coin each by the NZ Minister for Emergency Management, Hon. Kieran McAnulty, during his visit to Suva in August 2023.
