It’s Christmas Eve.
One of the most famous cathedrals in Seoul holds many annual events at this particular time of year.
Our Kim Jung-sil is standing by to update us on how the holiday celebrations are going.
Jungsil, please tell us what you see.
Merry Christmas Eve, Daniel!
I'm at Myeongdong Cathedral in downtown Seoul.
The cathedral is a symbol of the Catholic Church here in Korea.
It is also well-known as one of the must-visit spots during Christmas.
So naturally, many have come here to enjoy Christmas eve despite the cold weather.
One of the events that took place in the afternoon was a play based on a short story by Leo Tolstoy.
The play, "Where Love Is, God Is," is performed by three actors at the Família Chapel from 4 p.m., and up to 150 people can enjoy the play without reservations.
And the Christmas market has been ongoing since this morning before the crowds showed up.
But now, many people are lining up to take pictures in front of the Christmas tree near the market.
The same tree’s bottom half was undecorated earlier, but now it's completely covered with ornaments people bought for charity.
A lot going on over there.
So what's different from last year's Christmas Eve?
And what else can visitors look forward to?
Yes, Daniel.
This year, there won't be any limitation on the number of people attending the Christmas mass scheduled for midnight.
So already, there are hundreds of people going in and out of the area every minute.
Last year, only 400 people attended due to COVID-19 restrictions, but this year, a maximum of 1,200 people can attend the Christmas mass.
And that's not just for Myeongdong Catholic church either; Christian churches will also allow any number of people into their Christmas services this year.
And later in the night, from around 11:50 p.m., right before the Christmas mass, Archbishop Chung Soon-Taick will bring baby Jesus into the manger display right in front of the Cathedral.
The Archdiocese of Seoul spokesperson said anyone is welcome to attend the Christmas mass, and for those who only speak in English, an English mass will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m.
That's all I have for today; back to you, Daniel.
Thank you, Jungsil for being out there for us in this freezing weather.
Quickly go some place warm and have a Merry Christmas.

merry christmas!
I think this news should have been broadcasted yesterday morning? Christmas Eve was 2 days ago. Boxing day is almost over already. Arirang news is usually very reliable and broadcasts relevant news on time. For the past month quite a bit of the news is quite late though, e.g the world cup soccer game scores (2 days after the time). I really am a huge Arirang news supporter and hope that this is just a temporary problem that will be solved quickly. Getting local news in English is a great privilege. So, thanks to everyone who makes this possible to foreigners living in Korea... Is there any chance of sorting out this small glitch?
