Thanks for your reaction and rating, the old man's story is the total truth. I had heard it before and is on my Spotify play list, but I had never "heard it" before. I met my Ann in high school in 1967 and we married in 1969, she went on her journey after a long fight with cancer and thirteen months and two days of hospice care, in 2023. I am living the old man's story. For me I was not prepared, it is like lousing your arm and leg and an eye in an accident. There is a wound that time can't erased. I am thankful for our long life together. Another song to follow up with, I Will Never Not Remember You by Cooper Alan. These are timeless songs!
'
“Gorgeous” is the word that describes this classic. That Voice! Those lyrics! Beautiful.
The voice...anything he sings is gold. Vern hits the chorus and the chills starts! I was young but if I remember correctly, this was the title of the album. My parents had every Vern and Watson album so yea, memories of music I was raised on.
This man is fabulous. Again a great talent going relatively into the background of country music. It's a shame.
Should have done Been in the country music hall of fame.
9.2 out of 10! That is not only impressive but well warranted! One of my all-time favorite tunes by one of the greatest singers ever!
I really like you. You have such a kind heart. Thank you for that. This song was co-written by Vern Gosdin and Max D. Barnes. "The iconic chorus is based on the true story of Max D. Barnes and his family, who lost their 18-year-old son and brother, Butch, in an auto accident in 1975."
@jeansalzman2.012 Thank you for the kind words, Jean, and welcome aboard the channel!
You got the message! A classic song by a great “voice.”
Brought me to tears... I hadn't thought about this song in years.. We lost our daughter and 2 years and 4 days later, my husband was called home. We were exactly 1 month away from 38 years of marriage. Lonely is tough.
Been there. Still doing that. It's not gone till it's gone. Then it's gone forever.
Was going to request this one, but I should have known you'd already reacted to it. I still enjoyed it! Thanks Don!
If I were to ever have written a song, this would be it. I can relate since my wife's name has been chiseled in stone 8 years now.
@Gary Guinn Ouch, I'm so sorry you've had to live without her. I can't imagine. Just can't.
Oh my gosh. It's been a long time since I've heard this song. Talk about a lonely image "Chiseled in Stone". And that voice. Thanks Don.
Why can't we see tears from these reactions!!??!!
@Tracey Cater I came close in one of my reactions (“Broken Halos” by Chris Stapleton), otherwise I hold it together.
Verns backup vocals were off the chart. I have that voice and love to sing along with Vern.
I love Vern, and I have always loved this song!
One piece of advice I would give to a younger couple... It took me a long time to learn not to threaten things I didn't mean. In arguments I would threaten divorce, and I eventually realized that was never what I wanted and that things would be okay after the argument was over. Once I learned that, I never threatened divorce again, and learned to "fight fair."
It is a tear jerker
Again Don great reaction and rating and your words were heartfelt.
You are changing his-story💞💯
True story. Loved Vern.
love Vern great singer
Love this song
Don, you hit the nail right on the head, when you are standing there in front of a tombstone, looking at the name of someone you loved more than life, then you truly know lonely. Life is so short, live love and enjoy each and every moment you are here on this earth!
Yep sad but so true whether it's wife,or not family dying really can get to you. Another super great review and u done it.when very few would, very few like to do sad true song but YOU Don't 💯 percent is my comment 4 you the reviewer. U Rock 😄
CMA Song of the Year! Vern didn’t attend because he was uses to not winning (his words).
This song was always one of my favorites. Little did I know I would lose my wife and be living this song in real life. Believe me I have so many unsaid words with my wife. If you feel it say it. Don't make the mistake I did
Same here in 99
@@victoriarachelle89 I'm sorry for you're loss
@@warrenburlingame7087 ty. Been almost 22 yrs but seems like yesterday. Conway and merle haggard pulls me through.todays so called country is music to my ears.
@@victoriarachelle89 yes I lean on the legends also
The VOICE!!!
The final line Vern sings, (done in acapella) just stabs the message home. Thanks so much for doing this song. This song has a story for me. Short version was my flashlight was needed to get Vern off a stage. Manager said last song is CHISELED IN STONE. I didn't know the song and was out front with crowd not paying lots of attention to lyrics as people were talking to me. All of a sudden I hear final line and I had to bee line to back stage steps with my flashlight. Great concert and memories. #RIP Vern.
Vern had a song 'Mother Country Music' which expresses what country music means to him.
Thank you for a great review. I just subscribed to your channel and found that your a breath of fresh air. I’ve been listening to country music for sometime and will probably till I pass. I’m from Canada and we do have a lot of great singers as well and in saying that I’d like to recommend a singer Smiley Bates. The song I’d like you to react to is called Golden Guitar. Thank you
@James Marcellais Welcome aboard the channel! I'll add the song to the list, but please be patient with me since the list is long. :-)
RockN2Country awesome thanks for the reply and the heads up on the long wait. Will sit back and listen to more of your reacts
Great song. Spot-on reaction. Two other songs by Vern Gosdin that you should react to are as follows;
Do You Believe Me Now
Today My World Slipped Away
Both written about relationships that Vern went through, so they were very personal to him, and you can tell by the emotions you can hear in each song.
They don't make music like this any more . And I miss it
Mr gosdin.. knows the BIRDS
This one will always be a 10
For December: Merle Haggard's, If We Make It Through December. Thanks.
Also, Conway Twitty: Touch The Hand. Please & Thank you.
Listen to Cal Smith’s “girl on the billboard “
REALLY.
and I know about chiseled in stone
dont know how spiritual you are but vern had gospel song called (precious jesus hold my hand ) even if your not into gospel it a great song. new sub. glad i found you. great song selections. and the best thing about it is no rap or hip hop or any of that garbage. just real music with real musicians
I don't think you over did it. And I think you're right about divorce.
I look at divorce not as an ending "which it is" but as a new beginning.
find a song called See The Big Man Cry
I am going to recommend " North To Alaska" Johhny Horton. It is time for you to get to rockabilly music.
Old Country, this new Pop Country is just noise...3 chords and the Truth, with a violin and a steel guitar!
Maybe sometime you could react to Trisha Yearwood “ The Song Remembers When” says so well, how a song will take you back... whether you want to go or not.
Fake Voice vs Real Voice 💕💞💯💦
Emotional? Get out the Kleenex!!
Go home and fight for her.
One of the all time classics!
Try That Just About Does It or This Ain't My First Rodeo. This is great.
Vern gosdin, kieth Whitley, and earl Thompson conley are my favorite voices in country music
His music is timeless
I remember this song from when I was a kid. He's always been one of my favorites. You nailed this reaction.
@Carla Huff Thank you for the encouragement. :-)
Great rating,Vern Gosdin to me is the voice, always loved his music and was a sad day when he passed,, his music will live forever and he had so many great songs and I thank you for sharing this song with us and as always"Howdy"
Great reaction. He has so many songs I know you would like.
This is one of Vern Gosdins many greatest songs , he was one of my favorites.. definitely a tear jerker.
This song is a 10. 💕
10? Isn't that on the low side?
Today My World Slipped Away by Vern Gosdin. Written after he went thru a divorce. Also Do You Believe Me Now.
Just lov his voice and this song. His nickname is perfect. Great song great reaction great chann. Fun day.thankx again don… dan..3/01/22
Man Vern, is in the same category as George Jones, when it comes to song's that just pulls at your heart, he's great that about all you can say. Thanks for the reaction
My favorite Vern Gosdin song is "That Just About Does it".
His best. I still can't finish listening to it, not with a dry eye
The ' chiseled in stone ' is his woman's name on her headstone.
The stone he refers to is his wife's headstone.
That why they call him the voice
It's an interesting technique that we are left to fill in all the details of what the old man told him that made such an impact and drove home the meaning of the woman in his life. As the old fella once told me, "This ain't no dress rehearsal".
Well, Vern, you DID grab our hearts with this great song. Many years following your sad passing, this song still awakes us when we listened to it: THE single greatest song Ever! Forever Vern!!!
The Garden. By Vern is an awesome song. Actually anything he sung was great.
Lost my husband 49 yrs , 2019, he really liked Vern, , and I like ray price ,
I never heard this before. I like it.
Hey Don! You've been doing some great singers lately. Loving it!
You could have been born 1,000 years ago but you were lucky enough in your tiny speck of eternity to hear this.
Your win the interwebs today!
Here's one you probably never heard of: the Burch Sisters and " Everytime You Go Outside" I Hope It Rains "
Another good reaction to a great classic that didn't seem to get deserved radio time. Don, I would love to see a reaction from George Jones, (Our Bed of Roses), the yt channel, (tkirby66) has an awesome video on it...
This song reminds me of a Randy Travis song. "A Man Ain't Made Of Stone". Great song.
Yes, that is exactly what the old man was saying. My brother lost his first wife by a car accident at age 25, and he lost his second to of natural causes . I lost two wives by divorce, but i didn't have to go through anything like he did. Vern Gosdin had a way of making you listen and understand. Thanks for playing these great old songs. Please play some even older country. The stories are what makes country music good. Thanks again.
Check out Vern Gosdins song I Wonder Where We’d Be Tonight.
If a person can listen to Vern and not have their heart ripped out by the feeling, well, I just don't trust that person.
It's a real heart breaker for sure. I can't listen to it all the way through.
I like the part of this song where the young man follows the advice that was given to him by the old man and picks up some flowers and goes back home to his wife. It was a very sad song and yet it had a happy ending because he went back to her. Vern sure did earn the title of "The Voice".
Has nothing too so with age.
Nothing like " THE VOICE"
When Vern was alive he had a Facebook page. He would post his gems of wisdom.
Listen to The Statler Brothers song Bed of Roses
Great song. Here's another great Vern Gosdin song - Right In The Wrong Direction.
Had the HONOR TO MEET VERN YRS AGO & THE NICESTR MAN
This mama bear thanks you 😘❤💕💞
For those who don't get it, the stone is her tombstone.
Yes, it's her headstone.
'The Voice'
Thank you
Colter Wall Bob Fudge
alan chappell yes!! That song is great!! And CW delivery is extraordinary
The last verse tears me up. The old man's line about loneliness being chiseled in stone hits close to home. My wife has stage 4 lung and brain cancer, and the old man could be me.
@Jeff Tappan Ouch man, I'm so sorry you and your wife are both dealing with this. It's brutal, and no doubt more difficult for you since she's your wife. I took care of my mother in Florida for two years while she was dying of lung cancer, as I didn't want her dying in a nursing home so I left New Jersey and went down and took care of her in her home. Got back to Jersey a year and a half ago and parts of it still mess with me a bit, but that's to be expected. And she was 82, and as much as it sucked all the way around, when someone makes it into their 80's it isn't as hard as someone who's younger or who you are/were married to. Thanks for posting, you're always welcome here.
Could be the best love song ever written sang by one of the greatest voices of all times🖤
Still true. I lost my husband several years ago. I still miss him. Take care and treat loved ones like it is the last time you'll see them because "God Forbid" that could happen. Love them with all you have and make life count. Too soon they can be gone.
Red Sovine. TEDDY BEAR
@Robbie Cousins Oh yeah, I did that one a while ago and it is one of my highest rated vids. Welcome aboard the channel!
Oh BTW still want to recommend old Elijah by iron horse. A great story but a sad one. I think you and your subs would like the song and love the story
Cut! Like all his other tunes! Great old country music
Such a good song 💓

So many songs in this style by Vern. I love the harmonies that emphasize certain words. So nicely done. The good news in this song is, the guy got the message. He went home repaired his relationship before his regret was chiseled in a tombstone. Probably an 8.3 I'm guessing. ..lol
Do you believe me now? Another good one by Vern.
Oh! You suprized me. I'm glad you placed so much value on the concept and message of the song.
I tried to guess your rating and I sold you short. You got this one perfectly. I love the music from this guy and this era.
Haven't commented in a while. Been in the hospital last couple of months with congestive heart failure. Came home last week to my wife saying she wanted a divorce. I'm feeling the heartache now for sure.
I AM SO SAD FOR YOU. WHY WOULD SHE DO THAT NOW
@@pattricayoung9646 Don't know. She said she was tired of being a caregiver. I feel like there's more but she won't talk to me at all.
SHE HAS FORGOT THE VOWS SHE MADE .IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH. BUT THERE IS NO EXCUSES FOR WHAT SHE IS DOING TOO YOU. AND ONE DAY SHE WILL KNOW HOW WRONG SHE WAS. PLEASE TAKE CARE BE STRONG . AND MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU.🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅
@@pattricayoung9646 i agree. In my opinion maybe it's for the best. Someone eho will do this right after you get out of the hospital before Thanksgiving isn't someone i really want to grow old with.
THE LIFE WE HAVE IS SHORT. SOME TIMES IT BEST TOO LET GO . LOOK TOO HAPPY AND YOU WILL BE . THANKS FOR THE FEED BACK TAKE CARE .😛😛😛😛
