I will try the technique of pinching back the new shoots to stimulate back buds. That has been my problem with Alberta Spruce, so thanks for the tip, and Merry Christmas Nigel.
This is a great looking spruce after the pruning. I bet with some mini lights on it and some snow outside on the bottom for a nice Christmas tree. Merry Christmas to you and Laura and family. Enjoy your morning coffee, Christmas Morning, with Laura.
When I was younger I didn't like Spruce bonsai trees .I didn't know what people see on them. Now I have totally different look on Spruce bonsai trees. And Marry Christmas Nigel.
This reminds me of my dwarf Alberta spruce that I pruned years ago when it was dying back hard... except I pruned it (cluelessly) into the style of an Austrian pine. Considering how many Alberta spruce's are out there and how few Austrian pines remain relatively, it was a happy accident! Happy holiday to you Nigel, and all the folks that are reading!
A very Merry Christmas to you and your family Nigel! Thank you so much for such a great year of bonsai learning. I really appreciate the variety of your content. Your spruce is looking awesome after its winter prune. Wishes of joy for 2025!
It’s really refreshing to see conifer bonsai with straight well proportioned trunks. I always see traditional pine bonsai with thick, curved trunks with extreme taper but I have never seen one in nature this way. Trees in Minnesota look much more similar to yours.
Your spruce looks great Nigel. Merry Christmas!!

Hy Nigel, is it an épicéa conica glauga in latin word ? Happy Xmas...
You sent a mixed message to the male cat and to Joan. You were too welcoming, in front of Joan, to him. More kittens? Has Joan had a trip to the Vet?
Please, could you put more light when doing the video ? Thank you
Foist...
Nice!!!
