I love ONAF to this day BECAUSE of the mechanics, and the silly nature. I feel like the fact that there's only two, makes it even more unique. You didn't go for the "listen to the followers and make 69 more sequels" approach, you did what you wanted! I'm glad you haven't fallen into making more sequels because "its what the fans wanted" and I'm glad the games exist to begin with! Hopefully things go well for you, and I hope you're staying safe, healthy, and happy! :)
Honestly, your "no lore" approach to game design is probably my favorite game design choice I've seen in a while. It may not be as practical to use with other kinds of games, but abstract art is muh jam. You do you.
Honestly man, this is completely respectable. If anything, I just want to see more funny animations/sketches with Flumpty and Blam. They always make me laugh and really that's all that matters to me. Hell, even then, I just want to see what else you create. Can't Food was brilliant and you are obviously a very gifted game designer. At the end of the day, what you do is in your hands, not ours.
I've heard of the 1st Flumpty game and that's it. Never cared about, never looked into it, never really thought about it unless it popped up, you know? I've never been into FNAF, though I do respect Scott for the work he's put into them, but this video almost peaked my interest into your game. It seems silly and just a fun weird game. To me, you're not only the guy who made the Riddle School series, possibly my favorite point-and-click escape room game series, but a game designer/developer that's created some other fun and neat 2D hand-drawn games I have fun playing. Thank you so much. You're an inspiration and a reminder that you can still create fun 2D games, hand-drawn or not.
To me Flumpty's lore is tied to the context of our existence. As in, the "story" and reason for flumpty is very literal; that he's a cartoon figure, made by you, and here I am playing the game made by you, with flumpty who can and will do whatever he wants in this context. My suspension of disbelief playing the nights is more akin to "what if I was really and truly was somehow dragged into the chaos and uncertainty of this lore-less no-reason cartoon". And it's a nightmare, and it's exciting, it's brilliant.
I remember all of this stuff from your creator commentaries. Also, I grew up with the Riddle School series so I want you to be happy as well dude. You are incredible!
I think people love your series so much just cuz the characters are honestly really fun and funny. Honestly another little comic series starring Blam and Flumpty like in those animations would be nice. At least, that’s how I feel.
It was cool that you came back to make this video, and explained this. It's cool that you didn't force yourself to put lore in and did what you felt like doing.
I just love watching your developer commentaries. You made my childhood and I thank you for that. I'll try to pursue my dream of game design and drawing. I can't thank you enough your an inspiration to me jonochrome.
To be honest, back when ONAF2 was still big, what I always wanted, instead of like, "BIG LOAR GAME BIG ENDING TO BIG SERIES YES", was just, more Flumpty in general. Hearing about the origins of Flumpty as a comic series and seeing the surviving pieces was great. It was the kind of usage of the characters that I expected out of this rogues gallery of whatever. I like the whole idea of a higher power meta egg man, a square eternal birthday boy straightman, his dapper kinda future self that collects hats that also wants to kill him no matter how much of a paradox it is, and the band of other monstrous weirdos. I like how most of the plot's "depth" includes finding someone's "sense of direction" represented by a giant cartoon arrow. Good horror is one thing and so is good gameplay, but damn did always like the whole concept of Flumpty. It's the kind of humor I like.
i find it funny how you were able to give a better explanation of a comic series and 2 and a half games, than scott cawthon has given from over 10 games, a book series, and a movie.
ONAF Headcanon of mine Flumpty Bumpty after being told by an old lady ,who was secretly an illegal drum (not drug) dealer, that he piled up dirt on already burried Blam and Kevin Jr., he dug them out and used his powers of plot immunity to revive them. He then found out about a new game that took over RUclips called Sixty nine Nights at Finkledad's. He then wanted to parody it. Thus, he started One Night at Flumpty's. He then forced Blam to get some actors or he was gonna make it no longer his birthday. So Blam got a constipated beaver, a homeless clown he found at the street named Grunkfus, and he encountered the infamous Florida Man that drank lava and lived kinda. When Blam got back, Flumpty entroduced his newest creation, Golden Flumpty to Blam. Golden Flumpty was made by Flumpty reversing Gru's shrink ray after stealing it, kidnapping the goose that lays golden eggs, and then getting the egg that the goose lays. He then proceeded to kill someone because he felt like it. But then he realized, he can get a soul for the golden egg he got for no reason. So he got the soul of his latest victim (who is actually a serial killer) and put it in the golden egg. Flumpty then grabbed a hammer and smashed holes in the golden egg for the mouth and eyes. He then grabbed a giant pencil he got from literally nowhere in the universe and drew limbs for the golden egg because he was inspired by this cool guy named Jonochrome drawing comics of him. So then he started a series on his newly made RUclips channel. He then got bored and decided to recreate them in real life, so he started kidnapping people and killed all of them with the help of the beaver, Grunkfus, Blam, and Golden Flumpty. Eventually it is revealed that Flumpty is a simp, the character you play as in the first game is Belle Delphine. Flumpty doesn't teleport in the office because he's a simp and doesn't wanna have to kill her. So then Bele Delphine survives and then Flumpty and Belle become best friends, Blam becomes enraged by Kevin Jr. and kills her in a hissy fit, which is out of character for him but who cares. And the person you play as in the second game is Pokimane, and as for the location, Flumpty hijacked a MARVEL Studios recording studio and decorated it to his own liking. As of for Eyesore, he's just a colony of Belle Delphine's germs in her bath water, Flumpty put the eyes of his past victims on Eyesore because he can and will. Oh and the Dr. Mario head in the first game, it's just Dr. Amigo's head And the Luigi corpse in the second game, it's just a bootleg ragdoll he bought off eBay because Flumpty is too afraid to actually fight the Mario Bros..
I love that there isn’t a definitive lore because like you said we get to creat our own fiction surrounding the characters, and I always find that enjoyable :)
I kinda like the dynamic of the dev trying to make the most nonsensical story ever, and the fans trying to make sense of it. It's silly and chaotic and I love it.
Thank you so much for clearing things up for the fans!! Im excited to see what they come up with since you have essentially given us free reign over what happens next in the nonexistent lore. Lets fill thaf box up fellas!!
I didn't even find this channel through ONAF, I found it through Cant Food, which is the best thing ever btw, then I was like "oh this guy also made flumpty's, thats pretty cool". I think that it fits perfectly with the game to not have lore, its great XD.
I honestly think it's better you dont force yourself to make another flumpty game so that instead of giving us like 50 sequals where most people will only like half of them, we get 2 FANTASTIC fan-games people can look back on as being amazing games with great art and music!
As someone who loved the one night at flumpty's games, i had figured there was no lore, and loved how silly the games were, with the different character poses, random dead childhood characters, and just the sheer nonsense. And, to be honest, i'm kinda glad one week at flumpty's never came to fruition, as that kinda defeats the whole unique gameplay one night at flumpty's had, as in, it was one night. But, with how much i loved the two games that came out, i can't help but desire a third game, one with just as much nonsense, just about no lore to be found, and just as fun as the other two, but as you are the creator, and as i do not wish to bother you as much as some have in the past, i will leave this as a possibility, rather than a suggestion, and thank you for the games that have already been made
theory time: when you die and your eyes are prepared like eggs, flumpty hot glues them back together and puts them on the eyesaur because he hasn't anything better to do
Love this explanation. I have to say though, we don’t remember this game fondly just because of Fnaf. This is TIMELESS it feels so iconic and unique in its own right.
So, head canons are now canon, but can be retconned. Neat. I do love these creepy yet funny characters you made and how it impacted the FNaF community as one of the best fan games ever made about an egg that has god powers and wants to be your friend by risking death with his other friends. It cool series.
Little fanmade backstory for Flumpty: Flumpty was a normal egg dude, but accidentally got cracked open one afternoon. Suddenly, a chaos Demon came out of nowhere and decided, "I'mma go inside that yolk and see what happens," and then when the chaos Demon possessed Flumpty's yolk, Flumpty was reborn and became who we know him as today.
Ohh I didn't even know about the comics or your friends! This all makes much more sense now to me, thank you. I appreciate your honesty about it not having lore, afterall not everything needs an explanation. :]
Honestly I think you do great when you make games that focus on gameplay with comedic writing. I can't wait to see what you do next, no matter what it is.
Would love to see more Flumpty videos or games, but only if it is enjoyable for you as well as us! I like how the first 2 games were made, with its own running gags and rules.
Expanding on the retcon point, I think that if you do end up changing your mind, I'd say completely reboot and rebuild a story around these base characters that you already have. Completely disregard ideas that could've led somewhere and just make new ones if you do decide that you want to. BUT that's ultimately up to you, and I wish you luck in whatever your decide to do
Okay guys. I have an idea. Let’s just make up our own lore. Let’s make a story, and then when it’s done, we can show it to Jonochrome and he can be like, “Wow cool okay bye-bye now” We get our story. He doesn’t. Win-win situation.
As much as I enjoy media that has an ongoing plot with story and character arcs, ONAF is one of my favorite FNAF fan games of all time. Having to worry about the threat of death by egg instead of trying to wrap your head around the potential story is a nice change of pace.

In my head all the characters are just there, we dont know how they git there or what they are they just ate
"because the answers to those questions are your fiction"
Me: remembers the "weird" side of the community
Also me: *SAY SIKE RIGHT NOW*
To me Flumpty's lore is tied to the context of our existence.
Onaf was one of the first fan games I've ever seen, and I think it's perfect. You are amazing and talented. =)
I remember all of this stuff from your creator commentaries.
Also, I grew up with the Riddle School series so I want you to be happy as well dude. You are incredible!
If One Night at Flumpty’s had any lore, i’d expect it to be some bizarre anime plot with friendship involved in it.
I think people love your series so much just cuz the characters are honestly really fun and funny. Honestly another little comic series starring Blam and Flumpty like in those animations would be nice. At least, that’s how I feel.
Sometimes a story is just a story...
oh no
MR HIPPO
The fnaf 4 box has nothing inside it guys, it’s tru-
Ayyyyyy, more Flumpty content.
Honestly I can respect this type of lore, no reason to force a plot into something that isn’t trying have some huge story. It’s just nice
You just make these likable characters with just a small bit of backstory so it makes me and others want to explore things like their group dynamic.
It's the kind of humor I like.
i find it funny how you were able to give a better explanation of a comic series and 2 and a half games, than scott cawthon has given from over 10 games, a book series, and a movie.
also, i like how you managed to predict the whole corona virus thing on the beavers news paper, "Your worst nightmare, running out of toilet paper."
I feel like the only lore is Flumpty does whatever the hell he wants. Period.
Birthday Boy Blam is infinite years old because every day is his birthday, forever. Except Tuesday.
Hey Jonochrome! Big fan of your work with Riddle School and Transfer, and ONaF! Can't wait to see more work from you!
9:18 reminded me of the lyric "That box would be empty, except for the memory of how they were answered by you"
ONAF Headcanon of mine
Flumpty Bumpty after being told by an old lady ,who was secretly an illegal drum (not drug) dealer, that he piled up dirt on already burried Blam and Kevin Jr., he dug them out and used his powers of plot immunity to revive them.
Amigo's head
And the Luigi corpse in the second game, it's just a bootleg ragdoll he bought off eBay because Flumpty is too afraid to actually fight the Mario Bros..
"No, you cant just break the laws of space and time"
"Haha fourth wall break go brrr"
I really like the silly One Week at Flumpty's animations, they give me a good laugh and capture the spirit of what Flumpty is about.
Thanks Space X, awesome content
Thank you so much for clearing things up for the fans!! Im excited to see what they come up with since you have essentially given us free reign over what happens next in the nonexistent lore. Lets fill thaf box up fellas!!
The TL;DR of all Flumpty games is: "Flumpty was bored", that's really as far as any explanation or "lore" goes.
I absolutely love this series. It's just dumb but fun! We need more games like these. No lore. Just dumb fun :D
I didn't even find this channel through ONAF, I found it through Cant Food, which is the best thing ever btw, then I was like "oh this guy also made flumpty's, thats pretty cool". I think that it fits perfectly with the game to not have lore, its great XD.
This man straight up reconnected his entire non-existent story and the death of his main character.
"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." - H.P Lovecraft
This is the reason I loved the games a lot, it was creepy, I liked the art style, and there was no story whatsoever.
I like this guy he's really humble and sounds really cool
open ended lore where you can just come up with whatever crap you want is the best lore tbh
I honestly think it's better you dont force yourself to make another flumpty game so that instead of giving us like 50 sequals where most people will only like half of them, we get 2 FANTASTIC fan-games people can look back on as being amazing games with great art and music!
huh. even this video isn’t canon anymore. oh, how the turntables.
he fooled us all lmao, nothing will ever make any actual sense
If flumpty's immune to the plot that means he's immune to the story so having a story would defeat the purpose of flumpty being immune to the plot
Thanks to scotts fazbear multiverse, we maybe getting a new game.
We ARE getting flumptys 3. Scott said himself it's part of the starting roster.
Dang. 3 years later and the last sentence is still deep as heck.
I never would've thought that a game about a time-space bending egg would have a story. ANY kind of story.
I just adore your artwork/ style, how it can simple yet so endearing
The egg behind the slaughter
I literally was watching you talking to the lore of flumptys yesterday, (your old videos back in 2016) and now I saw this in my recommended list
speaking of headcannons, it is my headcannon that in one night at flumpty's one, you are flumpty's mailman, there is no reason for this, you just are
So, head canons are now canon, but can be retconned. Neat. I do love these creepy yet funny characters you made and how it impacted the FNaF community as one of the best fan games ever made about an egg that has god powers and wants to be your friend by risking death with his other friends. It cool series.
“Can I offer you an egg in this trying time?”
So basically blam has 40% of flumpty's power
The games are good, Jon! I’ve always loved them. That’s why we’re interested in them.
I mean, other people are creating one week at flumptys and have been for awhile with pretty good progress and still using your old ideas.
Ohh I didn't even know about the comics or your friends!
This all makes much more sense now to me, thank you.
I appreciate your honesty about it not having lore, afterall not everything needs an explanation. :]
Imagine MatPat hearing these words come from Scott.
You made a solid piece of work that’s why there’s continued interest bro it’s a great project
Rip his account
Honestly I think you do great when you make games that focus on gameplay with comedic writing. I can't wait to see what you do next, no matter what it is.
A lesson some of the lore chasers could learn from this: Some things don't need to be explained.
Would love to see more Flumpty videos or games, but only if it is enjoyable for you as well as us!
I like how the first 2 games were made, with its own running gags and rules.
Most people: well I guess that’s it
MatPat on crack: Or isss it?!
Let’s make a story, and then when it’s done, we can show it to Jonochrome and he can be like,
“Wow cool okay bye-bye now”
We get our story.
He doesn’t.
Win-win situation.
As much as I enjoy media that has an ongoing plot with story and character arcs, ONAF is one of my favorite FNAF fan games of all time. Having to worry about the threat of death by egg instead of trying to wrap your head around the potential story is a nice change of pace.
