    I'm glad that FMA is begining to be recognized right now, history never wanted this to proliferate to begin with. This artform was banned during the Spanish colonial era because of it's violent nature. The Spanish government was so anxious because Filipinos at that time will always carry bolos or sundang that is why they forced the Pinoys to wear a transparent polo to see whether they conceal any weapons. Their government even banned the teaching of Kali. Some masters were also killed during the Japanese era on a massacre at sea. This was supposed to be a secret handed only to a member of a warrior family. Modern Filipinos doesn't even know that Kali exist. I believe that there is so much in store for FMA in the future! Thank you for sharing.

      Kali or Arnis should be taught in school. ROTC is or was a requirement from senior high school up to 4 semesters in college. Kali/Arnis should be incorporated in ROTC. If there's no more ROTC, then it should be taught as part of PE (gym class) in high school and in college. Arnis is only taught in elementary during my time in the 80's, I remember performing it during linggo ng wika.

    Kalis Ilustrisimo is my favorite style but there is no school nearby where I live. The reason why I like it is because of the sword styles often taught like the Barong, Moro Kriss, and the Kampilan all have been tested against the Spanish, Americans, Japanese and Chinese and countless heads were taken as a result. The swords of the Philippines were the most effective in the world; us Americans know this as well as the Japanese. The Japanese would consider the Pinoy sword arts as inferior and yet they were also killed by wielders of these arts. The Japanese continue to complain but us Americans wanted to learn and now Kali is becoming just as popular as MMA or Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and why you ask, because in survival Kali works and it will help a cage fighter in self defense/survival.

    The difference in FMA is very effective brutal/deadly in close combat even if you have guns, before pulling the trigger youre already dead., if comparing to other combat or martial arts, FMA is not like MMA/UFC that you win some and lose some, collect money and get up for another day. FMA is used to kill enemy since 1521, and at same time its also a sport, so if people wants to compare FMA to any other martial arts., start to count how many dead bodies with the FMA lets start spanish war, american war, and japanese war even until today philippine special forces is equipted with FMA, "BATTLE OF MARAWI" you can search in youtube. 2017 were foreign ISIS enter Philippines to try to expand their territory and get wipe out for 5months., While other sport are purely a sprts.

    I kinda understand why it would be hard to teach some of this martial arts in school, it's too violent and damaging. I mean Arnis is okay, but I think it's best to teach it to people who are willing to control when they learn it.

    This art was kept hidden during Colonization when Colonists banned natives to use weapons. They kept it lowkey through a form of dance.

    Hi Paul, I have been learning the FMA for nearly five months and I am in love with it for so many reasons. But my question is this: I am a member of the military and as much as I appreciate the art form and the attributes that one can obtain from flow drills, I am yet to see a TRUE example of pressure testing the empty hand disarm of a knife against a TRULY ferocious, frenzied attack in full gear etc. What drills/ training approach do you recommend if I want to spend time focusing on some streamlined functional applications of the art for close quarter combat?

    • @kalicenter
      @kalicenter  7 лет назад +3

      Hi Bradley, We don't show majority of our training on RUclips but, we do train this. In fact the KC staff and I just trained this on Memorial Day. We have displayed this in some of our Live Streams inside Kali Center Community during our sparring sessions. That's where we'll show more of what Kali is.
      If you're empty handed against a knife it's very bad and the odds are already severely against you no matter what you train. If you're empty hand against a knife with one of us having the knife there is nearly no chance as we do train to never have our knives disarmed plus the proper execution of footwork.
      Are you in the Kali Center Community group on Facebook? I also hold Combat Knife weekend courses where we do a lot of the pressure testing and chisel away the delusions many have when it comes to the knife. I've had a lot of other military personal and SWAT attend these courses.
      Thanks for the comment and I hope you can catch the next time we display this.

      This exact training you are asking about will also be inside Kali Center University as we move into our Level 3 of our curriculum. That's when the pressure is on! :)

      Kali Center Thank you for the reply! I live in the U.K where carrying EDC day to day can land you with years in prison just for carrying! I have my opinion on that but that is by-the-by. But with that in mind, as much as I agree with you on how dangerous it is and as Pete Robins said "It is ALMOST too late" if you have got to empty hands against a live blade out and in play - really this is a very real possibility for self protection scenarios here. The sort of attack that I have never seen a solution to is exactly the type of attack that will be most likely (if you don't trap the blade before the enemy deploys it and take his consciousness/mobility/will to continue) and that is that jailhouse bulldog rush of frantic, frenzied stabs and slashes, usually accompanied by a lapel grab of some kind while they go like a sowing machine with the knife hand. I love the FMA and will always continue my growth in them regardless as I am in love with it and the research behind brain development from the complex motor skills is astounding AND IT'S FUN - but I'm hoping to learn some Kali concepts and training principles put into a streamlined, purely functional curriculum that is in no way theory or unproven in absolute 100% pressure tested environment. I understand a lot of the top Kali guys that teach SF/military narrow the syllabus down to a few tested basics that are pure function and it's that element that I am searching for. Thanks again, I have subscribed and shared, I think your content is fantastic. I especially enjoyed your BJJ video, really important stuff that some may not be aware of. Much respect 🙏

      @@bradleythompson2644 Spyderco Uk penknife , legal to carry . I study SD and I'd like to tell you that there are no magic solutions to frenzy knife attack. You will probably get cut/stabbed . You should look for CQC close quarter combat or reality fighting ( usually a mix of Krav, BJJ ,Arnis and a striking Art) . People that train prison guards ; military etc. Be careful , if you use that kind of training in a civilian environment, you will go to jail. Also be sure to check out the reputation of the place.
