  • This clip shows various views around Diggers Rest, on the Sunbury/Bendigo line. The line has had its electrification extended from Watergardens (Sydenham ) to Sunbury.
The Metro Comeng electrics shown are being used for driver training purposes before a full suburban service commences to Sunbury in late November. Also shown are the Sunbury "XPT" with the push pull V/Line P's, a service that will become a thing of the past once Metro begins it's services. V/Line N Class are also shown on a commuter run ex Kyneton, and the daily return pass to Swan Hill, a 700 km return trip.
Sprinter and V'Locity railcars are also shown on various services, some stopping at Diggers Rest.
Also making a guest appearance is N464 on a special charter for Southern Cross 10 to Bendigo for the Bendigo Cup. The train was being run by Steamrail, with motive power supplied by V/Line.

VSH22 on 8016 must be fresh out of the shops. Look at the white walled tyres!

Fantastic video mate! 5:07 - This is my usual train for the morning (lovely to not have one of the many V/Locities!) and one can always tell if it's on time by where it passes the soon-after Swan Hill service. I never knew that there were still push-pull P loco-hauled trains to Sunbury - I thought they were all V/Locities. Great to see them still in service. When did you film this?

The red signal might have had a bearing on it.

It was filmed last Wed. The push pull P's have 2 or 3 weeks to go out there.

Some only to Sunbury, while others go on to Kyneton, and others to Bendigo and beyond.

Like watching wannabee XPT slab-end trains....and who stops a train at a level crossing? That's a first.
