the issue still is misty. the gap between its floor and ceiling is to high. i dont mind coin flips but misty decides games on turn 1 sometimes which is bad
oh i agree, but this game is heavy coin flips which isn't a bad thing. Pretty on brand with pokemon tbh, but then the issue is things like zapdos ex who can deal insane damage based on coin flips as well.
@@DiegoDeschain so you feel like up to infinite energy for free on any water pokemon is balanced compared to each of the other energy ramp options in the game?
Personally, I think that even if they forced players to have at least 1 non-EX basic in their deck and they reprogrammed it so your starting hand always has at least 1 non-EX basic (instead of 1 basic), the game would still encourage very little creativity because everyone would just use Meowth.
Two options game design wise: Ranked mode disables having only 1/2 basic pokemons in your deck (requires like 4/5/6). Misty is capped at 3/4/5. The game is in soft launch, no need for balance patches 😂. Tho this type of deck is AMAZING to farm solo quests 😊
The starter pool of cards already feels like it has so many extremely powerful tech options that are usually drip fed in other card games or banned that it makes me scared for future sets. The deck thinning and energy ramp just already feels crazy.
Gets 5 energies with Misty, proceeds to use the manual attachment for the turn to put a sixth one on the same Articuno instead of starting to build the second one 🤡
he also refused to use both pokeballs in the second game and instead use professor which couldve hard punished him if he drew the only target for pokeball 🤡
@DiegoDeschain No he ended his turn twice without using them and drew a total of 3 cards while both pokeballs were in his hand. Thats not ok thats insane 😳
Fossil is nice but I prefer pokedex over it because that card have synergy with pokeball. If you don't like the top cards in your deck; use pokeball to shuffle your deck to change that. Higher chance of getting Misty that way.
This one bothers me because its a problem theyve already tried solving in the physical game. Players at sealed events who opened an ex would just run 39 cards and the ex. The solution was you instantly concede if you needed to mulligan too many times. Since this game is seperate from the TCG proper Id love to see them make ex's just not count as basics, but I dont see that happening so they can keep it in line with the normal game.
Tbh I think the best way to fix this deck is to add a muligan into the game, where it makes it possible to not get a basic pokemon in ur hand and allows ur opponent to get an extra card
I wonder if they can change the text and other parameters on the cards? Simple fix could be make blizzard cost an additional energy, as well as make Misty "flip 2 coins, for each heads attach 1 water to a water". Also game should have Mulligan's so every time hand is drawn without a basic Pokémon, the opponent gets to draw a card. Keep redrawing until you get a basic.
Game is soft launch mot even global and folks calling for nerfs sad truly sad, that deck maybe op in a way but I say let the people play however they want however they like who cares and don’t forget if they add a ranked mode for rewards they could just input rules to not allow decks like that.
The only thing broken i seen on this vid is Misty, and it was due to rng, so in reality nothing broken just hella lucky, if you miss or dont see your Misty in your first couple turns you are cooked against most decks
Yeah but in most cards games, turn 1 enablers tend to get ban, even pokemon tcg are cautious with this type of strategies, and is a coin flip heavy game, so I would guess this card will be adjusted in some way depending on this game been just full casual or if they try to make it a little competitive.
I really don't think this is a problem at all. This is the way PTCG should have been from the beginning. *You choose your starting basic, then place prizes, then draw your hand.* Lets take the recent WC winning deck as an example. It was Iron Thorns. Only 4 pokemon in a 60 card deck. Nearly every match, the opponent got to draw anywhere from 3 to 8 extra cards due to the amount of mulligans required to draw his basic. He won the tournament, but starting out with his only basic or a basic of his choice wasn't the reason. The card itself was. Just how Misty is an issue in this game. So to sum it up: -The new rule to automatically have a basic in your starting hand is fine. -Individual cards balanced around that rule will be the reason.
I think it would be pretty balanced if they add a discard energy effect on articuno just like with some fire-type cards so that misty won't be too OP with the RNG. Discarding two energies for blizzard seems fair if this would be the tier 0 meta deck.
*Update they will introduce Super and Ultra Balls for Evolved Forms and Master for Legendaries both now limited to one Copy. Not for balance, but for Quarterly Earnings.*
The problem is with Misty when the other types don't have that ramp. If they all have ramp, it would be fine but then again other types have heavy hitters like Mewtwo EX which only ramps well with Stage 2 Gardevoir. For Fighting Marowak EX hits 160 with 2 energy, which compared to Articuno 80 (+10 to bench) for 3 energy could be considered just as broken. The downsides being you have to evolve so Marowak EX can't do it on your turn 1 but on turn 2 onward if you get lucky with coinflips that's the meta OHKO anything but things like the EX of Venasaur, Charizard, Blastoise which won't be there because it's a stage 2 and you can run Sabrina to force out a weaker mon from the bench to win the game. Get lucky on coinflips and only run cubone/Marowak EX and you'll win against most. Get unlucky with coinflips and you'll never win. Your opponent (Articuno) gets lucky with coinflips you lose.
Honestly, and maybe I just haven't considered the issue enough, I kind of like the "always start with a basic" mechanic. I think it's sufficiently gimmick-y with substantial enough limitations (limited ability to tank damage, only able to play a single Pokemon, etc.) that unless the right basic Pokemon was printed it won't be broken, and I think it actually makes a game more interesting to have these sort of extreme/all-in strategies available to people. Given how relatively casual this game is shaping up to be anyway, with all the coin flips and such, I appreciate the flavor decks like these can bring to things. Watching the gameplay, I can definitely see how the ability to power up those insane turn 1 attacks could be a genuine issue though, mostly with Misty's. Those sort of turn 1 popoff decks always rely upon the luck going their way to make the combo work, but guaranteeing that you start with the correct mon may indeed give them just a little bit too much consistency.
Given the attention to the collection aspect of the game, I wonder if they’ll even really bother to update the battle aspect? Do they even care about the metagame, with a ladder and whatnot, or are we just hoping it’s not going to be a casual game?
The coin flips in this game can be crazy at times i have a deck that i made a round licktounge as a meme but the luck some times is insane they are games i oneshoting Charizard ex other games i am doining 0 danage
Also, they could nerf Misty so that you can't use her at turn 1. The point isn't that this deck is OP, because it's not, the point is that these kind of strats are degenerate and bad for the game. These kinds of decks guarantees that alteast 1 person has a bad time playing in every match.
Yeah I had the shame of dying to this Turn 1. I only drew one basic pokemon under 80hp so it made things even worse lol. So far, I'm finding Starmie EX quite strong too. Only 2 Energy needed after all for 90 damage =x.

I really don't understand the problem with this cheese. For me it's not even aspecially a good deck. If you're first and don't draw or hit misty you are quite slow even if you go second actually. And you are not sure to have a second pokémon on your bench cause it's really not guaranted to draw your second Articuno even with the pokeballs. Plus you can't draw on the match by retreating your damaged pokémon to put a secondary attacker cause you don't have any. It's just misty cheese that works only half the time and I don't know how that can be a problem. Is there a mulligan rule Pokemon Pocket? If not, that's probably why you are guaranteed to have a basic pokemon in hand to avoid revealing your hand to show no basic pokemon and reshuffle.
makes sense though. real game, you have to have a basic to start the game. If no basic in your hand, then you reshuffle. So this makes sense you will start with one.
yeah but i was thinking more so to counter this articuno, you turn one fill up ur bench turn 2 attack with pikachu ex for 110 damage and hope the articuno player doesnt get good coin flips. But for sure in terms of basic ex pokemon, not even close

not to craft missing cards but you can add flairs to a card to make them shinier or have a cool visual effect in battle (you need to attach it when building your deck) by sacrificing the extra cards + some sort of dust currency which they give you a lot of.
I dont see any problem with this mechanic, the normal Pokemon Tcg also has this where you must always start with a basic, and a few modern strats just use 4 of the Same Ex and the Supporter that drops your opponents hand to 3 cards, negating the benefit of their early mulligan's
