RockItPete...your comment is interesting because I'm always appalled that people can be so judgmental against people they probably don't even know. There are many fans, who seem to have a favorite Supreme. And that's cool, but if Flo caught your eye, then why is it necessary to mention Ross? Interestingly, as a young boy, it was Ross, who caught my eye. She was a beauty and her voice was the sweetest voice I'd ever heard in my young life.
@Phillip Allen You're right...Mary was always a beauty. Still, for me, even with her big eyes, wide smile, skinny frame and flat chest, Ross had something that grabbed me as a small child. I couldn't take my eyes off of her! Looks aside, nobody sang with such a pretty voice like Ross!
Of the three, Florence was by far the prettiest. Diana often caked herself in makeup and reminded me of something in a wax museum. So tragic to be lost at 32.

Dear Seattlejayde...if Flo was the "real" talent, how come her solo career flopped? Please answer that question. (Of course, you'll likely blame everyone and their GrandMama for that too). Meanwhile, Mary has maintained some semblance of a career for 50 million and eleven year...and Ross, well she's lasted for literal decades. And so she had to have something special about her whether it was her voice, her class, her acting, her persona. If you consider Flo such the talent, that's fine, but to discount the others and call Flo "the real talent," I have to wonder why that "real" talent didn't amount to much (especially after Flo left Motown and you are anyone else can blame Ross for that).

As a young boy in the mid 60's, Florence always caught my eye. She seemed beautiful and real...in stark contrast to Diana Ross.
I'm happy for you and many agree with you....she sold a few records!
As a Liitle Boy in the 60's. I only heard Diana's Voice. My eyes were always looking at Flo.
@@calvinterrell2053 Her eyes and mouth were too big.
Thx a million for respecting and remembering, a true queen wt dignity, she sure didn't get it in life, gone too young, never forgotten!!
Of the three, Florence was by far the prettiest. Diana often caked herself in makeup and reminded me of something in a wax museum. So tragic to be lost at 32.
Notice Ross even bleached her skin over the years …..
I was about 12 year and soo in love with Florence. 1964/65
@@paulbakker6765 Flo's sweet face and smile makes me melt.
Thank you for this honest and interesting Vlog remembering Florence.
Gosh! 32 years old when she died! 💔
I did not realize that.
Thank you for this video and keeping her alive in music history...❤
Rest in peace Florence...❤❤
Her sister Maxine Ballard Jenkins wrote a book she speaks of how florence had a fight with Tommy and how it was results of what happened and how she seen bruises on her in the casket from the fight.
@@timothyypearson And that BAS***D Tommy got away with it........he must of felt like a real man, beating up on a woman. If he is still alive.....I hope his life is a living HELL..👹👹 Love you Florence.💖💖💖

Thank you for picking up and replacing the flag. That was very touching and respectful. Thank you.
I'm seeing this late but thank you for honoring the one Supreme who needs all the love and attention most. My Supreme Girl, Florence Ballard-Chapman. I Love you, Flo. She passed on a month after I was born in 1976. God bless you, Flo.
Great job Scott! You can tell this one hit a nerve in your emotions. I'm sure Florence was smiling at you and thanks for paying respect to the fallen flag. Always am happy to see you posting a new video - keep up the great work!
I just love how respectful you are to those dearly departed star's that have been gone to long and forgotten, beautiful tribute to her.
When I was a young girl growing up in Oakland, my friends and I would get together and play records. They would bring the Monkees and their Beatles records and I would bring my Supremes records. I was always listening to "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Baby Love" "I Hear a Symphony" and so many others. :)
U & I were alike, although I brought all the Motown acts records to the parties, but mostly Supremes' records. They were magical.
Mosaic Rose Nice. I enjoy listening to all those recording you just name.
This story always fascinated me.
I'm tied of it, nobody lives forever. Get over it.its nobodys fault cause surely not Diana.
O no... Ross played a part in it by being Ruthless and selfish not just to her group members, but many people at Motown and many have stories to tell.
@@peacefull778 many have lies to tell!
Craven B..Let 'a face it you are a DR fan and that is nice, but this woman was not a nice person in her youth and the worlds knows it. She is a big star today, sure she worked hard, many people at Motown did but they did not sleep with the owner of the company. ✌
@@peacefull778 I just don't care about things that happened when she was.young, or now Diana will always be my #1 female singer of all time.......sorry!
That picture of Florence at 8:33 is stunning. She was gorgeous in that color.
@13:04 it's heart warming that her true friend Mary Wilson went all the way to the grave site. Both are now hugging in heaven, Mary kept her legacy alive in many interviews. I can't see how anyone in the Motown musical industry could not compensate her daughters, SMDH.
Yeah? Mary stabbed Flo in her back. Some friend that is.
FLORENCE WAS MY FAVORITE
What an Amazing amount of Musical History , this Man has Collected , from The Top Selling Female - Trio , in History.
How thoughtful to remember to this day.
Scott...No-one does a better job than you in researching and presenting these historical pieces about celebrities and significant events of our past. I hope you're well and the Dearly Departed Museum and Tours can once again open it's doors for those of us who would like to be close to a piece of history and listen to your great voice!
James Jamerson played bass on all those hits and had to buy his own ticket to the 25th anniversary, and sit in the balcony.......what a shame.
That sounds just like Berry Gordy & Motown. Dont worry J. J. , there's a day of reckoning for everyone, & for some, "OH BOY"!
Bob C. I didn’t know that about Jamerson. His legendary bass was the foundation on which Motown was built.
Lamont dozier was asked to leave buy guards at the other studios Motown recorded at in 68
timothyy pearson Sounds like typical Berry Gordy tactic
I remember reading that they had to really talk some of the performers into coming back to do the 25th Anniversary. A lot of strained relationships. James Jameson deserved more than that.
Loved the vlog, Scott. Thank you for taking us to Florence’s final resting place. She is missed. 🙏❤️
How very sad! Now, less than 5 months later, Mary Wilson is gone. One by one they are taken from us. This was a very informative piece. Thanks so much for posting.
It seems that Tommy weaseled his was back into Flo's life after she started getting back on her feet.
And u know this. The world is full of leeches like him.
@Nothing but the truth Brown Ain't that the truth. Women will do it to men too. Ain't human nature a trip? Sad!
@@davidbetsey2437 Thank you. I read, when she died, where her sister Maxine said this. Maxine said that Flo was about to get a new recording contract , and that she and Tommy were reconciling. I read this in SOUL magazine, which featured her funeral. I sure wish I kept that magazine.
@California Girl He wasn't. It reported that he also physically abused her.
Amen that's what I thought.🙏🙏💞
A very nice video. Very reverent. I sure hope Florence is looking down and smiling, knowing that her fans still love and remember her. Wish she had known that during her dark times, she may still have been here. Thank you for the video. And rest in peace, Florence.
Thank you for honoring Florence Ballard! She was the REAL talent
Calvin Terrell because she was signed to abc who did nothing for black artists
@@LoveTheKay You're sweet! Everything was Berry's fault. Then it was Diana's fault. Next it was Tommy's fault. Now here you come with your sidenote conclusion, it was ABC's fault. That's sweet. As much as you love Flo (and I loved her too, btw) you cannot and will not admit that Berry was right...she didn't have "it" to be a star in her own right. Nobody bought that crap that Flo put out. It really is sad, but it's also true.
Calvin Terrell wait I’m confused are you agreeing or disagreeing with me?
Jeffrey Suggs it was his fault idiot. He treated her badly and she did nothing wrong. So stop with the nonsense
Florence was my great aunt... my grandmother’s sister (my grandmother.... who is still living... she is one of 2 still living out of all the children of Jesse and Lurlee). Wish I had known my aunt. She died 3 years before I was born. :(

Thank you for doing this. Respectful. About 30 years ago we were visiting the museum in Detroit and Mrs. Edwards told us simply (after I had asked unnecessary questions), "We all loved Florence". And since there was no tour guide available at the time she just said, "You guys can go through by yourselves. I trust you. Pretty nice.. Got to meet Mary Wilson a couple times and she spoke reverently of Florence. Good memories to hold on to.
Flo had the best voice of the three. Sadly, I think what Diane did sent Flo to an early grave.
Don't be foolish , maybe Flo ha and ok voice but it wasn't a money making voice, motown was a business, and flo's voice wasn't a money making voice but Diana's was a money making machine.

A beautiful tribute, to a wonderful and talented singer, who could have been a star that surpassed Diana Ross. Her voice was gorgeous. This is the tragedy of the music world, spit them out, eat them up, and throw them away! She and many others have seen this fate. Even today! It really needs to stop!

Thank you for sharing & posting your story & video. I was a big Supremes' fan in the 60's & I still have a difficult time trying to wrap my head around the sad circumstances surrounding Florence's life post Supremes. My forever image & vision of this kindhearted & loving angel is the smiling & fun demeanor I see she has during those early days with Diana & Mary. I really believe Flo was the one out of all of them to remain true to herself & her friends, from her humble beginnings until the end. Thanks for the tribute. I wish it was longer! I remember her death. I bought the Soul magazine which featured a 60s pic of Florence, Mary and Diana.

So young. What a sad story. As usual, Scott, you always deliver tragedy and do it well. Thanks.
Such a big amount of history in a small building. Another informative well detailed video, thanks Scott.
I heard Florence Ballard was the one who of the Supremes. It's really a shame that she died so young! Florence really got the shorter end of the stick and a raw deal! Hopefully she's getter better rewards in heaven. She had a grim set of circumstances happened to her after she was the one who thought of the group in the first place! What a sad end 2 go
She had such a lovely voice, and the music back then was just wonderful. My aunt lived in Detroit but now she lives in Clinton Twnship and we used to go visit her and one of her neighbors was always playing Motown on their stereo. Such wonderful times and wonderful memories, it’s too bad how she was done dirty like that. Money is the root of all evil
Thank you, well done.
I've lost a little bit of respect for Diana, turning up at the funeral, front and center and not bothering to attend the burial? Seems like most celeb entitlement hasn't diminished but flourished. RIP Florence
Florence will always be my favorite in a legendary group. I used to go to Todd's in 86 87 88. I was 15 in 86! I'm so sorry I missed Mary Wilson There. I've been to Florence grave as well. Thanks for a great video
I always love to,listen to the live version of the Supremes songs, Florence voice really stands out and you can tell how much of a beautiful singer she was.
I agree 💯
I didnt know she was so young, her poor babies man..... such is life. Nice of you to pay your respects thanks for video.
I was a teen living in Detroit in the 60’s as well. I know what you mean. Motown made me proud to be from Detroit. When there wasn’t much else going for us.
What are you talking about ? How about all the beautiful cars coming out of the factories 65 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, 64 Impala SS, 65 Impala SS, 64 Mustang 64 GTO,and many more. Detroit was a better place than anywhere else in the sixties.
I was fortunate enough to go on 2 of your tours, 4 years apart . You were so very gracious to have your picture taken with us both. I was there with my band playing up the west coast of Cali. I remember you were fascinated by the length of my hair.
If you’ve ever heard Flo sing “Walk-in’ around Heaven’ you get a taste of her potential. I wonder if her efforts to have her own recording career was sabatoge. RIP Flo ❤️😍
Her recording career was definitely sabotaged and she tried her best to salvage what she had left, but she was blocked at every turn. The woman got beyond sick and tired of the blatant disrespect, Diana and Berry....may she rest in peace.
I remember the day Florence died. I worked at Grace Hospital at the time, and word spread that she was here but died. I was hoping to see her, so I went to the morgue in the basement. I got in, but I didn't have the guts to open her drawer. What if I got caught? I'm a lifelong Detroit resident and have lived here for 65 years. Still kicking it here in Motown.
Once I learned the back story I now never refer to the group as anything but The Supremes out of respect for Florence!
