Ordered two copies of Watermelon Hill for gifts.
I am 77 years old and if thought I could get up off the ground I would lay out in the grass and watch the clouds over head. I have to watch from a chair :) or sometimes I just stop my car on the side of the road and look up at a beautiful sky.
I hope Ms. Cindy has a window she can look through and see those wonderful clouds. Thinking of Matt and your whole family.

My uncle got me twice with a snipe hunt!
I, too, adore the changing of the seasons.
It’s one of life’s greatest moments.
We lived in South Carolina for 4 years.
    Thought we wouldn’t see snow.
It snowed all 4 winters we were there.
A lot of the neighbor children had never seen snow.
    The whole state shut down.
Of course The Yankees got the blame!
    Good natured ribbing.
    Thank you, Tipper.
These stories paint vivid pictures in my mind.
Blessings and Peace to your family in this difficult time of life.
I pray Miss Cindy has a peaceful transition.

Memories of lying on top of local hills just watching the clouds and listening to the buzz of the insects. We had lots of skylarks then, who would soar up high and sing the most beautiful songs. At my home where we have lived for 38 years, I have always had flowers and would have swarms of butterfly's and lots of bees. I am afraid to say most have disappeared. I do have a pond and spring nights get treated to the frogs singing. In the U.K. we have very strict rules on animal movement from abroad. We do not have rabies and continue to police our borders. I saw the film Old Yeller and had to be removed from the cinema as I was quite hysterical! Thank you for the reading when you have so much to cope with, it is always my Saturday morning highlight.❤

My favorite time and place is by the beach on the Gulf, in Corpus Christi Texas, where I'm from....early as the sun rises on the horizon, making sparkles across the water. You can see and hear the waves as they come in washing along the shore. I've heard about Snipe hunts.. never been on one though. I bet it was fun! I live in the middle of a very big city, Boise, Idaho, but I've had a resident mountain lion for a few years now (ever since I dug a pond). I don't go outside for anything late at night. I've never seen it but got a picture of a 3" wide paw print in the snow last winter. I knew it was big because I would find a big mashed area in my wildflowers on certain mornings.
Also, the thing about how people talk different. I moved to Hawaii when my son was @ 6 y.o. I met my neighbor's son and we became friends. They talk in a way they call pigeon English that I had a REAL hard time with for quite awhile. They have a word pronounced "bum-BYE" that means "at a later time". If you asked someone if they were going to the store, they might say "yeah, bumbye". So after about 6 months of struggling to understand him and I was fishing on the island of Molokai and I was complaining out of frustration to Kenneth that I just couldn't figure out what the fish would bite and he said to me, "S'ah'right, bumbye you go-een". And I got so excited and said, Oh my gosh, I understood what you said!!" 😆
And even in the 90's, Molokai was still a place where you can see a billion stars. Like the sky is more stars than darkness. I was able to see the Hale Bopp comet just looking out my door.

Rest in Heaven Bounce and Freddy 😢 i was 17 when my got a tumor: Basically, I watched my soul mate (no exaggeration there, he puIlled me out of a deep depression) starve to where he could barely walk on his own. He was a mixed breed with lots of terrier, about 25 pounds, energetic, would chase anything that moved. At 39 years old, I'm still grieving and pining for him to rub his soft floppy ears on myr face one more time. I don't think the grief ever truly leaves.
To end on a hqppier note, I'll email you a link to a picture of an Eastern Screech-owl I saw on my 2021 Christmas Bird Count route. Thank you sharing this part of history.
Edit: sorry for all the typos, I'm actually pretty good on a qwerty keyboard but this is what happens when I'm on the phone late at night and a story like this just grabs my heart and takes me on a journey. Tippep, thanks again you are an amazing story teller and Gld has definitely blessed you with the ability to reach even the hardest-headed of us out there. I liked the part about the blue streak of lightning that went through Dale‘s house. A similar thing happened at my grandmothers house in Arkansas. There was a lightning storm and the lightning hit the house and a large orange ball of flame went down the hallway. Unfortunately I did not see it but she did and said that it was something that she would never forget. I also like all four seasons that we have here in central Oklahoma.

Thanks for reading. My mom remembers laying on her back watching the clouds. I lost a Boston terrier to diabetes.

My most special dog was my Boston Terrier, Buster. He was such an animated dog and we all loved him like family. He passed away at age 8 from a brain tumor.

I love all of this part of the book.. I have seen and heard Panthers. Dale and Katie are exactly right. It is a horrible screaming sound. It sounds like someone is murdering a woman. I watch the movie old yeller one time as a child and I have never watched it again in my life. Way too sad for me. Another sad movie is where the red fern grows. That one will make you cry too. Lots of love and prayers for all of you from the south east coast of Florida.🙏💕🙏

I've only had one encounter with a whip-poor-will, and it was not pleasant at all. I was camping in western Michigan near Pentwater. I set up my tent and bedded down. Just as I was about to get to sleep a whip-poor-will started his song in the tree above me. Talk about loud. I swear he could be heard 3 counties away. He kept it up unceasingly all night long till day break. I didn't get a minutes sleep that night.

lol the part about the Yankees made me smile. I, of course as you know Tipper, am a Yankee. But of course I'm only half a Yankee. That's a long story. I also love dogs.

Just at dusk one night there was a fox that screamed and it sounded like a woman being murdered. I knew what it was, and it STILL scared me. Never heard it again.
