Nice old combine I had a Ransomes Saracen combine it had the same header elevator and basic layout as a cavalier but had a wider drum and sieves with an extra straw walker. Ransomes made 5 of them but they never went to production. The bloke I sold it to took the engine and scraped the rest shame really. Apparently 1 still exists not far from Ipswich where they were built. I don’t want to be a knob but I think the colour is a bit to bright on this one mine was a bit darker.

Just found this video by accident, great to see a Ransomes combine working, I worked on combines at Ransomes during my apprenticeship late 60’s and early 70’s. Out of the factory the Super Cavalier was actually two tone blue, the original Ransoms dark blue lower half and this lighter blue on the top but many of them were stuck in stock for so long and stored in a dirt floor Dutch barn that they had to be repainted more than once. I also worked in R&D when we changed the engine to a V8 on one of the Saracen’s still have the scars to prove it!

Hi there, I like to see the old combines working. Somehow never get bored of them. I would love to use a ransomes 1001. They seem to be the rarest Ransomes combine. Always happy to hear from people who enjoy the same things as me. It looks like i am going to be using a Massey 525 this year. My mate just bought one. Be OK so long as it dont break down. Thanks for the message.
