I love the Prewar Hudson set, but you can buy an original 763e and cars for less than that. If I see the Prairie pax set for around $350 later this year, I might jump on it. I also have to think Lionel is going to start shifting their product strategy sooner than later.
Unfortunately Lionel has gotten totally out of control with pricing. Some of the engine throwbacks are cool, but an average person in the hobby can’t afford the prices. It’s a shame that Lionel is also actually making it very difficult for kids to get into the hobby. Even the Lion Chief engines are now 500.00+ Time to change the Lionel Office Staff and CEO. They need a shake up and refocus.

Suddenly I don't feel too guilty buying a preowned Williams J class anymore, nor too bad about trying out RMT and getting several cars for the price of just one Lionel car. Begs the question just who IS buying all this overpriced stuff nowadays....
The Battery O Gauge might actually be what saves Lionel in future with how affordable they are compared to the electric sets that now cost more than a month's rent for an apartment.
As a collector for over 50 years, this might be the first time I don't buy any Lionel trains from the current catalog. They are over priced for the same tooling they have had forever. I just bought some RMT cars for less than $30 each and they have more detail than a Lionel $99 car.
Apparently, the battery O sets (at least the realistic sets) have a oval of track, FOUR switches and a crossover, plus assorted accessories (crossing gate, trees, signal, etc.) This was really suprizing to me for the price point they are at, and if the cars are what they appear to be (just normal O gauge cars on plastic trucks), and are the same quality as their normal counterparts, these might be a very cheap way to get some rolling stock, swap out the trucks and good to go!
Guys, at those high prices ,remember those trains are made in china and want take chances of receiving them defective or DOA ? No thanks as there is no quality control there.
I'll only prefer only two Commodore Vanderbilt locomotives, the blue and the Halloween one and that's it, I don't want the polar express one, the prewar hudson looks amazing I'll get the locomotive not the set, the prr s1 the tuscan looks pretty and the SP daylight one this one bothers me the most then this: 9:29

The 763e Prewar set is very nice looking, but for $2400 is extremely high. Don’t get why the 763e loco wasn’t listed as a separate option either
