I used to grip it like a 4 seam ball with index and middle fingers knuckled up against the top laces. Over the top to 3/4s would get me very nice 12/6 action. Almost unhitable.
One issue I remember having is blisters. I used to throw it a lot. My fastball at best was 90-91, but coaches would ignore their radar guns once they saw the knuckle curve. The pitch is sloooowwww, like mid 60s. But it worked well. My dad taught me the pitch when I was 12-13ish as a way to throw curve balls without messing up my tendons. As it turns out, this curve has way more action than the “football” style curve ball. How to throw it, I gripped it like I said before like a 4 seam fastball, arm stays the same( as 4seam), Finger nails on inside of laces, in the grove where laces go into ball, is where id try and get a feel with my finger tips because the delivery is where Id kick the knuckles out. Ball facing batter, wrist NOT cocked sideways or anything. Follow through is the same as 4 seam. Aim for rh batter head to land as strike, if you aim to throw to look like a strike, it will fall out of zone and possibly hit the plate. *** work with catcher*** This pitch hits the dirt when trying to get a swinging strike, and get ready to chase ball down 1st base side( if pitcher is rh). Its a tricky pitch to learn, but it does work.
When you throw it, do you flick your finger out to make the ball spin up, or do you throw it like a fastball and have the ball spin down? Sorry if it’s a dumb question, I just want to make sure.
Im 14 and just started throwing one today to get some good pitches to get ahead of the game When I loosen my grip I find that I make it much more nasty on movement
My son wants to start throwing this, I’m wondering how much torque this uses on the elbow? He’s 12 moving to 13U ball and I don’t want him hurting his arm early like I did growing up with my curveball
Overuse of a fastball will hurt his arm more than introducing a new pitch. Make sure his form is good and has a good understanding of when is appropriate time to use the pitch. Build on it and by the time he gets to HS he should be good to go with it.

My son has thrown this pitch since Little League. It now ranges from high 70’s to low 80’s. It’s a great pitch.

Watch Trevor Baur’s knuckle curve... I think he throws one like it. At least his delivery is similar.

I kick them out. It seems to help it spin.

Good video I’m a catcher/pitcher so this might come In Handy thanks!!!
Wish you good luck this year buddy :)
Pointer finger is the index finger. What you called index is the middle finger.
What you described as open toe is closed toe.
Unintentionally confusing, right?
yo where is the pitching style for lefties?
