I use similar methods in basically all situations that includes animals. To let an animal get used to physical handling, tools and accessories (e.g leash, riding crop, trailer, harness/bridle/saddle etc), is A and O, no matter what kind of animal you're dealing with and should be practiced (more or less) daily, already from a young age. This creates trust and security, for both you and the animal.
