  • As part of an Upminster depot open day event a steam train ran between the temporary platform at the depot and Upney station.
    This film shows the train at Hornchurch station, Upminster station and the depot. Also seen are the temporary platform at the depot, Classes 321, 308 and D78 trains.
    This train comprised:
    Met No.1 steam locomotive, 2 former British Railways passenger carriages and battery electric locomotive No. L44
    The passenger carriages look like they were:
    Mk1 BSK No. 35011 numbered 977588 (brake second corridor)
    and Mk2C FO No. 3152 numbered 977547 (first open)

      Keep a lookout...a steam train event between Ealing Broadway and High Street Kensington is likely before the District Line becomes upgraded for automated trains. If it does happen it is likely late 2018 / early 2019.

      No, nothing like that. At 17 I was taken out of the sixth form because my father wanted me working where he was. It was a job I'd been doing for quite a few years in the school holidays. Nothing to do with transport. Although this sounds rough the reality is that I did not have a burning desire for any specific trade, and since what my father was doing had given him a good life so he thought that it would be ideal for me too. Its what most fathers would do, if they could.
