I believe the first two parts were based on a news article Ren read, and that the third part was created quite a bit later and was his own creative license on that story

Yep you picked it up correctly. The first two came out in 2019. So the third was based in 2005.

His appreciation of the abused/abuser relationship is quite startling. The line "do you think I want to do this Violet", where the abuser attempts to put the blame for their violence onto the abused person, is extremely common and yet , not widely known. I believe that Ren has either done some deep research on that type of behaviour or has been close to someone who has been in the situation of either abuser or abused. An amazing understanding of the circle of domestic violence, as you mentioned. A truly great reaction to an amazing piece of dramatic art. Keep it up!! New sub here!

All 3 parts were recorded live, in a single take. He does most of his videos/songs this way. Hi Ren being another example. Don't worry he does more lighthearted stuff too and even in the darker material, there are normally a couple of nuggets of dry humour. He even has tracks where fun and humour take centre stage. I can't wait to see you react to videos where he's properly singing because he has an incredible voice. His cover of 'Man's World', whilst busking (street performance) with Sam Tompkins, shows off his amazing vocal abilities. For one of his own songs, I'd recommend the live version of Chalk Outlines, with the fantastic Chinchilla on guest vocals. Just make sure it's the live version. :)

This originated in a newstory of a young girl "wearing high heels" (streetwalker?) killed by an equally young boy. It caught Ren's attention, and he wrote Jenny's Tale. Over time, he created the next two stories to complete the trilogy. Presumably, he couldn't quite shake it and kept asking questions until these stories emerged.
For an emotional break - and a completely different view of Ren's skills - maybe listen to his band, Big Push, do their medley, I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop. It's amazing and fun... Liked/subscribed. Guaranteed no stress and lots of fun.

Rewinding the hands of time sort of has a double meaning - it is unknown to us at the time, the origin story of Jenny / Screetch but it also serves to jump back to just before the hospital scene where Violet ultimately dies. It's a lot of story to pull together in a 4-5 minute vinette and because it was live, I'm sure they had to condense the story telling as not to make the performance any harder than it needed to be for the sake of one take filming.
The next song that you should consider would be his two live duets with singer Chinchilla - their harmonies are really special and powerful. Money Game is another theatrical performance piece that highlights his attention to detail with character development. After that, you could literally pick any other song and it will start to showcase how extremely diverse his musical styles are. From rap, to reggae, to street performances with his band and other collaborations - there isn't much this guy cannot do. He's a generational talent for sure. Enjoy the dive into his catalog.

I think you might really enjoy an older Ren song called "Do You Believe," or "Dear God." For upbeat & light-hearted, "Love Music 1", "2", and especially "Love Music 3". "Losing It" is a fun, upbeat rappy song on an EDM beat. Really looking forward to your next!

Don’t let this scare anyone away from Ren. He has some great music in every genre. He has a lot that’s not this dark.

I think you did very well on such a dark video. Maybe you would really enjoy some of Ren's bands songs. They are called The Big Push and two fun songs are Bongo Bong or English Man in New York. Ren is a multi faceted artist and it's amazing watching all of the different styles. I like that he brings focus to very dark topics but its nice to see him follow my paths with his talent.

@@JudyAdele - I've just relistened and, yeah, I was wrong. For some reason, I only really took in the thumping of the guitar he did to give himself the beat. I don't understand what I heard the first time now.
And now I'm back to the third song, and that's where the feeling came in. I'd missed all the actual guitar playing and this sounds like a beginner - but that's clearly intentional.
