How 'You'll Never Walk alone' became Liverpool's anthem | Premier League: Ever Wonder? | NBC Sports

I will admit, I am an Arsenal fan and that anthem is epic. I always get chills when I hear it.
Best ever song for any team in sports..tell me a song that make people feel so emotional.
Goosebumps every time
The very first time I went to Anfield, to see Liverpool play. It was magical to hear, see and witness YNWA being sung is unique. It's something that needs to be experienced to be believed. Amazing
I was 4 and asked my Mammy to teach me the words now I'm 64 and still singing it❤In NYC not Dublin 🇮🇪 🇺🇲Dublin Ireland
The most special club. There is meaning behind it.
This is pure goosebumps. Pure passion. Pure adrenaline.
Originally recorded as a single by Elvis's favorite male singer Roy Hamilton back in 1954 (ish). Hamilton's recording was part of Elvis's record collection at Graceland when he died. Gerry Marsden came to the record through it's connection to Elvis and not through Carousel the musical.
liverpool are one of a kind
Awe, how special! ☺
liverpool is still liverpool, the best football club that I very love it, and it can be changed....
Thus anthem gives me goosebumps
Every time i hear this i get goosebumps. I have the original recording by Gerry and the pacemakers
Liverpool should thank Rodgers and Hammerstein for that song. They should put a statue of both men next to Bill Shankley.
Real, carousel has the most beautiful music
❤️❤️❤️YNWA❤️❤️❤️
Just last week Tuesday, i lost my older brother, he was was just 32. He died in his sleep. He made me a Liverpool fan. He loved this club and was a stevie G fan. I sang the song at his funeral and I'll never forget how much we loved watching Liverpool. We would not speak because of some of the life choices he made. But one thing was for sure. Put us in front of a Liverpool game and it was peaches and roses. We cried together and celebrated together at every match we watched. And for that I'll forever love Liverpool football club and its anthem. You'll never walk alone Joe Joe K. You will forever be my brother😢❤
Liverpool fans are just iconic.
YNWA, Anfield, the Kop.
Look at the clubs that named their stand after the Kop. (PSG, Leeds, Forest, Wrexham, Guingamp, Birmingham city, Sheff Wednesday, Sheff Utd, Breda, etc).
Look how many clubs took inspiration of YNWA (Celtic, Dortmund, Mainz, Fayenoord)
3 words the KOP sang, "Where's our song" and a legend was born.
❤❤❤
Best club in the world
Lfc are the best club to support thru thick and thin
Let's not get carried away reds. There's still a long way to go. We need to keep going and keep picking up points. YNWA 🇮🇪
If you guys want to know more about the history of the song, john green has an "anthropocene reviewed" episode about it
YNWA 💪
I love L.F.C.
Best team oat
An old grandmother named Jane Hardwick a Man.Utd fan says You'll never walk alone was first sung by Man.Utd fans after the 1958 Munich class.
That's a myth concocted by Man Utd fans to wind-up Liverpool fans. It never happened.
I don’t think Arsenal fans know the words, just sounds like humming than singing.
Rip Gerry
They tried breaking Liverpool people and they PREVAILED! Scouse not English 💪🏾
As u say the song was in the charts for ages and when it left the charts it wasn't played at Anfield that's when the kop started singing it by themselves. Nothing to do with the edd sullivan show.!
Correct.
Absolutely!
It’s like church for secular English people
That’s the definition of the term “Sportsball”
We're not fkn English!
I love men
I love Nina Simone's version
Walk on
And still some Celtic fans claim they started singing it first 🤣
This is one thing we will never have on Liverpool. I wish we would change out boring intro song “the stones”...its so lame
Yh that and no of UCLs
Man united fans are nowhere near as iconic as Liverpool fans.
YNWA, Anfield, the Kop. Look at the clubs that named their stand after the Kop. (PSG, Leeds, Forest, Wrexham, Guingamp, Birmingham city, Sheffield Wednesday, FC Breda, etc).
Look how many clubs took inspiration of YNWA (Celtic, Dortmund, Mainz, Fayenoord)
At least you're not forever blowing bubbles, and as to Z Cars...
YNWA
tie un bon
I am curious why it was not mentioned that the song was first sung in the UK by Celtic Football Club in Scotland, prior to it becoming a Liverpool anthem??
Not disputing or anything, but do you have any proof that Celtic was the first football club to sing the song?
Liverpool was the first to sing it, source BBC
They stole the song 100%, criminals
Cause the Scottish premier isn't covered by NBC
😮
What about justice for the families of the Heysel victims? All LFC and the city of Liverpool had to pay was a UEFA ban. LFC, always the victims, never the baddies.
Celtic do it better 😅
My ~rse!
Behave!
I sincerely admire your irrational exuberance. Thanks for the laugh.
Celtic's version is pathetic.
@@johntate5050 no chance celtic got voted the best fans in Europe
But they still racist say what you want about the history of the anthem what's your fans are racist I'm so some of your players
Proof?
You could say that about every club in existence.
@@KhanCarnivore "You could say that about every club in existence."
That's not a good counter argument, mate.
@pastafarian7779 neither is your counter argument to me. Your reply has less basis than mine🤣🤣
Ultimately, every fan base of every club, statistically, is likely to have some racist fans. And potentially some racist players. That's humanity, I'm afraid.
There's always one loser playing the race card.
Lamest anthem in the history of anthems. It sounds like a cope. Are you crying when you say this? Do you need a hug? Did a woman write these lyrics while helping a girlfriend through a rough breakup? 🤣
Green is a horrible colour on you.
Yes. So?
Give it a rest John
Let's see. I can rely on how hearing 50,000+ fans singing in unison in support of their club affects me, and how opposing players and managers comment on what a special a moment it is to hear it and play at Anfield, or I can rely on you, a whiny killjoy on the Internet.
Hmmm, not a tough choice.
Your masculinity has been hurt, it seems.
Hi
❤❤❤
