Not only did he steal jokes, when he was confronted he straight up said “if you say something I like and can use, then I’m gonna take that shit and put it in my act.”
Mencia was the good guy. Why wasn’t schumer targeted in the same way? When someone doesn’t like you, your faults are amplified.

The comedy scene is a cult and once someone is canceled, the whole scene turns on them to save their careers. Same way Owen Benjamin was part of that scene for many years and was friends with all of them and now they won’t speak his name. Comedians today are scared of being canceled. What Joe did was pathetic, especially since Joe isn’t even a real comedian but in those days was in complete denial about it so he took a cheap shot at Carlos to up his name in the comedy world since he couldn’t get laughs.
Carlos was not the first comedian to get cancelled, I was the first comedian to get canceled. This is the reason you never heard of me.

Joe Rogan was the one who called out Carlos Mencia and shamed him at the comedy club but it was ultimately Carlos who phased himself out of the spotlight. There’s substantial evidence of many comedians whom claim Carlos their stole material and he never took accountability for it. If he had owned up to it years ago I still think he wouldn’t have been ultimately black balled.

Like myself, Vlad isn’t very well versed on the Carlos Mencia controversy. But you can tell he’s mainly siding with Carlos here because he interviewed him. From all the comments on Mencia’s interviews, it seems to me that Carlos was definitely in the wrong. But guess I should do my own research too lol

Mencia got exposed, not canceled. At that time Joe Rogan was David and Mencia was Goliath. It was not just justice, it was unlikely justice. It gave Rogan a well-earned push.

George Lopez did the joke on the Johnny Carson show before Mencia. It’s not just a Taco Bell joke. It’s the punch line “Chile” in that joke that make the theft ruthless. Just like the Cosby joke punch line “hi mom” per verbatim, stealing at its finest. With no remorse.
Ted Sarnowski did the joke before Lopez was on the Johnny Carson show. On a radio show, in front of Lopez. George didn't realize that Sarnowski gave the joke to Mencia to use years before. So George actually did it without permission. And when the press asked him about taking Sarnowski's joke, Lopez wouldn't answer. Don't take my word for it, look it up.

It’s baffling that Ned I mean Carlo is still trying to say he didn’t steal any jokes. Everyone knows and witnessed him stealing jokes verbatim. It’s no coincidence his career fell off after people started bringing up him stealing their jokes. He’s been hiding ever since.
Carlos unapologetically stole jokes. There’s so many examples like “Whose gonna build the boarder wall” was an Ari Shaffir joke. Word for word Carlos said “that butterfly tattoo is gonna look like a Pterodactyl” which is a famous Jeff Foxworthy joke. It’s sad because he had plenty of original material.
He’s definitely unapologetic and believes he did nothing wrong. It’s so crazy to watch him dance circles around a real answer to any question pertaining to his joke theft.
To be fair, the concept of needing the Mexicans to build the wall isn't a particularly unique topic.
I've literally seen at least 100 different comedians do their own take on the "when we were kids we were our parents' remote control" joke -- cuz every kid who grew up in the '60s & '70s WAS their parent's remote control. So many comedians mine the "we were so poor" well, that you're bound to have overlap. That being said, you gotta do your own TAKE, your own BIT -- not steal the entire set-up & punchline word for word

2:34 From what I read and heard throughout the years, I think the first comedian that was "cancelled" was Lenny Bruce. Bruce was banned from network TV unless there were heavy stipulations, and he was banned from nearly every nightclub for being too obscene, which at the time could get the nightclub in trouble. People weren't ready for Lenny Bruce, and his standups paved the way for Richard Pryor and others. Mencia is probably the first comedian cancelled in today's cancel culture.

Rogan and Carlos were in the same room together..Carlos confronted Rogan, not the other way around. Rogan had first hand knowledge of Mencia stealing. Who knows what he knew about Schumer, and Schumer had joke writers, Mencia didn’t

Neither of them were ever that funny on stage IMO... Rogan may have only just been known as “Fear Factor/sitcom guy from that one Chappelle sketch” but it wasn’t long after that, the UFC blew up and he started his podcast
the Carlos stuff causing Rogan to lose his manager, and getting banned from the club, I really think it played a big part in the podcast starting when it did & actually working
Rogan was already famous in his own right, just not as a comedian. He had done some sitcom work, but fear factor was huge on prime time at the time.
