The V 10 is very impressive but too neutral and unforgiving and in my taste It misses the point of musical enjoyment Unless of course It is being used by a soud engineer for evaluation. The R35 in my ooinion is the winner with Its more pleasant and balanced sound giving the best from dynamics neutrality and musical pleasure. Thank you so much for this video!
For me a single rega mk4 is the winner... The most important factor is the equipment mach. Ex: a system with too much bass hegel is bettwr option and viceversa... Thanks for your excellent test!!
Kjell, just a quick tip, be sure to try different cartridge loadings to get the best system match if you have not already done so. While Hana recommends a resistance setting of ">100 ohms", most people assume that 100 ohms is the setting to choose (as I see you are using in the video), failing to note that it means "greater than" 100 ohms. The differing characteristics of the internal tonearm cabling and tonearm interconnect cable needs to be taken into account when making those settings. For example, when using a Denon DL103, with a similar load recommendation as the Hana ML of >100 ohms, I use 250 ohms with my R35, while Adam Price in the HFN review of the R35 found 400 ohms was best given his system. Jason Kennedy found similar considerations needed to be taken when he reviewed the R35 for HiFi+. With the hope this potentially helps you and others get the best from the R35, Terry
Thank you for vital info. I have actually tested the R35 with all Ohm settings and with my setup it sounded best at 100 Ohm. I will do another test of Ohm settings before I conclude which one to keep - V10 or R35. Again thank you for this feedback!
@@kjellhullen7347 sorry, but did not see this. And as social media is not the best communication forum, could I ask you to contact me through the help centre at primare.net? Thanks!
The Primare sounds more natural and has a fuller more musical sound. The V10 sounds a tad harsh and I think it may become fatiguing on longer listening sessions. This Primare would be my choice.
I have bought both these for camparison with a 30 day deliver back clause. I do not plan to compare the R15 - sorry! I will in a few days choose between the two
@@kjellhullen7347 I was considering V10, R35, and R15 and bought R15 at the end because it was almost half price of the other two. I am happy with it so far!
Changed to NAD M33 due to Dirac Live room correction capability. Very happy, but somtimes misses the sweet sound from the E-480. To cure that I turn off the room correction and get a confirmation that NAD M33 is better in my room (setup).
Hey thanks for the video. It looks like you've got the V10's gain setting to +5db. Have you tried +10 or +12 db ? what are your thoughts on how "quiet" it is ? Not sure if I'm being super picky but I find if I put it up any higher than the 60db on MC and using a 0.3mV cart(Quintet Black) I'm finding the more I have to turn up my Integrated however when I do that I seem to get more noise coming from the V10... at least more than I feel was advertised. Your thoughts ?
I have to admit that I after this video was made tested PS Audio Stellar Phono Preamp. It is more expensive but it is worth the mony - it is really good and has a remote to change gain and impedance as you play music. After I got the PS Audio RiiA I do experiment much more than before with the RiiA setting. Doing it during listening makes the A to B comparison much easier. I find that each recording has it own optimal combination of RiiA settings, it is all related to my personal taste and even my mood. I guess you are right on your comments, but I am not able to test and verify it since the Hegel now is gone from my setup.
@@kjellhullen7347Hello, This is Michael from Taiwan. I am considering to choose between primare r35 and ps audio stellar. I am considering if it is worth to spend 1000usd more to choose Ps audio ?two of them are good, but it's hard to find the one for me.
@@kjellhullen7347do you mean ayre is better than those two at it's price point? thanks, I will try to find Ayre to listen since ps audio rise price to Usd 2999😅😅
That is a nice system I'm going to try to prime mirror phono amp I think that VPI turntable is kind of holding the system down a little bit nice system though
Hehe.. well this test is unfair. nadM33 a 100% digitael amp with purify teknologi, dos not have the best handshake with Hege V10. Yoy should try Hegel 390 amp with V10 this wit sound 20% better. The R35 dont stand a chanse. I have listend to all combos, with all hegel amps, all Nad amps
Primare for sure, more slam and dynamic. Clear even through RUclips.

Thanks for the comparison! Which pre amp do you prefer? It would be great if you can also compare v10 to Primare R15!

to my ear, Primare is more detail and Clear and fast.
Hegel V10--WINNER
The Hegel is more refined, less colored
primare more musical than hegel
R35 for me sound more musical and punchy
I found R35 more dynamic, but a bit to aggressive in the highs to my taste.
V10👍
I thought the Hegel sounded more natural.
Agree!
