- Although rare, effigies were relief or carved into the tools. Much depended on the composition of the stone and the general shape of the tool that was being made.
Wonderful pieces as usual!! Turtle and bird looks like to me as well as possible tools. Thanks for putting up the video!! Happy New Year! 😘💞✌
All three, superbly crafted effigies. Thank you for the
great presentation. Looking forward to your next showing.
Such beautiful pieces. Thx for showing these.
Absolutely beautiful! I gasped when you picked the first one up. The wing inlay is spectacular. The little matching pieces could have been by the same artist! They are such a similar style! Love these ones!
Thanks for the comment!
I have a few stone tools I've found in south alabama I would like to send you a recording of them an get your opinion on them
Thanks for posting. I find things similar to the last piece you showed. It looks slightly used on the pointed end and the opposite end has those stained flat facets. Makes me wonder why they wouldn’t have rounded that area off. Maybe it was inserted into a handle and left flat so it wouldn’t split the wooden handle. The one edge you mentioned is polished has a bevel worn down on it as if that was a grinding surface or is was ground down to thin that area for a specific purpose. Just thinking out loud. Take care and thanks again for sharing your collection.
thats a fine birdstone.
They are ordinary water worn stones
Said the ordinary punk
I've found several possible effigies that I think might've been made to look like two different animals (usually bird/turtle} when looked at front-to-back versus back-to-front. For example, your second effigy does indeed look like a turtle, but I think that is also very much looks like a fish when looked at in the other direction. (The dimple on it actually made me think "fish" first because it's where the eye would be.) Of course, I might just be seeing things, but it's happened often enough that it seemed like an intended pattern to me.
Thanks for the comment. If we could only ask the person who made them.
Effigies!
Those are so cool.
What do you think they are?
@@ericschmuecker348. You’re not too bright, are you? First time using the Internet? You’ve been spending your time calling BS on Native American artifacts, but I doubt you’ve ever held one on your hand. You know nothing about how they’re made, what they’re made of, or what they should look like. You certainly have never researched NA artifacts, never read any of the materials written by Strong, Yeager, et al. Yet you, an illiterate mouth-breather sitting in his dank, cramped apartment dares to cast judgement on what is an authentic artifact. If you’ve needed affirmation that you have no value to society, consider this your confirmation.
