Good video. Thank you. I do recommend changing the oil plug crush washer with each oil change. If you buy the Moto Guzzi oil change kit you will find that it comes with the crush washer, and also the oil filter o ring.m
I recomend everybody to verify the tightening of the bolts of the cracnkcase and also aply some bolt sealer (medium range) for the protector. As a good Guzzi is better to check the valve clearence and re-tight the cylinderhead, everytime you make maintenace (And if you can do parameters reset with the Piaggio or similar diagnosis tool to help the magneti marelli ecu to make the base injection map😊) it'a an advice from a senior Moto Guzzi tecnician✌️😎
What Johnny Bravo said - I replace the filter's crush washer and O-Ring (along with the drain plug's crush washer) with every change. It's cheaper than the annoyance of having do deal with an oil leak because I tried to save a couple of bucks. BTDT & got the T-shirt. A note on draining the oil - if you prop up the front wheel with the bike on the center stand, it tilts the engine a bit to the rear and you get a better drain.

Thanks for the video, I needed a sanity check as I couldn't get my oil filter cover to come off the lower sump even after tapping with a wooden dowel. I dropped the lower sump and even trying to tap the cover out from what would be the inside didn't cause it to move at all. Currently the lower sump is sitting in a machine shop and I hope they can release the filter cover and I can move on with things. Best guess is that the shop that last did the oil change over torqued the cover and crushed the o-ring and jammed the cover into the sump. No surprise when owning a Moto Guzzi, the shop is 230 miles away and not really convenient to get the bike to them with the lower sump off.
How about a video on the do's and don'ts of checking the engine oil level of the V85TT and any quirks there may be with the model? Why? I am happy I understand the basics of checking the level when the engine is warm and the bike is on the main stand on level ground with the ideal level being between the upper and bottom white lines. The bike has less than 4000 miles on the clock, it is not burning oil and it does not have even a miniscule leak anywhere! Puzzling!!!
Man! Your bike sounds like a tractor almost lol! Pretty cool! Thanks for the how to! You mentioned that its common to see metal shavings in the old oil when draining. Why do you check oil level with it on the centre stand? It's meant to be checked standing on the wheels, they don't even have a centre stand stock on the base bike. It will look empty on stand even when it's half way full
Actually, there is no difference at all whether it is standing upright on the tires or standing upright on the center stand. It will still read the same. It will read different on the side stand.
@@cubbysue it reads differently on stand to on tyres, I've tested this myself, it reads low if you measure on centre stand. Of course it reads wrong leaning on the side stand, I'm not suggesting anyone check oil like that. The angle of the sump is different when it's on the centre stand compared to flat on the tyres, because the back wheel is off the ground. This causes the level to read differently in the sight glass.
It is a Bluetooth device that allows you to interact with the bike through an app you install on your phone. It's $200 and it's awful. Moto Guzzi should be ashamed at how poorly it works. When it does work, it is a way for them to track and sell personal information about you. It is also a nanny that data logs to show things like max speed, duration of trip and a few other things that they could use against you for a warranty claim.
@@cubbysue Thanks. I have an OBD2 reader and I wondered if it was something similar. There's an MT-09 and a CB750K2 in my garage too.
@@cubbysue the data is held on the app. On your phone and not sent to Moto Guzzi, if you clear data or reinstall the data is gone. I have it and used it a lot on long trips and find the satnav really useful, I don't want the phone on the handlebars most of the time. I don't need the navigation either most of the time but I use the music streaming function every day I ride. Having control of the music from the handlebars is great, and also the intercom when pillion is on is useful too, especially because I can turn it off when I need to concentrate in traffic. The MIA also allows you to use voice assistant by holding the heated grips button in, so it's possible to start apps, make calls etc. Without even taking your phone out of your pocket.
You're running those skid plate bolts in wayyy too far.....1 or 2 turns, just to get them started so you have maximum movement of the plate and that will makes things a lot easier.
As all other people, they do not know the O ring will last many years, but you also made the mistake NOT to change the aluminum gasket on the bolt. Now you might have oil dripping’ NOT because of the O ring, but because the aluminum gasket HAS to be changed every time.
@@oluffriesthomsen7680 Well. I hate to say it, but you are wrong. It doesn't leak, drip, seep or otherwise lose oil from the drain plug. When it gets too smashed, I do replace it with a copper one. That is usually about every third or fourth oil change.

The first service on my Centenario was done by my local MG dealer but I intend to do all the work myself in future.
I'm in Douglas, Isle of Man, just a few metres from the TT Course.
Krasava as we say in Russia
Where did you order the filter from?
I normally buy the oil and filter from my local dealership, but you can find deals on the filters on ebay from time to time.
@@cubbysue my local dealer is 200 miles away lol
@@BetaRacer24 Road trip!
@@cubbysue cant, bike needs an oil change😂😂
Mail order
How do you reset the service light?
I still have to take mine into the dealership for that, but the guys at Gateway Cycles do it for me for free.
@@cubbysue Oh, okay, I was hoping there was a way to do it in my house, because in my dealer they charge me 20€ for it
@@Motion_0112 I wish my dealer charged that little! Their minimum is 30min labour, about USD75.
My suspicious is that your oil was draining slowly because your fill plug was still in. Remove it first to release the vacuum ;)
Bamberg in Germany?
That's the one. Don't tell them that I stole their sign.
@@cubbysue no problem :-)
How do you reset de ecu en reset de miles?
I take mine to the dealer and do it but the Mia will also do it if you have one.
Unfortunately on the v85 the dealer is the only way. My dealer will not do it unless they do the service.
@@cubbysue Looks like MIA is on my wish list.
Merci beaucoup l'Ami
Thanks a lot 😎✌️🍺🍺🍺
👌👍
thanks for sharing
Well with the v7 I aint got to pull the skid plate off lol.
You'll pull the whole engine off if you go where this thing goes without a skid plate...
@@nikos-giorgos LOL, yes, indeed.

Then i must have been lucky the last 35 years reparing Guzzies.
