I walked into a authorized dealer in Manhattan in good faith looking to purchase a Rolex for my son at the time who just graduated medical school. He asked me if if I ever purchased a Rolex before I told him no then talked about the Watch I was interested and he told me I am probably looking at two years I walked out. I went to 47nd St. and purchased a Rolex that I wanted. I paid a little bit more than retail but I got what I wanted.
That is exactly how it is supposed to be. If one wants just one Rolex model and nothing else the authorized dealer is not selling it to customers with no purchase history if that model sells higher than Msrp on the pre- owned market because it is not fair to the customer that requested that model and has been loyal to the brand and has bought solid 18 karat gold watches for $10,000 higher at Msrp than at the secondary market for $10,000 less! Would it be fair that customers that paid an extra 10k for the solid gold watch not get the stainless steel instead the person with no purchase history get it????
@@oscarlopez-gc1pvyou honestly believe that what you said makes any sense? You do know that the so called wait list is an AD list and not a Rolex list? I would really just go to another dealer if they pulled this stunt on me because if they did so they are just trying to scam you. If service is good and you got what you wanted guess what, you probably go back, but if they did something like this no way I would go back. It shouldn't matter if you have any history with the AD, you want something they order it for you if not in stock, the dealer does not know when it will arrive but once it does they call you that's how it's supposed to go. I talked to an honest AD and they told me they can order any model but they don't know up front what's shipped to them only when it arrives. So yeah you might have to wait some time but ADs don't know what's coming.
the only rolex i would buy is a ss Daytona. If they have it in stock i would buy it otherwise fuck them....i dont have time to waste with their bullshit.
In 2018 I walked into a Rolex dealer in Canary Wharf the day after a Rolex event. I asked about Sub (date and no date) and GMT II. Was told no chance for a Sub but if I wanted a GMT II then I could have one. I left a 20 percent deposit and got the watch in 2 months, no previous purchase history. Recently (2023) I went into a newly opened Rolex authorised dealer and asked about getting another stainless sports watch and the impression I got was that I was going to need to buy a lot of the stuff they couldn't sell just to get a chance to buy one. The only other Rolex's I'd have would be a white gold yacht master or a Tiffany dial OP 41
100% Nonsense. Those awful customers are so sneaky. I feel sorry for the Rolex ADs. Really though, why do you think those tricks started? Thats right, because the ADs are so untrustworthy and try to sell people other items in the hope they will get the actual watch they are after. When Rolex clamp down on the shady practices of their ADs then we might see some normality return.
That's a bunch of BS. No dealers actually care about the buyer. They only care about ONE thing and one thing ONLY - their bottom line. I've had AD's that flat out tell me "why would my boss sell to anyone for retail when he can sell under the table for 3 times the price?" All AD/SA only care about their jobs and making $$$, some are just nicer about it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Thanks again for the informative video... In this case, does being honest and straight means they AD will also be honest with us? Will they in turn tell us that in order to get that basic non sports model Oyster perpetual, they will say they do not have stock for this model direct us to buy other non-moving brands in their store? I'm skeptical to be honest and direct to them as I thought it might be a double edged sword in this case. This is my 2 cents...
The whole Rolex experience is a giant nightmare and a scam. My retirement is coming up and I wanted to treat myself and the nonsense and the games they put me through sent me to a different brand. You go into an authorized dealer and Rolex wants to sell you a used or pre-owned model at three times the retail price. Whole system is of disaster and people should just revolt and tell Rolex that they can keep their damn watches. Are they nice Yes but begging for a watch and a bunch of nonsense and waiting lists and three times the price for a pre-owned version versus retail which is like a fantasy and all the watches marked for display only. There are so many other brands that are not playing these ridiculous games I would just go look for something else.
Excellent and awesome vedio on Rolex authorized dealers. You have elaborated vedio well on what we must avoid. This is really educative vedio. Looking forward for more vedios.
I don’t believe that ADs pay that much attention to the details mentioned. They sell mostly to persons suggested by their CRM system, and not to people who play by their rules. Why are ä so many brand new watches available on the grey, if ADs pay that much attention to detail.
This video provides an insightful glimpse into the world of Rolex watch flipping and the hurdles confronted by authorized dealers. It's truly eye-opening to understand the complexities involved in this market.
How can i purchase a Submariner I'm a 68 year old man looking to get myself a watch i owe it to myself i live 10 min. north of Boston Ma. any info would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance John T.
Buy it on the second market from a reputable dealer .. The markup on a Submariner is very low. Perhaps a grand or two .. You are too old to waste time waiting for the AD to call you. Enjoy it tomorrow.
So beautiful video valuable tips avoiding pitfalls with Rolex Authorized Dealers is a game changer for watch enthusiasts great insight to ensure a smooth experience thanks for sharing
I did that in 2021, I wasn’t happy. My omega Seamaster 300m chronograph had nothing but issues since the second I bought it. It got traded on a new datejust a few weeks ago.
Taking the dealers time for them to show you their watches…. It’s their job to do so. Besides, it’s not like there’s so many people in the store and their time is so thin.. such crap.
My AD is great. They call, I go to the store and check out the watch. If I believe she would complement my collection, it's done, otherwise I pass and thank the A D for presenting the watch for consideration. They know that I actually use the watches for there intended purpose, not just a bling/hype status. And yes, I have turned down a few Rolex watches because I really don't do the bling thing. Though I did buy certain Rolexes that I never thought of owning, I am quite happy with the A D's suggestion, ex. the sky dweller on a jubilee bracelet, 2 tone, white dial. She's one of my favorite dayly watches. I did consider the president once, but this sky dweller is much more practical with extras.😊😊❤
...and now that I've been to Japan and personally seen the hoards of Rolex watches both new and used on offer, I can truthfully say the law of economics 101 will soon intervene as it always does. Supply and demand. Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto are awash with Rolex.. I chose a VC of which only about 20,000 were made over the millions of Rolex. I know I got the better deal!
A bit one sided, I don't disagree with your suggestions, however AD's world-wide have turned into watch museums with a store full of Exabition only "watches, a bit of a time waster for a serious customer looking for a Rolex. Thus, driving the market to the exorbitant aftermarket, while Rolex somehow is still having record breaking company sales.
While high price and demand necessitates scarcity, had they produced in higher quantities and made them more available and less exclusive, it would crash the second hand market. But that would mean less people would be interested in a common product and to drive sales, they would need to price them at closer to cost and lose that profit margin created by its exclusivity. Same this goes on with ferrarri, Lamborghini, porsche, and corvettes. Comes with the territory. Many enthusiasts have claimed that cheaper brands have just as high quality watches at a sliver of the price, seiko, casio, these are all great at keeping time and producing the same quality yet due to their exclusivity rolex's and ap's cost as much as a car or house. It comes with the territory if they produce an appreciating investment. Also, people goto many car dealerships and test drive many cars before sighing those loan docs, with a watch that costs as much, they shouldnt expect buyers to commit as easily on something thats a luxury and not a necessity.
Absolutely! It's a fine watchmaking drama where integrity meets strategy, reminding us that in the world of luxury watches, true value extends beyond the dial.
I want to buy submariner. Not sure which one to buy TT black and gold or SS. I have a friend who works at Rolex who can get me either watch in 30 days. I can’t decide!?!? I am 41 yrs old married with 2 kids. I am not a flashy guy so I automatically want the SS. But I like the TT look. I just don’t know if I would feel too self conscious in it since it’s more flashy. I don’t like attention. I like to be under the radar. I would also only wear it on the weekends due to my job and area I work at. Im not planning on purchasing multiple Rolex watches. So I want to make the right choice. I like the TT look but I think I would feel more comfortable in the blending original classic SS. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
Wanted a Rolex my whole life. Now that could afford one or two, I can’t even get one. Went into one AD and put my name on the waiting list like a year and half ago, nothing… I was thinking of going a different AD and try again…
I have never met an AD that was anything but underhanded in any retail brick-and-mortar shop. I did meet one at Dubai Duty-Free and one in Singapore DF.
Problem is AD’s have a client list of 300+ names all looking for a Daytona and they’ll receive MAYBE 5 models a year. So what are they to do? It’s not first come first serve. The Rolex authorized dealers know which models sell higher than Msrp on the secondary market and the first in line to get them are loyal customers that have bought watches that trade well below Msrp so it should balance out loose 10k to 15k on some models but make 5k to 10k back on others if they ever want to sell them or trade them for something else. They are not giving watches that trade higher than Msrp on the secondary market to people with no purchase history!!!!!!!!

Questioning the authenticity of their merchandise without valid reason can be insulting and may lead to a strained relationship.
Rolex : The Ferrari of watches.
How does the AD know the buyer is looking to flip the watch?
Made it less than one minute in. Lost me when you said ADs care. 😂
If I ever am in the position to buy a Rolex , you’d be hard pressed to get it off my wrist! I’d wear them with pride and have some exquisite watches to hand down to my kid.
I don’t care what’s popular or trendy. Watches are to be enjoyed , not a money making scheme.
Rolex could put a stop to a lot of this and just open their own boutiques.
Buy a Longines Spirit Titanium 40mm & be happy 🚀 much much much better than all Rolexes...
Insightful video, exposing the shady practices surrounding hard-to-get Rolex models sheds light on industry challenges
Why even bother with Rolex at all ?
Lmao this video has to be satire
Or made by a language model :V
Great tip! Respect the process and make your Rolex purchase smoother. Thanks for sharing!

There’s so much hype surrounding Rolex along with all the fakes it’s no longer a viable watch, I’ll go with other brands.
Nice
Sound balance is not good.
