Amazing summary by Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi akka. "Punarapi Jananam, Punarapi Maranam" ! Been playing veena for about 35 years now. Real eye opener statement. The real effort in playing veena is about how to give birth to a note and how to put it to rest so that the next one can take life.
The speaker has absolute mastery over the instrument which is combined with the outstanding abilities of metacognition and a simplified way of communicating her ideas. Hats off 👏 👏👏. Cudos to the Academy for sharing such lecdems through RUclips. 👍
Absolutely educative and amusing lecture demonstration. Jayanthi Akka truly deserves the title 'Vidushi', which is, otherwise, quite loosely used today for anyone and everyone who takes the stage. This lec-dem leaves us wanting more. Thanks to Akka for this session. Best wishes to Music Academy for this and similar endeavors.
Absolutely beautiful.. gamaka concept explained in a very understandable way.. although Vocalist seems to have control on what to sing better than instrumentalist, to decode music and understand it better, Instrumentalists have an advantage than Vocalists.
So eloquent, simple, sophisticated, grounded...not sure if I have more words to articulate the knowledge and the delivery by madam ! Vidwan sarvatra pujyate 🙏
Such a knowledgeable and beautiful presentation.❤ Vidushi Jayanthi never fails to impress whenever she ascends the stage - as a performer, as a lec dem presenter or simply sharing her vidwat through her innumerable you tube videos on her channel.
@1:08 the Lady with the Lamp is not by Raja Ravi Varma a is popularly misunderstood.. it is by S L en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glow_of_Hope Having said that it is as usual a typically classy and wonderful presentation by Dr Jayanthi Kumaresh. She is an amazing story teller on top of being a great musician
Fantastic presentation Jayanthi ji. Your indepth knowledge/ Vidwath about music and Veena came across beautifully in your presentation. It was a pleasure to listen to . Thank you Music academy for this lecdem.
Best saraswathi veena player in Lec & dem. Good knowlege in carnatic music. Subject is Raga Alapana. Refererred raga kamboji. It was beautifully different way rendered by Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer & Madurai Mani Iyer. It is fact & well explained by Jayanthi Kumaresh. Good LecDem
In my little understanding Hindustani music has evolved fundamentally from Drupad school/ style which was performed/ practised mostly using Rudra veena capable of producing long notes and meend.
The violin came into existence because the Veena can't sustain a note for a long period. Sounds like a shortcoming / a defect ?! The short sustenance of the swaram makes the ' punarapi jananam' possible?! Sounds like a merit!! So it is person behind the instrument who can convert a defect into a merit with the magic in his/her fingers. It is true that we speak what we think and we play what we sing silently in our mind. Watch the facial expressions of the instrumentalists. You can see the music they are going to play in their face, before we can hear it on their instruments.

Beautiful! Highly informative.

By the way, the lady with the lamp painting "Glow of Hope" is a painting by Sawlaram Haldankar and not Raja Ravi Varma.

Yes very useful
Excellent presentation. Thank you. Does this mean that Gotu Vaadyam is better suited for Carnatic Music than the fretted Veena?

Discussion may be fabulous if done in a language known to majority. I am not able to understand Tamil.
