    How to Sew Steering-Wheel Horizontal Junctions - Car upholstery
    Some of my users have requested me to show a way to approach the horizontal sewing junctions done on a steering-wheel rim cover.
    Genearlly these junctions are done both sides on the upper part of the wheel.
    An adjusting plastic clamp is useful to align, mark and make 3 to 4 mm cut on the rubber rim. A cavity is formed around the rim where the short seams (3 mm approx.) will house into, in order to get, a plain surface on top (vinyl or leather)
    The junction edges (vinyl or leather) are cut following the contour of the recess done on the rim.
    The issue to approach is that we need to sew a concave edge to a convex edge. On a regular basis the concave edge should be sewn down to the convex edge at one go. A mold in vinyl would be of great help to get an exact measure, hence, a precise sewing on the real pieces.
    I hope you find this tip useful!
    Cesar

    Thank you for this very educational video. May I ask how much space you have to keep with the leather in connection with the stretchability with a completely round steering wheel and 4 junctions?

      Unfortunately, I have no complete videos related to a 4 junctions steering-wheel. I have in mind to post a full course in the near future. Each part should be shaped individually and fitted like a glove.

      As shown in the video the keys are the making of a mold in that area out of a piece of cheap vinyl. The second important tip to ease the sewing is a narrow seam allowance.

      El local se llama Tauro de Occidente y está a un costado de donde venden los pigmentos para pintar piel. Otra referencia es que está frente a la Tilicheria.
      La dirección es calle Federación 1618 San Juan Bosco Guadalajara, Jalisco.

    What kind of pencil do you use to write on leather ? I have tried chalk pencil with no success

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Год назад +1

      I used a white waxed pencil. The point was sharpened with a knife. A silver leather marking pen is also useful. The marks are erased with mineral spirits(white gasoline). It applies for top finished leathers, vinyls and some fabrics. Do a test beforehand.
