VICE will always stand out as the best of the best inside Journalism, in my opinion. Brave journalists who visits different conflicts, endanger themselves, props to them. VICE is superb journalism! They show us more of the truth around the world than CNN, CBS, Fox, BBC, Sky and all those other major news shows. Or better said, VICE is all about reality than trivial things that a lot of the other named news corporates usually do.
Not really. The graphic material is exquisite as always and the information given too, but vice needs to get rid of this reporter. Its too hard to understand his dialect and considering the fact that you are a reporter writing or filming for a paper that has an international youtube channel you cannot talk that way. It gets a bit better while watching but this dude needs to change his job; Put yourself in my position: you enjoy VICE a lot and want to understand something that they are referring to in a Doc, but the guy talking speaks with scottish or irish accent and you only understand half of what he says? sad sad :( ONE LOVE
lukaj1n That is very strange. It may be because I am from Canada and am more use to the accent that the reporter has but I could understand him perfectly well.
lukaj1n Yeah did you ever think it's just you who can't understand the video and there are other people in the world that it's perfectly clear to? Ignorant Americans man.
That really was some good reporting. That took balls of steel for sure. It looks like South Sudan is a shit storm at the moment. Government forces better come up with a more solid plan of attack if else they are going to lose control.
I've said it before, but I'll say it again; this guy is one of Vice's best journalists. Egyptian riots? Covered. Syrian war? Covered. South Sudanese conflict? Fucking covered. Also, he isn't an arrogant little hipster like the others.
yea, many of them are untrained, and this is probably the first battle for most of them. The real SPLA soldiers retired after the Independence, those were well trained soldiers, they were disciplined, unlike these poorly trained soldiers that lack discipline.
This is the kind of thing I want to get involved in after college. Complete immersive reporting. There's no more of a service a journalist can do for the world than risking their own safety so the world can be brought sights and facts they otherwise would be ignorant of.
Can I just say. This reporter is so good, it is unreal. I am surprised he isn't working for the BBC as a war correspondent. That and the fact that even under fire, he is calm.
I'm from south sudan, but I was raised in the United States. I'm nuer, the ethnicity of the rebels, and I'm not taking sides, but there does need to be a change in Juba. Ever since we got our independence the dinka have been in power and were inclined to keep it. So they discriminated against many other ethnic groups such as the nuer to keep their role the government small and maintain control. I'm not trying to justify the rebels, I think they are also to blame, but we can't be a new nation with the same ideals as the old. I fear for not only my relatives in juba, but for the nation as a whole.
Finally some real press coverage that doesn't gloss over the reality of things, props to the reporter too, I would imagine you'd need to have serious nerves to keep your head like he did.
Awesome. But not knowing a lot about this conflict I'd wish for some more background information. E. g. I have no idea what Nuer are or why they are fighting.
paul8m3 We can't get them easily in America /: Norinco is banned import if you can get one they cost around $2000+ for a semi-auto version lol ( The Polytech Type 56 Bakelite side folder that is ). Its funny though, that expensive AK in Africa probably cost them a chicken & a bag of rice
If the citizens of the US were valuable in winning oil rights for china, norincos would cost almost nothing. Its likely that they are given at bottom dollar to any faction willing to fight for china's influence in any region of the world, that has oil reserves. But being that they're expense is due to some bullshit legislation in the 90s, its sad for the collectors and sportsmen alike.
Did anybody else find it ironic to hear an SPLA general at the beginning of this video saying that the rebel army doesn`t have a right to fight and belittling rebels as being untrained and undisciplined? I mean the SPLA was a rebel army for virtually its entire existence.
I discovered VICE yesterday, you guys are GREAT! Most journalists just copy everything, but you guys just make really good items :-) Keep up the good work!
Do these «Generals» have any notion of strategy and tactics at all? I mean: numeric superiority, technological superiority, support from the country, granted supplies and reinforcements... And they STILL get beaten by a smaller and badly equipped force, without even trying to put on a fight. I don't know who is correct: the rebels or the state, but if the state is protecting what is right, then those people are in very bad hands.
I pray for your peace South Sudan, you've come such along way to secede from the Khartoum Government, I hope the bloodshed ends soon and your people will prosper.
Shit like this and what was happening in C.A.R. throughout December never ceases to make me feel incredibly guilty for how irresponsibly most members of rich, developed nations live. If there was any justice, it would be North Americans who live in constant unrest, violence, and fear.
wrarmatei Consider the role in which America (because let's be honest, you WERE speaking solely about America, not Mexico or Canada) makes other countries in the world 'terrible' places to live?! I don't NEED to consider shit! So, my country, in some way, makes the government of YOUR country inept enough that it has NO control of the welfare of it's citizens to the point that we are able to exploit them in a negative way? First, if that's true, then the problem doesn't seem to be with America, it seems to be with your pansy-ass government that doesn't have the balls to stand up and take care of it's own. Second, the US gives BILLIONS to other countries in aid every year. Those BILLIONS could be better spent at home feeding OUR sick, homeless and hungry. Yet it goes to YOU ungrateful little bastards. You're welcome! Third, me thinks that most of the people that have a problem with the US are really just envious and insanely JEALOUS of our prosperity and economical and technological mastery. Again, maybe the problem is with your own country. Maybe your government should stop worrying about handouts and start to actually work on bringing it's citizens and it's part of the world into the 21st century like we have. And if not, then stop putting your fucking hand out or beg for aid when the next typhoon or earthquake levels one of your cities. You see the US begging for aid when WE have a problem? NO! We take care of it, ON OUR OWN! Just try to do the same and MAYBE you'll earn our respect!
***** I guess so that they can learn how fight their enemy effectively. I'm not someone that agree's with war, but it does seem stupid to just run away from gunfire instead of organising yourselves, taking cover, and identifying where the gunfire is coming from. FACT. These guys don't know how to fight.
101publicenemy I wasn't planning on providing a fucking step by step instruction manual. I literally was just stating the obvious, get off my fucking case.
101publicenemy I'm kinda' just getting tired of having to back-up my very obvious fucking claims, from people that can't read my comment and accept it's validity.
Their Caucasian military adviser is really doing a shit job... they are wearing sandals for Christ sake! Also before teaching them how do DRILL, teach them of to properly respond to an ambush/attack.
Having been in Afghanistan reporting in boggles my mind how poor marksman ship seems to be the norm in non-euro countries. With the exception of Oman. This is why the French Foreign Legion mopped the floor with Africa against over whelming odds. Regardless, all this violence is sad and senseless .
This guy has got some balls. This is real journalism.

A lot of respect for this journalist, brave man to be right in the thick of it. I wish all of Vices journalists were as good as him.
the war sponsored by: TOYOTA
THIS is the vice I've missed for so long.. Raw docu footage right from the front line.. Eye opening to say the least. Keep up the good work vice!
Big respect for this guy, going into warzones like this. Especially sat talking into the camera whilst bullets whiz overhead lol
i think talking to the camera was a way to hold his nerve and distract himself from the fact he could be shot at any moment haha
holly shit your a brave ass reporter. hats off to you sir.
Holy crap! Brilliant and ballsy reporting!
Hey BusanKevin ! Love your videos bro, I didn't know you watch Vice video too ...sweet !
Not really. The graphic material is exquisite as always and the information given too, but vice needs to get rid of this reporter. Best VICE reporter by a mile.
He needs to be picked up by the BBC.
FUN FACT: THE BBC REPORTER IS WITH THIS GUY IN THIS VIDEO. YOU CAN SEE HIM AT SOME PARTS
NOW THIS IS JOURNALISM, IN THE SHIT!
That journalist seems braver than half these men.
I've said it before, but I'll say it again; this guy is one of Vice's best journalists. Egyptian riots? Covered. Syrian war? Covered. South Sudanese conflict? Fucking covered. Also, he isn't an arrogant little hipster like the others.
What a poorly lead army
yea, many of them are untrained, and this is probably the first battle for most of them. The real SPLA soldiers retired after the Independence, those were well trained soldiers, they were disciplined, unlike these poorly trained soldiers that lack discipline.
By far the most graphic Vice documentary!!!!!!!!!!
This reporter is defiantly a good one. I've watched another one of his. And just as good
Fantastic reporting.
it's like a scary disney ride...
much respect to this fellow, and these soldiers. brave people indeed
Great journalism. Thanks.
Journalism at its absolute best. No other news corporation is half as brave or in-depth as Vice.
wow you have some big balls for doing this
I cant believe this kind of journalism still exist really puts your mind with these people. good job
This guy has balls of steel
This is the kind of thing I want to get involved in after college. Complete immersive reporting. There's no more of a service a journalist can do for the world than risking their own safety so the world can be brought sights and facts they otherwise would be ignorant of.
did you end up doing it?
Holy shit, this is a very good documentary, you've got balls of steel sir !
this reporter has balls of steel! hands down !!!
Possibly the best journalist I've ever witnessed.
Can I just say. This reporter is so good, it is unreal. I am surprised he isn't working for the BBC as a war correspondent. That and the fact that even under fire, he is calm.

this guy have balls of steel man ... :D
A pair of Imperial Guard standard issue Adamantium balls.
He's white, he perfectly knows he's safe.
thanks vice for the reporting..cheers
True journalism that we will never ever see on lame stream media in T.V. which I no longer even watch.
My friends right now - Have you watched Extraction?
.
Me - watching documentaries from Vice
I don't make jokes about war.
We must keep fighting for peace!
'murica ?
XDRosenheim
At least we're doing something.
I too like to shit on people from the sidelines.
My Stoner Mind what ? It's you my favorite youtuber 😂😂
Yes, we must murder, rape and torture more people for peace! Good idea, and great logic. Good job!
Who was that blurred man? Probaly Lord of War
I saw that...maybe CIA or French DGSE...
12:20 for people that didnt catch that
That was Obama
LOL, he's everywhere
The vice we all love. A reporter with an unbiased out look on the situation. That's not afraid to get raw footage.
Very intense footage!! Stay safe over there
A+ journalism!
Awesome! Can't wait for the next one!!
All those BEAUTIFUL Norinco weapons man ):
I feel like a prick wishing I had a few of their bakelite mags.
Heres something interesting, watch 'conflict in south sudan: dispatch three' for possible reasons for the availability of those norinco rifles.
paul8m3 We can't get them easily in America /: Norinco is banned import if you can get one they cost around $2000+ for a semi-auto version lol ( The Polytech Type 56 Bakelite side folder that is ). Its funny though, that expensive AK in Africa probably cost them a chicken & a bag of rice

paul8m3 Yep. My milled Norinco MAK-90 cost $200 brand new in the box in the 90's Iol.
Damn good reporting! Keep up the amazing work guys. Thank you VICE Crew for putting your lives on the line filming the stuff that you do.
thisvis journalism at its best.. I salute you
talk about having some big balls and going in there to film.. got damn! respect.
Is Toyota funding this war
more precisely, they're sponsoring it.
In every conflict in any underdeveloped country, you'll see Toyota trucks with rusty machine guns mounted on the back,
Toyota's trucks are pretty cheap compared to other companies.
Toyota are reliable that's why underdeveloped country have tons of them.
TheThomQ The Toyota Hilux is basically a Tank, as proved by Top Gear.
Did anybody else find it ironic to hear an SPLA general at the beginning of this video saying that the rebel army doesn`t have a right to fight and belittling rebels as being untrained and undisciplined? I mean the SPLA was a rebel army for virtually its entire existence.
This is why I watch Vice!
incredible and intense
I love VICE always raw and uncut!
Vice is the only group producing real journalism currently
Thanks, reminded me of the reporters during Nam.
Imagine if they had humvees, weights, protein shakes, and a little more advanced training, they would truly be a special force
who is the blurred out guy at 12:18 and 12:27?
That was terrifying ...
I'm so glad I found this Vice channel. The internet was getting fucking boring......
Holy shit this is the coolest thing done by Vice, possibly ever!
I'd say their soldiers definitely need training. There's a reason why the United States is at the top when it comes to military.
Yes. $.
I discovered VICE yesterday, you guys are GREAT! Most journalists just copy everything, but you guys just make really good items :-) Keep up the good work!
This reporter is the best, right in the action and great commentary. Real professional.
Amazing video
such a courageous reporter. brilliant work.
6:10 Holy shit. I want that buggy! Look at that thing :D At least these guys know how to armour vehicles!
Full respect for a journalist!
All Mr cool soldiers until shit goes crazy then they run!! they need training
Crazy! Awesome journalism right there!
There should be subtitles for the reporter too
Do these «Generals» have any notion of strategy and tactics at all? I mean: numeric superiority, technological superiority, support from the country, granted supplies and reinforcements... *looks at most modern superpowers*
Great piece of reporting, it really gives a sense of the situation on the ground. Guy for sure needs a raise as suggested already!
Seriously ballsy journalism
I'm sorry but what kind of army is that? Seems to me they had no idea what they were doing
No medic? Bizarre.
Terrifying
06:08....The Halo looking vehicle with mounted machine gun is an EPIC DIY armory.
The reporter has got some balls of solid brass.
I pray for your peace South Sudan, you've come such along way to secede from the Khartoum Government, I hope the bloodshed ends soon and your people will prosper.
Awesome
Keep making more of these, their great
This is the type of content that I subscribe to vice for! Keep it coming! Front line reporting, one of the last media outlets to actually risk it.
I take it back. This reporter has mad balls.
They need to develop a better game plan next time. I would like to see reports from the rebels as well.
These vids really deserve more views!
it must be scary as hell to fight like that with no cover.
Vice.... we need some footage from the rebel side.
Shit like this and what was happening in C.A.R. throughout December never ceases to make me feel incredibly guilty for how irresponsibly most members of rich, developed nations live. If there was any justice, it would be North Americans who live in constant unrest, violence, and fear.
Hey, we have to fight with democrats man, you are getting off easy.
I'm wit u dawg.
Michael Rigs needs to consider the role that North America plays in making other parts of the world terrible places to live...

***** So true, I agree.
Great work Vice. Have to day I enjoy frontline stuff a lot more than kids telling dirty jokes and food
That was utter chaos, i didn't see a single use of actual military strategy....
the reporters have steel balls to do this
They certainly fight like a clusterfuck.
These guys need to be taught how to take cover, organise their soldiers and how to best take-out the targets.
***** in any specific manor...?
***** I guess so that they can learn how fight their enemy effectively. I'm not someone that agree's with war, but it does seem stupid to just run away from gunfire instead of organising yourselves, taking cover, and identifying where the gunfire is coming from. FACT. Talk about stating the obvious.. yeah everybody can see that, but it's easier said than done

These are not soldiers.. they're civilians with no idea.
Why did they ruined the Land cruiser's beautiful interior?? @ 1:49
Seems to be alot of commander stupidity going on...
I wanna know what cameras and equipment they take with them
As always, excellent content VICE!!!
Amazing reporting!!! Ya'll need some awards, i love VICE!
Is it might me just me but, these guys seem more trained than Afghan Army and Free Syrian Army
I assume everyone want to play the sniper in that army LOL
Good video, btw, Vice.
i hate when the good ones like this be only 14mins long and the trashy ones be 20-30 mins long
The officers left their men behind? Pathetic!
Having been in Afghanistan reporting in boggles my mind how poor marksman ship seems to be the norm in non-euro countries. With the exception of Oman. This is why the French Foreign Legion mopped the floor with Africa against over whelming odds. Regardless, all this violence is sad and senseless .
