- They say that when something seems to be too good to be true, it usually is. This is a sub $700 wheelbase and steering wheel package with quick release, wireless communication, magnetic shifters, 9 buttons, 4 rotaries and 4 toggles switches. What's the catch? There is a catch, right?

It's really smart how you show the products in outdoor settings. It really shows the real look and finish of the product in natural light. Well done on this initiative.
Thanks so much! It’s important to me to do that because otherwise I need super complicated lighting and filming and editing. I’d rather just give the raw footage with real lighting and no nonsense :)
I really like this review! at last someone talks the truth about products in detail that is consumer friendly! we don't want RUclipsr's who tries any wheelbase for day or 2. As for Cammus, well I had terrible outcome with them but I'm not the only one. I really hope they get their QC in check.
It’s important to be as transparent as possible and my experience needed to be shared. I like the product when it works. In fact, if this was super reliable then it would be a massive force to be reckoned with
Excelent review...and your concerns about reliability, support and shipping costs, is something that ALL should think when buying any product from these recent companies, coming from similar origin! Like you said, a TRUE honest and complete review, can only be made in a long term use!
Thanks
I had my cammus wheelbase for 2 months and I love it. I had heard about the issues with heat transfer on the board and and bad soldering. Opened it up almost immediately to check the QC and did find 2 cold soldered wires, fixed those and have had no issues. The wheelbase is amazing they just need to clear up the quality control and set up a better resaler base
Glad to hear you’re enjoying it and have done some preventative maintenance. It would be amazing if they sort their quality issues out
@@LaurenceDusoswa I'm just glad there are honest reviews like yours and a few others so that I knew which potential issues to look for. The wheel has a ton of potential with just a little more attention to detail this becomes a top tier wheelbase
I agree with all your assessments and criticisms . I have had no issues yet with might. no heat issues of back covers and no fan issues. I plan on removing the back cover and adding some thermal pads on the chip and cooling block to ensure heat transfer. I have also bought the F1 wheel so I am anxious to test it out. I still think it is the best wheel option for the price at the moment.
I have that wheel sitting here too and the pedals. I need to unbox them and do my first impressions. I’m glad you’re is reliable. Most of them are I’m sure.
Thanks for sharing this amazing review, this video open eyes for me, i was about to order from them.
Glad I could help. It’s all part of the ‘job’
Working overtme with all the reviews great work.
Hahaha yeah Thomas. Many more left to do
Would love to see you revisit this Cammus 15nm. Just to see if the software driver s and firmware have matured fantastic reviews by the way, I'm kind of new to the channel. Really enjoying it
Thanks so much for the support. I might revisit. I still need to review the C5 also
I love my cammus base (and pedals). I've had it since beginning of this year without issue and love seeing all of these reviews start to roll out recently as there was no info online when I ordered mine. The RMA issues you have had though are a bit worrying...
Yep very worrying but we have to continue to support them and allow them to make it right. I hope that they succeed but buyers need to be aware
Great review. This one was kind of on my radar before I ultimately went Simucube. The thing that put me off the Cammus are the cheap looking "smartie" buttons on both the wheels and the wheelbase. They might be fine and perfectly functional (although your review alludes to potential issues there), but they just don't look like they'll last the course.
I hope they sort out the QC issues (and adopt a standard bolt pattern for mounting) as this wheelbase shows a lot of promise on the FFB side of things.
I hope they figure out the quality issues too because the ffb is on point
It's a product for people willing to put in a bit of effort to squeeze out the best possible value proposition. People who would rather throw money at a problem (which is perfectly understandable, time is money after all) are best served elsewhere, and the price positioning reflects this. The QR mount is standardized to fit generic NRG style QRs or can be used with a generic wheel directly. The power delivery for the wireless wheel button plate can be tapped into to power a 3d printed, DIY bluetooth button plate. The buttons and switches are generic parts that are readily available on AliE (in fact, I ordered them for my DIY button plate) so if they ever need replacing, it's relatively easy to DIY if you're comfortable with a soldering iron. Again, not the kind of thing that appeals to everyone, but it is currently the best value proposition for DIY and modder types on a budget.
Thanks for the great review Lawrence. On this base , FFB seems good eh but they really need a good reseller network to support this. Import tax for me would be around another 150 euros I believe and if you have to RMA who is paying the carrier fees?
For me the cons outweigh the pros on this one.
I was considering sizing up from my alpha mini to this for the price of just a wheel base, but after seeing this review, I'm not sure I want to get into another RMA situation after having to do one on my alpha mini and it's now acting up again after the warranty period
I'm still undecided about how I feel about this base as a whole 🤷🏻♂️ great review as usual👍🏻 I know that this one has taken a long time 🙄
Thanks for the comment dude! Yeah this review has taken an age
@@LaurenceDusoswa well you can't rush perfection😉
😅 hard dilemma there for getting one, but great review, love your honesty
Yeah if you’re lucky, it’s a GREAT device. If you’re unlucky… well… I don’t know what happens really… I was treated very well and can only assume others would be too but I can’t guarantee it
I bought mine in July but didn't get to mounting it until I had all the parts for my new rig in September, which included waiting for the Fanatec pattern mounting adapter so I wouldn't have to drill my new rig. Within 3 days the downshift paddle stopped working (parts on the way). I also have the knocking in the shaft that has not been fixed by tightening the 2 screws on the shaft collar. I'm still waiting on Cammus on a resolution. I want to like this product, the FFB is very good and I like having the buttons / switches on the base, but given my experience so far I may sell it (once fixed) and buy something else which would be too bad.
That’s very consistent with my experience unfortunately. I really want them to succeed but I would rather see a bigger price tag than this poor quality
Great review, I agree with everything you have said :)
My experience and advice below.
I bought through an Aussie supplier, my first wheel failed, paddle shift and a couple of buttons didn't work. I contacted my local supplier who contacted Cammus and they replaced straight away with a whole new unit. It has been fine. My advice would be to buy through a local supplier and avoid shipping etc. I got the pedals as well which I'm very happy with.
Just out of curiosity, what did they charge through the retailer? I spent $1300aud / $950usd last year to have it ship by boat from Cammus
Edit: I should note I got the whole kit including the load cell pedals
@@scottySK Hi Scott, I paid $1700 and Im glad as I got a faulty unit. I exchanged straight away. If I purchased off Cammus I might have been up for extra shipping fee's and down time as well?
@@glenc1973 yeah who knows what would happen if the unit was faulty, bit concerning hearing how many issues people have had
@@scottySK I sort of regret buying it.
@@glenc1973 that sucks mate, you could always try to sell it? I'm stoked with mine after getting rid of my CSL DD. But I've never tried a "top end" base like a dd2 or simucube, and I probably never will since they all cost more than my whole base, wheel and pedals combined
Good review but the background music with those beeps is very distracting. I thought I was getting Discord notifications!😅
Hahah noted :)
HYPEEEEE!!!!
First as usual ;)
Buttons on the base is a nice idea, but there seems nothing to fix a dashboard to this base and I really need one. For example Fanatec offers two M5-threaded holes and VRS/SC/SC2 M8 holes to fix a ready-made or DIY dashboard-display to it. I designed a holder you can fix to those bases and attach your old phone to it, which probably has a much higher resolution than any ready to use dashboard-display for 150+ bucks (even my ancient Galaxy S5 does 1080p in OLED).
It has space on top I guess but yeah, no exposed front bolts
I can't get over just how cheap the base and buttons look. Also with shipping and import to the UK you're getting very close to the price of a Simagic alpha with round wheel or a Moza R16 bundle. I know where I'd be spending my money
I’d love to hear a total price from some people who have ordered
This shows how subjective FFB is, because i've seen plenty of reviews saying this wheelbase lacks detail, but it's build quality concerns me, no mention of the dodgy heatsinks at the rear , all in all, i think i'd guide my money towards Moza.
Seems they fell a little short. Buttons on the wheelbase is a great idea btw
Yeah it’s a great product when it all works. I love the buttons on the base
QC aside (must be sorted out first) would this be a good option compared to similarly priced but lower powered entry level DDs?
If the reliability was as good as other brands, this would be the bargain of the century
@@LaurenceDusoswa fanatec have their own reliability issues especially the csl DD. tons of issues both hardware and software
The buttons on the base are genius. The colored buttons on the wheel rim make it look like an arcade game. The power issues with the button plate are unacceptable. Affordable or not, who wants to deal with a Chinese company that you can't easily communicate with about a product with these kind of reliability issues. My bet is Laurence isn't the only one having trouble with their Cammus products. Going to be a firm no from me. But I would be interested to see what Cammus does in the future as far as quality issue resolution and new products.
Yep. They deserve a chance to improve their quality because their product, when it works, is amazing
@@LaurenceDusoswa With the amount of offerings that don't have these issues and are better aesthetically and mechanically, if they don't improve they will be a distant memory before too long.
It might not be the best, but it shows how simracing is getting cheaper and cheaper.
Yeah and some people seem to have 0 issues in which case it’s a bit of a bargain for them
Great video! Please, could you share your Cammus settings (power, effects ratio, damper, friction, inertia and idle spring)??
Thx. Michael
I don't have my settings anymore unfortunately
@@LaurenceDusoswa Why not?...don't you use it anmore? I believe I've watched every single review on this WB by now and you're the only person so far who says it has good FFB. The general consensus seems to be that it lacks detail to the point where it doesn't even feel like a direct drive anymore. It has a lot of force but no feedback. To much damping, the roads feel flat, you don't feel what the car is doing and you have to react to visual impulse rather than to what the wheel is actually doing. Can you say a bit more on why you liked the FFB? I'm in the market for a Wheelbase now, but I just can't afford to pay $1000+ for a WB with somewhat decent power. I was looking at the Alpha mini too which is a bit more expensive but only offers 10nm. I'm a bit concerned that it might not be enough and that's why I spent so much time researching the Cammus.
The ffb isn’t as good as many others but it’s an exceptional ffb experience for your first DD for sure. But I don’t use it because I am always reviewing new hardware.
Given the choice.
Simagic Alpha 10 or Cammus 15nm? Which drives better
100% the Simagic alpha mini. The cammus has great extra buttons and a good price tag. But the alpha mini is too class
I think this is certainly a product that has potential, but maybe needed a few more months to get the QC on point. Consumers will always remember a bad launch, and that might influence the product in the longer run when it eventually gets good (AC Unity's launch is a perfect example of this)
I think this base does a lot of things right, but then also a few things wrong for me. These wrong things might be just subjective to my opinion, the look of the unit being the most important one.
Really not a fan of the size and styling. I also have doubts with the functionality of the buttons on the wheelbase during races (with how my rig is set up).
But nonetheless a really interesting product, something to shake up the market a bit. With all these new and more affordable DD wheelbases, the consumers are having the luxury and the problem of really choosing wisely.
The look and the buttons? Are you serious?
Does this need wheels from the same brand or can i use 3rd party wheels
You can use any USB wheel but if you wanna connect to the cammus wireless system you will need a cammus wheel
Great review, I think I’d be inclined to give this a miss…the price versus quality is not unusual when it comes to “direct form china” …
Yeah. If they increase their quality and sort out some resellers then they’ll do great business. But resellers want margins. And quality control costs money. So I’m not sure what the future holds for them to be honest
Can you use it on xbox too?
Nope. Not without a drivehub adapter or similr
can't be dealing with QC issues. no for me...
Yeah QC has to be done at all the stages of a build
it is too much to win a lottery with qa
yep :( It really made a decent product seem like a risky purchase
Case closed - I’ll be going higher end. Looks like another few months of saving for me…
Check out the moza offerings. They seem to be incredibly well priced. I haven’t tried any other than the r16. The Simagic alpha mini is still my go to first DD wheelbase though
LD got so unlucky lol, 3 faulty units
haha yep. very unlucky
@@LaurenceDusoswa Again, thank you. Im glad I trusted your intial feedback on the base and went with the purchase. My unit has been running pretty well, no deflect what so ever. And the FFB is great, along with the increased power compared to my old CSL DD, it was a good upgrade.
@@haid1449 my too
@@haid1449 Can you say a bit about your experience with the wheelbase, now that a year has passed?
@@mementomori4972 unluckily my unit fried itself after the recent update, which is the first time i decided to update too. The base would have run fine if I didnt. Now I need to send it back to Cammus to replace a new pcb. If you go with cammus, just dont update the firmware. The risk is not worth it.
