Looking at recent videos and photographs of the 12000TD it looks like the hover height/cushion depth has been reduced since this was shot.

Does anyone know why the side manoeuvring fans were removed at some point? I just noticed today they they were not on anymore! Thx :)

Tenacity was always my favourite in the 80's!! We saw Solent Flyer being tested whilst at Ryde in early August. The new design takes a bit of getting used to.

Great video Doug, glad you were able to get one of the new craft on sea trials and pilot familiarisation. Any idea when the first craft will enter service or perhaps both new craft will enter service at the same time.

Thank you, I'm glad you like the video. When I arrived in Ryde, Solent Flyer was nowhere to be seen, and at first I thought she may have gone back to Griffon Hoverwork, and I had wasted a trip! Then suddenly she appeared, and throughout the afternoon I was able to gather all that footage!
As far as I know Solent Flyer should be going into service in July. Her sister (Island Flyer) I believe is due to take to the water for the first time this month.
I should imagine some time in August perhaps, for going into service.

Thanks for the message Doug, I understand Solent Flyer is now based at Ryde. Is that right?

+dcoul1 : Thanks, will have to try and get over there to have a look. Will probably be the last time I get to travel on their Ap1-88's before they're taken off the Southsea to Ryde route.

docul1 I am looking at a hovercraft ferry service for Guyana, a former colony of Britain. that south American country of 83,000 sq. miles, has three long rivers with lots of opportunities for investment. they export US $ 3 Billion per year in gold alone. a lot is smuggled out. There's diamond, timber, the hardest known wood in the world, Vast deposits of oil found and to be extracted by EXXON, Sugar, pineapples and a vast amount of vegetables. Bottom line here is there is tremendous amount of commuting and Hover travel is an overwhelming opportunity. Contact me at psattaur@caribsurf with info such as specs and costs. Marketing opportunities will include demonstrations, training packages and governmental presentations. I'm very serious.
