The Reformatory is based on a real story in Florida. Dosier School for Boys. Also Clolson Whitehead The Nickel Boys. There is also a documentary about the real story. Reformatory may be my best book of the year!
Gagged at seeing myself in one of your videos, sorry you didn’t love the book but I’m glad to hear your thoughts🥹 Also WHO recommended you Thursday Murder Club? Have they not watched any of your content to know you’ve read & loved that series? It’s one of the books I most associate wit you & your channel Lmao
The Reformatory was my first Tananarive Due as well and I loved it! I just read The Between (which is one of her shorter books) and it was a different experience. Still good, but felt dated in some ways (was published in 1995).
9:29 might genuinely have to try this😂 I also started reading that book last year because sooo many people were loving it and then dnf'd it because it just wasn't gripping me as much as it seemed to everyone else. But the continued hype for this one is insane and has had me reconsidering for a while now.
Husbands by Holly Gramzio When Lauren returns home to her flat in London late one night, she is greeted at the door by her husband, Michael. There’s only one problem-she’s not married. She’s never seen this man before in her life. But according to her friends, her much-improved decor, and the photos on her phone, they’ve been together for years. As Lauren tries to puzzle out how she could be married to someone she can’t remember meeting, Michael goes to the attic to change a lightbulb and abruptly disappears. In his place, a new man emerges, and a new, slightly altered life re-forms around her. Realizing that her attic is creating an infinite supply of husbands, Lauren confronts the question: If swapping lives is as easy as changing a lightbulb, how do you know you’ve taken the right path? When do you stop trying to do better and start actually living?
I who have never known men is one the best books I've ever read and I had a feeling it was not the book for Meg, it was not her style. That's all right.
Whoa. The Reformatory, good to know! I do own it. Really enjoyed this, Meg, thank you! Your honesty is very much appreciated, never relinquish it, please.I like the review of the last book consisting completely of sounds. 😅 and you have a good singing voice.
can everyone please go read Chain Gang All-Stars before I lose my mind, maybe I didn't watch enough youtube when it came out in the first half of last year but it seems like nobody ever mentions it 😭I think you'd love it meg!!
Sad you didn’t love Will of the Many but I get it! I was surprised I loved it so much since it’s not my usual. I think I just loved how well crafted it was and the second half had me hooked.
I completely agree with Will of the Many in that I don't understand the hype at all, but i fully disagree with all the reasons you gave😅 It's a fine book, but what am I missing that everyone's in love with about it lol
Your view of Will of the Many was SO cathartic for me, and I feel VINDICATED. I read so much fantasy, and love books in the same style as WotM, but thought it was truly awful. So tropey, overdone, and that bloody mc could NEVER do wrong.
Ok but can I just analyse the data a tiny bit - you are asking your subscribers for their fav book, they are likely to read books you recommend highly (your 5 stars) so it does kind of make sense that the books you’ve read that have been suggested are your fav because people have properly read them because they were your fav and now it is their fav…it’s a favourites circle 😂😂
I’m only 5 1/2 min in so I don’t know how you’ll react but ugh to We Used to Live Here. Possibly one of my worst books of the year. I hated it. I would suggest the Nicole Rayburn series by Irina Shapiro. Super cozy, great audio
I think you cracked the code with The Will of the Many - if you aren't a fan of The Hubger Games, you probably won't get the hype. I'm the same - HG was OK for me and I am not so impressed by TWotM either...😅
I love Hunger Games, hated Will of the Many. I love books in the style of Will of the Many, I just thought it was awfully written 😂 My theory is that most people who loved it don't read a lot of fantasy - so many of the positive reviews include the reviewer saying it was their first fantasy book, or that they hardly ever read them. They don't know how good fantasy can be, and how tropey this book is because they haven't experienced the good stuff before.
@@reubenalbatrossI’m 10000% with you on this. Even my more fantasy lover booktubers liked it and I really thought I was losing my mind. It was mediocre at best
As im fairly new to your channel and havent seen your video from last year, I've never evwn heard of the Will of the Many. Is it a popular book in Britian? Heard of the other 3 before so i was shocked it was the most mentioned book. Very happy you loved the Reformatory its on my TBR
In total agreement with you about The Will of the Many! I really didn't like the protagonist, and thought any tension in the plot was lost because he was simply The Best at everything. There was also little to no magic at the supposedly magic school 🤦♀ The Reformatory has been on my list, though! Excited to get to it now!
Your cat is gorgeous! I have two babies, Smokey and Dolly! Nothing better than cats and books! 😍😍😼😼 I HATED we used to live here! The plot sounded so good, but it was just boring and weird!

If you do a 2025 annual challenge I think you should try different genres each month to see if you have a new favourite genre
The Reformatory is based on a real story in Florida. Dosier School for Boys. Also Clolson Whitehead The Nickel Boys. There is also a documentary about the real story. Reformatory may be my best book of the year!
The way you like mixed media and anxiety representation, I think you might like Letter to the Luminous Deep. One of my favs this year!
Ahhhh I’m so glad you loved The Reformatory!! Nothing can top it this year.
I feel the same - I read it in June and I’m still thinking about it.
The selection of books for this video is top notch! So excited to watch!!
38:10 the burst into song i'm crying

She asked for people’s best books of the year. So they weren’t recommending it but stating it was one of their favs
I WHO HAVE NEVER KNOWN MEN OH MY GOD
OMG, I never see your hair in a high ponytail. It is such a cute look on you!
The reformatory is one of my top reads of the year! Love it so much! 😍
Yay! I'm so glad you loved the reformatory :)
GIRL! The awkward grocery store encounter with ‘The Will of the Many’ took me out 😂😂😂🤣
Soooo glad you loved the Reformatory!! (my taste is great 🤌💁♀️)
I did also love We Used to Live Here though 🥺
meg just growling at the camera to get her point across is sending me 🤣❤

Yeah if I don't enjoy a book, I DNF even if everybody else loved it! 😂😂

I think you will enjoy Sword of Kaigen but Blood Over Bright Haven by the same author is even more for you

I’ve just borrowed this from my library and your comment has made me excited to start reading it!

I loved we used to live here 🥹
I’ll say it until i *pass away* Bad Men by Julie Mar Cohen has massive 5 star energy for you. It’s such an underrated, unknown gem!!
I who have never known men and will of the many are easily two of my best books of the year! Only crying a little LMAO
You have just sold me on The Will Of The Many by mentionning Hunger Games 😂
Ooo I am eaaaarly 🎉
I NEED to know what you think of We Solve Murders! 😬😬
gonna check all of them out
me too lol
You're so funny, love your reading vlogs 💖 i definitely need to pick up the reformatory now!! Hope you're feeling better 🫶❤️🩹
my favourite book this year is Enter ghost by Isabella Hammad
Your view of Will of the Many was SO cathartic for me, and I feel VINDICATED.
I read so much fantasy, and love books in the same style as WotM, but thought it was truly awful. So tropey, overdone, and that bloody mc could NEVER do wrong.
Felt the same way about the Red Rising series. 😅
Maybe the first book has to be at least 4 stars for you to continue with the series?
Ok but can I just analyse the data a tiny bit - you are asking your subscribers for their fav book, they are likely to read books you recommend highly (your 5 stars) so it does kind of make sense that the books you’ve read that have been suggested are your fav because people have properly read them because they were your fav and now it is their fav…it’s a favourites circle 😂😂

i'm currently in the middle of will of the many and i also don't get it lol

I’ve heard that book isn’t very good but it seems very popular
I expected it to be better. There was a lot of loose ends.
The will of the many was lit!🎉 Shame you didn't like it. I'm so glad you found a 5⭐️ though 🫶.
