They then decided to become a band and would take to the streets of Brighton and also created masterpieces of their own. They played numerous gigs including a sold out tour of the U.K. and also released a 6 track EP called “Can Do Will Do”. They busked together for the last time on 14th December 2022 and played their final gig at the Brighton Dome a short while later. This was filmed in December not long after Money Game 3, as Ren was in the UK at the time. The bar is Valentino's in Brighton and the 2 lovely lasses are also from Brighton and have their own youtube channels Sylvia Mwenzes and Scarlett Fae, video by Samuel Perry Falvey and Josh Stiles
I like everything Ren does, Jazz, Blues, Rap, Reggae, Ska, Rock, Ballads, storytelling. Back on 74 is the 90’s vibe. Ren loves music so he uses whatever he’s feeling.
When he makes music from so many genres there is bound to be someone who gets disappointed occasionally (not me), but flop? No flop, NEVER a flop in anything he has done❤
His band is "The Big Push'. You should definitely check out their busking session on the streets of Brighton, "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop". (The one with Ren in red suspenders.). It's brilliant!! Loved your reaction!
It was newly created by Jungle, but this is straight up 70's pop-soul to a tee...💯🔥💞🍻 Message in a bottle was released late 1979 by The Police. Lead singer Sting is an obvious insperation to Ren.
Great reaction! With Ren, expect the unexpected. Ren is so versatile and loves all music genres, not everyone will love everything he does. A lot of people have said the scene reminds them of a jazz club.
I agree. A lot of ppl like to box artists in, but whn they have versatility like Ren they still complain. I’ll never understand that, and it was definitely giving me Jazz vibes for sure
Try The Big Push I Shot The Sheriff/ Road to Zion/ Hip Hop The Big Push What Kind of Woman Is This, The Big Push Praise You Sam Tompkins and Ren Earned It/ Mans World/ Falling
Quin, I hope you know who Motowns great Smokey Robinson was/is. That's Retro Ren. That's Valentino's Bar in Brighton Beach UK. An Art Deco themed club. Back on 74 is a tune by Jungle, more of an EDM beat. Ren heard the beat they were using is from Message in a Bottle by the Police, so he remixed it as he does.
Red Clubs were the thing back in the 1970s. Sit there drink your drink and listen to the music. Lots of soul back in those days. Not the rap or pop crap you get today. And the Artists could all sing back then. They had vocal skills!
The Police first hit the scene in the mid to late 70s and Message in a Bottle is a big hit by them. Sting, the lead singer is a hero of Rens. Back on 74 is by a contemporary artist named Jungle and was released in 2023 and was a massive hit for them. It is more of a dance track than Ren's groovy version though still extremely groovy. The official Jungle video of Back in 74 is a one shot dance video and it is unbelievable. You have to check that out.
I would expect that's one of Brighton's more expensive bars, it's beautifully decorated. Back to 74 is a song by Jungle, their take is a good bit faster, and one of the songwriters said it's about a mythical place, like a 74th Street somewhere you knew as a kid. Ren's verses make it about the year, 1974 was a very good year indeed for me but those aren't stories for random Renegades.
Yes, he was in a band The Big Push, but to specify mention that “vibe type feeling” I would suggest checking out their “Wade in the Water/Nina Simone” cover first. Followed by “I Shot the Sherrif/Road to Zion/Hip-Hop” then maybe “Bongo Bong”
Ren flops? I can honestly say I have never heard anyone say that or write that and I have watched 100's of reaction videos over the last yr. I heard a few times he is overrated or they just don't like him for what ever reason, but never heard he flopped an attempt at doing something new. Ren has perfected his "trying something new" before he ever releases a video. That is their opinion but most just seem jealous to me.
I feel you on the sax thing. It's like well Ren, you got us here hangin' with you in the swanky lounge set, all that was needed is smoke in the rooms some mixed drinks, and some nasty sensual sax.
Not sure if there was a meaning in Message in a Bottle but Sting is an inspiration of his. He does like to mash up different songs. I love this and loved your reaction!
epic reaction - just for reference , 1974 is a song by jungle (he shout out in the song), he then added his own rap and then finished with the police message in a bottle - also the basic bass tones of message in a bottle throughout
Message: 50 years (1974-2024) have flowed by and society has shifted from freedom to control. The SOS to the world is a call to rally as evil wins when good men do nothing. TY for your review.
I think you can detect the Message In A Bottle riff Ren plays at about 1:45 into the mash-up before they revert back to Back on 74 - a bit of musical candy pointing out that by slowing down both songs their melodies converge beautifully. Dude is a musical savant.
Check out Rens former band The Big Push two of my favorites are Bongo Bong (cover) and English Man In New York (cover) I think they are Rens best vocals so far. Only one other song his vocals were beautiful was Oh My Woman.
2 bangers rhat he loves jouned by sone naughty bars. He even worked the Message mysuc into the Backin 74 song. And he loves Sting and the Police. The Big Push did a great rendition of Englushman in New York, another Sting song. Another good Big Push song is What Kind Of Woman is this, which covers Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix and Muddy Waters.
I'm surprised that you're so surprised that Ren can sing! Ren has incredible vocals, capable of multiple voices, styles and tones! I'm guessing that it's early days in your Ren journey, if you're surprised that Ren can sing. You haven't heard anything yet! Enjoy the ride! :)
I like this breakdown. Yeah, The Big Push is his band which is taking a little hiatus from one another, but check out their most recent post, heart attack which I think they in the fall and that’s the last all day played on the streets together.
If you haven’t done them yet; please do Chaulk Outlines, How to be me, Blind eye. All by Ren they have guest on the songs, 2 have Sam on it the other has Chinchilla on it
Yeah, a sax would have fit in, along with some strings and horns and.. .. .. Most definitely. I love listening to the sax and I was hoping to hear it in this song, but it was still amazing tho
The funny thing is…I bet he has a mate who’s super talented on the Sax 😂
@Musiklife.9049 lol true story 😂. I got a strong feeling that we gone get some sax reallllll soon. I’m calling it now lol
The song "Back on 74 by Jungle" (a British electronic music project) song was released in 2023..is a little bit faster than in Ren's retake.
