    A couple of things:
    1. The last book was quite a shock, as I have rarely heard anyone talk about it. But it is permentely etched into my memory.
    2. How much of this video I understood without subtitles (I speak a Scandinavian language)
    3. I am glad Johan didn't say LOTR as his first answer because we want to hear more unique answers (presumably)
    4. I haven't checked but were any of the authors from the Faroes?

I was just telling a lady today about how many cool "hidden details" there are in the Old Testament, and how neat things like that make it exciting to read! My other favorite books include all of The Bellmaker by Brian Jacques, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, and The Martian by Andy Weir.

    No offense intended, but Faroese sounds a bit like a heavily drunk Bergensare (A person from Bergen in Norway). It was very interesting, I can't claim that I understood everything without the subtitles, but with my Swedish/Danish background and as a resident in Norway, I was able to pick out certain words.

    Fun glimpse into the culture of the Faroe Islands! Quite a wide array of replies. My hunch (and my fear) is that if you did this at an American outdoor summer festival, the most prominent answer would be: "I don't really read," or something to that effect. I also bet you'd get more Harry Potter here than the Bible. For myself, no hesitation or deep thought would be required to answer The Lord of the Rings (which Tolkien considered one story, in spite of being published as a trilogy).

    We vikings dont read the bible,.
    We read Snorre and dream about the good times, before christianity ruined our culture.

    • @6ixpoint5ive
      @6ixpoint5ive 2 года назад +1

      you do know Snorri was Christian right?
      He wrote the eddas a few hundred years after Iceland was already a Christian country, to pass down the stories as a mythology (similar to passing down Greek Myths) He had no interest in the religious qualities of the norse myths, he just wanted to ensure the stories got passed down for generations the same way the greco/roman ones did. The fact that the eddas are still being read and taught today, that many old names are still given to nordic children, and many older traditions are still a big part of nordic culture, I think he succeeded.
      One can both have appreciation and respect for their culture's history and lore AND be Christian. You don't have to pit them against each other, mate. One look at this video is enough to show coexistence between the two is allowed and accepted

      @@6ixpoint5ive Excellent comment! I fit that description perfectly, as a Christian and as a Scandinavian American (actual last name ends in "son") who appreciates my ancient Nordic heritage as well (even my children have Nordic names).
