It's meant to be a "Bad Mo Fo" match. It's meant to be Brutal and Bloody MM. That is the point of it. Yeah he did control the fight and at times he did do stand up. But he grappled way more. Because of this, he let people down. The point of a Bad Mo Fo match is to do stand up and to get bloodied. Max did his best to deliver, Charles ruined it. Imo he should have that title stripped. And it's not like Charles didn't know what was expected beforehand either. Just be honest and call it for how it was, a terrible fight.
Bro that fight opened my eyes. I am a huge Charles fan and obviously I knew he was an incredible grappler but his wrestling and control has never been the best part of his game. But seeing him do that to Gamrot made me realize how good Charles actually is and how much his strategy and wrestling has improved over the years. Gamrot was out scrambling Arman not too long ago, he’s genuinely one of the best pure wrestlers in the UFC, had never been subbed in his WHOLE CAREER. Still Charles ran through him in two rounds. When this fight was coming up I was thinking if Charles can get ahold of Max then he’ll win, by control or sub it won’t matter; cause no way is Holloway a better defensive grappler than Gamrot lol.
Khabib in the center of the cage was horrible, so similar to Charles he would’ve had to get him to the cage. I’d say he could’ve done it but it wouldn’t have been as dominant as this for sure. Definitely showed there was levels though.
Arman is more robust, has more cardio. Charles is very technical, but if you're like Arman or Islam you can defend against his BJJ. Charles doesn't have the power needed to overwelm these Dagestani champs I agree with u tho, Id love to see them throw hands and grapple at the White House Waaaay better than Ruffy x Chandler imo

Im sure his own fans didn't think he was gonna take max down and hold him on the ground all 5 rounds for the BMF...yes if this was a regular 3 rounder or for the light weight title then people wouldn't be so upset with the fight. Loved the first 2 rounds where Charles hunted for the sub, but then he just did a lot of stalling, didn't pound like he should've, when he had mount. He had mount for like 10 minutes, Max's face should've been cut up.

Charles always has a little standup blitz by the means of which he tries to overwhelm an opponent meanwhile getting into the range for grappling, he did it in every round with Max today. only with Ilia he got immediately cut trying to get in range in that blitz, got reversed, put into crucifix, then failed a leglock and got his invitation to keep it on the ground rejected. then ref got them up and he coudln't get in range to shoot anymore (even tho he tried immediately) because Ilia developed an allergic reaction to clinching and didnt let him. then he got kod withing the next like 10 seconds. trust, read this and rewatch. maybe if Charles had Khamzat style double leg he could shoot from afar, but he only does it from basically clinching range, so, yeah. he tried to grapple, just couldn't. same shit happened with Merab recently

If anyone asks why he didn't do the same with Ilia, it's because shorter fighters have a lower center of gravity, meaning they're harder to take down. That's why he did it so easily with Max, and Ilia reversed the position.
Even before Gamrot, Charles utilized his grappling numerous times whenever he felt he had the advantage there. He does have the most submissions in UFC history. Examples of Charles utilizing his grappling for most of the fight are vs: Ferguson, Lee and Gaethje to name a few.
I disagree, Gathje is a more than passable wrestler and grappler. He actually came up as a wrestler he just chooses to strike. If we’re comparing Gaethje to Holloway in terms of take down defense, grappling and wrestling - I’m picking Gaethje all day to be better in that regard.

Charles always has a little standup blitz by the means of which he tries to overwhelm an opponent meanwhile getting into the range for grappling, he did it in every round with Max today. only with Ilia he got immediately cut trying to get in range in that blitz, got reversed, put into crucifix, then failed a leglock and got his invitation to keep it on the ground rejected. then ref got them up and he coudln't get in range to shoot anymore (even tho he tried immediately) because Ilia developed an allergic reaction to clinching and didnt let him. then he got kod withing the next like 10 seconds.

If anyone asks why he didn't do the same with Ilia, it's because shorter fighters have a lower center of gravity, meaning they're harder to take down. That's why he did it so easily with Max, and Ilia reversed the position.

Even before Gamrot, Charles utilized his grappling numerous times whenever he felt he had the advantage there. He does have the most submissions in UFC history. Examples of Charles utilizing his grappling for most of the fight are vs: Ferguson, Lee and Gaethje to name a few.

I disagree, Gathje is a more than passable wrestler and grappler. He actually came up as a wrestler he just chooses to strike. If we’re comparing Gaethje to Holloway in terms of take down defense, grappling and wrestling - I’m picking Gaethje all day to be better in that regard.

Like for example no one in the top five should have that belt, should be top 15-6 rank, who ever wins the BMF either gets a contender fight next or even a championship fight. Let’s say they lose their contender fight or champion fight, the belt gets placed back into the ranking for another set of guys to fight for. Seems like a good way to keep division moving, avoiding stagnation while also allowing some of these lower rank guys that are killers to actually get the chance they deserve and eyes on their fight that they deserve.
