Hey guys, here’s your weekly painting tip from Don, lol 😝!
When painting wheels with tires mounted instead of trying to tape off the tires go to the dollar store and get a tub of Vaseline and rub the sidewalk done with a light coat of Vaseline then paint as usual. When your done and paint is dry, install wheels and when your ready to wash the Jeep just use a bucket of hot soapy water and thevaseline wipes right off and the bonus is that it also acts as a tire shine.
This was brought to you by an automotive painter with 40 years experience and the info is free if you’ll use it, lol.
As always guys, you two are doing fantastic and I’m proud of both of you!!!!! Keep it up your doing great work
I think the black wheels definitely look great on there, again GREAT JOB painting boys👍🏻👍🏻
Pro tip for the TJs: there's a hole on each side of the frame behind the rear tires right above the rear control arm mounts. It can be seen at 5:41 I highly recommend pointing the jeep nose down at an angle and spraying some water inside that hole, and you'd be suprised how much dirty water comes out of the drain holes towards the front of the frame. You can drill a hole underneath the area, or just keep doing the aforementioned tip. Both work, but I would do this to keep the frame from rotting from the inside out near your rear control arm mounts.
What I love about the both of you, is the way you handle these cars. teamwork with a triple A. I wish I had some brotherhood with my twinbrother. I watch every episode of your new builds. If theire is someone who I trust with detailing my car, your name is in top of the list. Your tires look as brand new. sparkling the way it should be done. As you no by now I am a hudge fan. Forgive me when some words ar not as spelled a it should be, I am just a simple guy from the Netherlands who had a stroke in 2014. I am lucky for how I can manage my writing right now. I wish I could help you sponsor your channel. I am invalid and in a wheelchair. Missing one foot and have a rare nervedamage. I live from wellfair?? I realy hope oneday I can order one of your shirts. They are awsem. Greetings and keep up the good work. Wishing you guys all the best, and I love your pets by he way. regards Bert de Vries. Good tip on painting rims is you can use playing cards from the dollar store bought $1. They fit perfect in between rim and tire. Also if you put vaseline around the tire, it'll prevent overspray from sticking to it as well. Just a tip! Love the videos guys
when painting rims, something that saves time and works well is using index cards to put around the rim, and larger ones prevent a lot of overspray on the tires
5:55 Hi mom!
Fellas, I have to say seeing the Jeep all cleaned up with the painted black rims it looks AMAZING!! That green color is gorgeous!!
Hey guys, I have been watching for awhile and finally decide to comment. Your videos are great, straight to the point and you have a lot of content in one video and none of them are boring. You always do some much stuff and it’s all cool off road mods or what not. Huge thumbs up from me and you guys inspire me as well. Keep it up!!!
You can use note cards around the rims makes it much easier.
You guys should clean up tough stains on the plastics with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Those things work amazing with tough spots.
VanisleNSX That’s Good info! Will use it in the future, thanks.
2:22 put card stock between the rim and the tire
Hey, I saw he was kinda struggling to tape off the tire to prep for painting the rims. Get a few decks of cards from the dollar store and that works really well, they slide right between the rim and tire. And it’s quick.
J Gott thanks great advice
Quick tip for painting rims, if it’s possible, slip index cards between the tire and rims, saves a lot of time!
Found your channel a month or two ago and let me tell ya great content. Love all the jeeps, love watching you guys take them from wrecked or nasty and turn them into a diamond.
Really love that color. Those black wheels look awesome!
Little tip for painting the wheels. Use a deck of cards to mask them off. Push the cards into the bead and mask off of that. 👍
Use playing-cards to paint wheels. Insert them in the bead all the way around.Super easy. No tape needed!
I have those clear front turn signals on my TJ, take the orange bulb out and put a led amber one in. It takes away that weird reflective amber look coming from the inside and they're brighter.
You guys do great work. Love the videos!
I gotta say, you two are some real Go Getters!!! You're going to have a brand new remodifed jeep when you're finished. GREAT JOB Guyz!!!👍👍👍
Rubicon.. Stock Color.. cleaned up like y'all do... Looking nice!
When spreadin spraying wheels you can wedgea deck of cards in between the rim and tire. It makes prep a lot easier
I prefer the look of the stock silver rims. really compliments the clean semi-stock look
Old school trick to quickly mask wheels is to use playing cards. Insert them tightly between the tire and wheel and then lay some masking tape on the cards. Saves lots of time and comes out way cleaner.
Please get more jack stands, don't mess up a good thing. You guys are killing it. Nice work!
Great video guys! I sold my YJ two yrs ago and now I have Jeep fever again!
John Bates Haha get another one
I think a front aussie locker in that jeep in that jeep would be a good cheap mod, and fun to watch.
I've heard using playing cards will work as a sub for tape around your rims.
I swear if i own a car and needed some upgrades and love. I’ll drive to you guys! i trust you, plus it is a pure business. Great job Goonzquad!
you guys deserve nothing but success. easily the best car channel on youtube. you dont drag out videos for content you get stuff done. try a bmw pls
Hey guys have you ever heard of using a deck of cards around the rims look it up way faster then taping up the tires
Tee Con Yea that would’ve helped a lot
Fantastic job guyz! Jeep looking hot!
Paint the roll bar yellow, looks really good with that green when the top is off
Wick tip for you guys as I know you like them, instead of using masking tape for the rims use a deck of cards works an absolute treat your welcome 🤩
Great work guys! rims look nice.
just a tip, you can use news paper ( 2 layers) and an exacto knife , cut out the center and use pin stripe tape to mask the wheels , a little faster than wide taping the wheels.
use index cards around the rim for painting wheels. just lay them between rim and tire and they stay put and takes just minutes..
For painting rims I use playing cards as masking for the rubber. Fast, easy, cheap and reusable.
You can fix scratches and fading on most of the interior parts, with a heat gun. Carefully heat it up, with the gun, until it just starts to melt and then back off. It makes it look like brand new. There is an art to it. So, try it out on some trash console, first, to get the hang of it.
Goonzquad, give you an idea on painting the rims or mag wheels even when the tires are installed, no need to put tape, just apply grease or oil with paint brush on the sidewall then spray your paint, believe me it works great, less time and effort.
From junkyard to gem! That's what I like to see!
When painting rims try using some playing cards, and they can be re-used. Black Rubicon rims would look good. Great vids & channel.
Next time you paint wheels use some index cards. They fit right behind the tires and you can paint the edge really well.
When painting rims it is easiest just to use index cards to stick around the tires Instead of tape
You should’ve painted the wheels brown to match the Sahara color scheme make it look more true stock Sahara. Also have you thought about sanding and hitting the hard top with a new coat of khaki brown? Have you thought about finding the Sahara door pockets? Just some thought for you guys. Keep up the great work! Love all the builds I’ve seen. Looking forward to whatever you pickup next!
I’ve used index cards between the rim and tire with a slight overlap. Easier than tape.
Next time when you paint the wheels you can use q-cards around the tires.
Use the Rubicon wheels
With a lift kit the larger tires will look better. Saying that I like the look of the black rims. I'm looking forward to seeing the lift kit install.
when painting wheels with the tires on. brush them with vegetable shortening and wash them off when you can! quick and environment safe
Give y'all a tip playing cards put between the tire and rim then tape them to tire. Best part reusable.
Man I look forward to these videos everyday gunna have to cop some merch soon
I am always excited to see y’alls video in my scroll Feed!!
DAMN no etching primer first!
Little tip for you. When painting wheels with tires on them, brush dish soap on the tires then paint the wheels. Wait till the paint dries and rinse off the soap. Makes it easier and faster to paint.
You can also use purple power on tough stains but make sure you duluted down
Chirsfix RUclips wheel paint will help! You guys are doing great!
Hi guys great work hooked on your channel a small tip i learnd when painting wheels with the tiers on them spreat a shirt “Xxl “over the whole tier and pinch in beteen the rim and the tier then cut aroind the rim would be better with a litle air inside the tier then just paint i tried it on my bike works great
I hear that using index cards between tires and rims is a way to save time in paint prep.
Looks good with either way. I think the rubicon wheels make it stand out, but the steel wheels are more suited for off road. Truthfully, I would sell it just like it is!
Ive seen guys use bissiness cards
to cover tire at the rim edge. Works
Pretty good.
quick tip - use index cards to tape off the wheels. much faster.
You should put some plastic or vinyl trim restorer on the hardtop to bring back the black color.
Blacked out Rubicon would look sweet with the 2 inch lift the Sahara rim may look too small with the lift...great work you goonz
Stick some playing cards between the tire and the wheel to paint the wheel.
Great videos! Got one suggestion. How about putting the Rubicon tires on the black rims?
Keep these Rubicon wheels on it, it looks awesome.
do a Q&A, keep that channel growing boys
You guys do awesome work. I say go with the rubicon wheels
Rubicon wheels with black rims will be dope.
I noticed this was about when you started keeping the music transitions smooth. Earlier the music would just drop out completely. Very nice. :)
rubi wheels for sure though looks so good especially if you paint them
The rubicon wheels painted black would look sweet I think
can't wait for the lift kit video!!
I know right! Gonna look slick!
Man, hard to believe this was once sitting in a junkyard
Travis Snell True it has come a long way
Put the Rubicon wheels on the theft recovery jeep and paint them gloss black
Atlee Wise someone had to say it.
Gentleman what you need to do is take your power washer and clean your paint booth out every time you use it use the power washer on the inside walls everything okie dokie Keith from Oklahoma. 😁 Oh keep up the good work.
Newer wheels FOR SURE!
When painting them wheels use some index cards makes it much easier than using tape
Nvm seen somebody else already commented that lol
I think the 5 spoke Rubicon rims with those beefier tyres will fit nicer with the lift kit, maybe spray pain them black?
Paint the rubicon wheels black and put them on.
tm3leach you read my mind
tm3leach Great idea!!! What about gunmetal?
Black
goonzquad gunmetal would look awesome
I agree gunmetal would look sweet
Use the Rubicon, trust me.. classic
Yuhan Worrell we will haha
Wow it turned out great!
You guys need to make a video that shows specifically how you paint your Jeeps, I can't find any other videos of vehicle painting that aren't vague
Index cards work best for painting rims with the tire on.
If you paint wheels, try using index cards, long ways to avoid the overspray
I didn't think I'd like the factory wheels better, but they look great. I'd put the rubicon wheels on.
Looks good. Why didn't you buy a 5th rim before you painted the other 4? I guess black is easy to mix and match. Plasti dip would have looked sick on those rims too. Hey, that interior cleaner stuff you used did the trick. Looks real good. Nice work as usual, keep it up.
I just subbed. I'm hooked on these videos. It's inspiring me to start up a project. Thanks and keep up the great work.
I remember seeing somebody on another RUclips channel using a deck of cards to go around the tires before they painted them
I love your chanel, your actitud, and the way you restore the jeeps.
Keepit up bros.
Good trick while you're painting your rims by putting Vaseline on the tires the paint will not stick
I agree black out the rubicon wheels and use them.
Dang! this thing is coming together nice!
A deck of cards works good for painting wheels too
Still here, just wrapped up what I'm doing just to follow till the end of this jeeps' fulllll restoration is over!! going to the next...
If you're gonna paint the wheels black, maybe paint the top black to keep the theme going? Idk, just a suggestion!
After this build gets finished (which will never happen since its a jeep), do you think you'll get another jeep to build? Its awesome seeing beat up jeeps get turned into gems, and gives some inspiration for things to do on my own jeep.
The rubicon wheels 👌
